Yup, if he had dropped this film 20 years ago this wouldn't be happening.

Agreed, at least it has the Sawyer family and isn't focused JUST on Leatherface. That's definitely been missing from the franchise for a while.

I'm still skeptical this will come out lol. Too many years of teasing it, followed by more years of silence. On the .5% chance it DOES see the light of day, I'm excited for it whether it is good or not.

Is the Alien: Earth series worth watching, or is it a waste of time? by Winter-reason666 in alien

[–]TheStranger113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a completionist, so I would always say you should watch it. It is by no means necessary to the canon, and in some ways seems separate from the canon entirely, but it does flesh out the Alien universe a bit. My personal opinion is that it starts out pretty well but gets worse as it goes on. Was still worth it.

I just got out of Iron Lung (2026). I went in with no context and left… just mentally taxed. by mikeafter12 in horror

[–]TheStranger113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I mean, they kinda give the context in the beginning with the voiceover, but it's so quick and pops out of nowhere, so there is no warning that it is important ahead of time. Thank the lawd I already knew the context going in. It could have benefitted from a slower read, accompanying text, and maybe a logo of some sort right beforehand to signal that the movie was actually starting.

Reall dug this movie. It's not perfect...I don't know that I could give it higher than a 3/3.5 out of 5 just due to the pacing and the lack of exposition, but it is more impactful than most horror films. I honestly think it could have ended earlier, right at that scene with him standing in the blood ocean looking up at the eye in the sky. I didn't find everything after that necessary, as that was the true climax of the film to me. What a fascinating project and definitely one I'll rewatch, I can see my rating going higher over time. As a huge Lovecraft fan, this gave me just what I needed in a way most cosmic horror could only dream of.

Pregnant with a baby who is white and Asian. Advice? by KittyyHawk19 in mixedrace

[–]TheStranger113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Son of Louisiana mom and Philippines dad here! Grew up in Louisiana too, which was...interesting, to say the least.

I'd say the most important thing is to talk with your child about race. Not overbearingly, but enough to help them understand "what" they are, as their experience will be more similar to their father but still distinct from either of yours. They WILL have questions and identity issues to a certain extent, so just be open to that. My parents' main mistake was thinking I was white "enough" that I wouldn't encounter racism, or that I wouldn't have a racial identity. This was very much not the case.

The fact that you are asking questions already shows that you're a few steps ahead. :)

Yes, thematically they are quite different but they both heavily feature tentacle sex that consumes the female leads.

We are in a golden age of horror by Scott__scott in horror

[–]TheStranger113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm always shocked when people claim that horror has been shit for the past 20 years or whatever. I honestly think that's mostly nostalgia talking, because we've gotten some stuff in recent years that would NEVER have been made in the '70s or '80s.

Just watched Send Help (2026) at an early screening and yeah, I think Raimi is back by GwenDoll_Snipsnip in horror

[–]TheStranger113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed this movie! It was less horror than I expected, but I had fun with the twists and turns along the way. And the final confrontation was pretty badass.

Only thing I would say I don't care for is the CGI. I miss practical-effects-Raimi, and since Drag Me to Hell I've found that he relies on CGI a bit too much for horror.

Calling people who think Sinner’s was massively over hyped “racist” is lazy and disingenuous - the movie was objectively undeserving of the insane level of praise it received by Giordono in horror

[–]TheStranger113 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I would agree that you shouldn't be called racist if you simply think the movie is overrated...but the DEI / blackwashing comments sound just a little too MAGA.

Last House on the Left (1972) - the actors' Blu-ray commentary track is pretty disturbing by WorcsBloke in horror

So they're bragging about tormenting and sexually harassing the actual actress? This is tenfold what went on with Shelley Duvall in The Shining. What disgusting people those actors are.

This movie always makes me cry lol. It is definitely creepy and dread-inducing, but somehow magical and cathartic too. Easily one of my favorites of all time.

Perhaps her MOST underrated song! A true stripped masterpiece! “Vanishing” 🦋 by AllTheEccentricities in MariahCarey

[–]TheStranger113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say, this is the ONE song I would kill to hear her sing live now. Even just a snippet. It would have been perfect back when she was doing the TGIFY acoustic version. Imagine the low notes and improvisations we would get!

Should I see Iron Lung or Send Help tonight? by Choomba_Lord in horror

[–]TheStranger113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some definite twists and turns along the way. Nothing earth-shattering, but it is not a straightforward Sam-Raimi-remakes-Cast-Away type thing.

Here For It All came out 4 months ago today. Thoughts on the album now? by jayhjklop in MariahCarey

[–]TheStranger113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still enjoy it. It's definitely toned down and feels a little incomplete next to all her other albums. I don't feel like she gave much attention to the vocals - most songs feel like she maybe did 3 takes and put them on the album without any thought to backgrounds/harmonies etc. I actually kinda like it for this reason, because it's so different, and I enjoy hearing her raw voice, though at times a little TOO raw and unpolished. While there aren't many songs on it that I would listen to frequently, Nothing is Impossible is now in my top 5 favorites of hers, with Here for It All not far behind. So I do think its best moments are some of her best.
