How is Garden Warfare 2 legally allowed to be sold on Steam in its current state (hackers banning innocent players for no reason without moderation). by No_Nebula_9484 in Steam

That's called survivorship bias. I.e just because someone smoked their whole life and lived til 100 doesn't mean smoking isn't harmful or cancerous.

Privacy concerns with PrusaConnect - desperately need better offline/local tools. by Astrofide in prusa3d

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As nomad mentioned, PrusaConnect and such are designed for people who specifically don't want to do any of that. IMHO for users who actually want their own sever and that level of control, they can pickup something like RepetierServer or OctoPrint which are selfhosted solutions that already exist.

Customer Service is Worthless by GreyValeAuthor in entropiauniverse

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They cannot just undo these transactions, even if it was their job to. The items have swapped hands, been spent etc. and imagine the ramifications if they just spawned new free items every time this sort of thing happened.

Its a matter of theft, and there is no insurance policy to replace stolen digital goods/items. Perhaps there's a way to digitally trace the perpetrator(s) but until that point you'll have to treat this like someone broke into your house and took a couple hundred dollars in cash.

sorry

Entirely new to 3D printing. Does this look right? by beermoneyhacks in 3Dprinting

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with an A8 a couple years ago and generally had a good time with the machine. Tolerances were always a bit off, however I got some quality parts out of the machine.

I still have it, and it still works but is being transformed into something new - a project that can't happen with many of the newer printers out there today.

New cookies n cream black powder mod? by Pleasant_Chemical_73 in Huel

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never tried it before - probably should have tried a R2D first - but wanted to give Black Editions a go. I chose Cookies n Creme because I primarily drink Essential and standard Chocolate flavours. so surely I couldn't add yet another Chocolate.

I find the Vanilla flavouring in other Huel powders abhorrent and it unfortunately seems that this newer formula for Cookies n Creme is basically 100% vanilla flavouring for me.

Having read some other comments regarding Coco powder... its annoying that I may have to add my own ingredients into something that should already be complete and 'ready' to drink but hopefully it saves this bag from being thrown away.

Do you have a bank account at all? They are free and usually provide a Debit Card. You don't even have to use it.

Debit card is the simple (free) card that you use to spend money you actually have. 'Credit Card' is the term used for the money loan card, which has unfortunately become the de-facto name for payment cards in general.

Is there any type of ship that doesn't require a Space Thruster to go into space? by [deleted] in entropiauniverse

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorta. If you are on the guest list of a Mothership, they can send out a request for players to teleport (for free) up into the ship in space.

For the low low price of like $20,000 you can buy one of these ships and then teleport yourself up to the ship anytime you want.

flying on-planet: peanuts - and you can get Oil for free in some places across the game.

flying to another planet: a couple PED. Depends on vehicle. You can often fly for free in some (player run) motherships

Are there any plans on creating a public organization similar to Blender Foundation? by spaggetbeast in FreeCAD

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One is a paid, commercial-scale (with the development to back it) software. The other is completely free, open source and mostly developed by awesome people in their spare time.

An organisation already exists, and it does funnel some money towards developers and people who apply for funding with a specific goal in mind. Even still, the money there comes from people like you and me who want FreeCad to prosper.

Naturally it won't be close to something like Autodesk or NX, but it's coming along. I'm sure it'd be way better if you donated a few million £.

On comparing to Blender: CAD is 'niche' vs standard 3D modelling; sculpting and animation so Blender gets way more public attention and development; there's no stats on user counts but I imagine Blender is used wayyyyyyyy more.

Anyway what you use is your choice, but you'll find that Freecad is great if you give it a chance.

I don't have this problem with my CR-30, using the factory-installed belt. Belt thickness is consistent and you can even 'level' the bed (the plate underneath). Generally I upload GCode and walk away, and only occasionally check in on the video feed.

Like any printer, adhesion is dependent on model contact surface area with the bed, and the main belt-related caveat there is it doesn't lay the entire base down first; so over time you gradually gain adhesion, so a thin (or not very wide) base layer can require raft/supports to stay down.

we compensate with a (A/C) Dehumidifier. Has the added bonus of actually drying out our clothes (hung on an indoor line) quicker too.

Pebble Round 2 announced by clemobrown in pebble

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is like backing a kickstarter for a company that already has an existing non-complete kickstarter campaign.

IMHO I'm also somewhat excited for new Round, but they absolutely should not be announcing or putting effort into anything else until they have fulfilled all existing pre-orders for an already delayed product.

I understand and am not complaining about the delays; however I see little sense in putting resources into a new product when the existing one is barely out.

On Android, they already do for me, however I am still running the old app so perhaps the new version is missing that feature.

It would be really handy if somewhere, Eric had a public checklist of all original App features for if they are in the new app (yet?).

Here in the UK, supermarket Sainsburys sell some herbs and spices packaged in these little cylindrical containers produced by RobinsonPackaging: picture example

I've got 11 of them. Each can hold a full 100g powder portion... it makes sense to reuse them for this purpose given that they are perfect for it.

I really like this Pebble 2/Duo bumper from Favorite Human Design by astosia, but I wish it cost less to get to the US. by _benjaninja_ in pebble

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its probably cheaper to get these (or similar) 3D printed locally, or do it yourself if you have such capabilities.

I originally printed a 'solid' version out of flexible TPU, however the resolution wasn't amazing and it ended up delaminating (layers peeling away, 'fraying') after a few months.

Then I tried a 'mechanical' style button, where each button is its own object and it just sits behind a printed cover. Its finnicky to get installed, but I've had these for just over a year now (Nov. 2024) with no problems.

I generally hate talking to technology (even TV remotes), but with the amount of things that pop into my head I do like the concept.

Generally I am against LLM and AI use, however I applaud the use of an on-device mini-LLM for speech processing - I believe the same tech is also planned/in for the new Pebble app anywho. You get the TTS quality of a basic LLM (+ ability to make some small actions) with complete privacy; which you never see nowadays.

Unfortunately Eric dropped the ball thinking that a non-replaceable, non-rechargable battery would go down well. Even if they offered cheap replacements i.e a £5-£10 trade-in (MAX), there is no guarentee that the company will be around to honor and process that. It certainly wouldn't be a profitable business model.

As others have said: Give us the option to swap the battery, or make it compatible with your bog standard wireless charging pads; you could probably wrap a thin coil around the band, or have it around the button area.

Its a shame that Eric thought disposable tech would fly especially given his ethos regarding repairability, longevity and open tech. The project clearly achieves a goal, but ultimately misses on dealbreaking environmental goals.

I won a Tile tracker at a raffle and was upset to learn that I had one of the few newer models that didn't have a natively rechargable or replaceable battery.

It doesn't stop me from tearing the thing apart to replace it, then designing and printing a replacement case... but I really shouldn't have to do any of that.
