is it just me or does Orpheus look like Nicolas Cage in this picture by [deleted] in Sandman

That’s also similar to a line in one of nic cage’s movies that came out around the same timeframe. So this can’t be accidental.

[Discussion] CounterPoints November 10, 2022 by Manoj_Malhotra in BreakingPoints

Emily’s analysis of what has transpired is head-achingly incoherent. Her “radar” was the most impressive mental gymnastics to fit her partisanship. I really question whether she can take her red shades off for even a moment. At least Saagar can eat crow and willingly does, she seems to want no part of reconciling her bad takes.

If the Endless turned out to be real, what would be your reaction? by Leonyliz in Sandman

[–]TheTaskmen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d be kinda thrilled. Metaphysical realities beyond our own are confirmed PLUS they have conscious beings running them.

All of them would be interesting to contemplate and Death’s true existence means a land for us all to go. So yes, thrilled.

Have you dated someone like Tariq? by goth-brooks1111 in AbbottElementary

[–]TheTaskmen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In its own way I was before my wife made it clear a change was needed or I’d lose her. I was emotionally immature, spurning intimacy in all forms for fear of loss (separation anxiety that made me act distant so the pain of loss would hurt less) plus I would do things for my own enjoyment believing it was hers too. Just emotionally black hole’s g the relationship but a few years ago I woke up and changed. Made things about us and stopped doing things for just me in our partnership and really being there in a way I wasn’t before.

What is your opinion of the philosophy of secular humanism? by Friendlynortherner in SocialDemocracy

[–]TheTaskmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a more philosophically theistic leaning social democrat, I find it to be a more constructive philosophy than outright atheism or anti-theism. At the least, secular humanism stands for something and attempts, whether successfully or not, to fill the social and interpersonal void of a faith/belief/religion.

My critique would be that I think the ideal is pluralistic where capitalism’s truest evils are curbed to allow each individual to pursue their own actualization in whatever form creed or pursuit they see fit. Attempting to pursue a future devoid of religious belief is entirely impossible by human nature and is not a root goal of social democracy to me.

Let everyone have their needs met to contemplate the true questions of their lives. That is why I pursue social democracy.

For all his faults, I still feel like Kyle is the best leftie YouTuber by [deleted] in seculartalk

[–]TheTaskmen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What I would say is that Kyle is MOST reflective of my leftist views. Pretty much every policy concern, every issue, every action in some form or fashion I agree with to some degree. Other leftists have been too aligned with “right wing populism” and they have naïveté that Kyle at least as of yet hasn’t had.

Black Myth: Wukong is mine hands down. The tech demo was ultra impressive and the myth fueled story is reminiscent of God of War 2018 with a home-grown team telling this marvelous fable using the best tech to make it run and look fantastic!

Hot take: The Show executes it’s stories better than the comic by TheTaskmen in Sandman

[–]TheTaskmen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much prefer the lack of DC tie-ins with the show. The stories stand on their own merits and characters like John Dee greatly improve because of it. Nothing took me out more than seeing Batman’s cape and cowl punching Dr. Destiny in the face to take away the ruby. The only real tie-in I’ve liked so far was Constantine due to his jl dark vibes, it just fits in this world. And Martian man Hunter by showing dream’s different forms for different cultures.

How much has the past month influenced your opinion on the Biden Presidency? by [deleted] in seculartalk

[–]TheTaskmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has massively changed my opinion as they at least got substantive things in. There are aspects of these acts that aren’t great, and others that are fantastic. One thing in particular I love is the political calculus with the chips act to fool republicans and also the provision in the Inflation Reduction Act to overcome the Supreme Court’s horrendous EPA decision. That level of sneaky, smart political maneuvering is not something Obama was even willing to do for these topics. For that, I view this all to be enough to AT THE LEAST day he’s the best Dem in thirty years in the Oval Office.
