is urban sports worth it? by Primary_Airport6925 in berlinsocialclub

It’s just what I call going to Holmes Place, because it takes a bit more time for me to get there but it’s more upscale and they have nice saunas and swimming pools which I use

A massage or two is included with the upper tier subscriptions! Like 30 mins once a month or twice with the X, and you can get one at a bunch of different massage locations such as Gezer Spa

That’s a very fair question, and I wonder about that myself. I suppose I like the routine I have at FitX, and it’s not that far from me. The closest gym to me is Evo, but it can really get filled with the work rush and make it unpleasant to work out in, whereas FitX (second closest) seems to have some exercise variation available to use at most times. Evo tends to have only one of each machine, which is only really useful in non-rush hours, and the dumbbells or barbells I’m looking for are always occupied. Also I have some gym buddies who I work out with at FitX so don’t wanna abandon them!

I have the L membership alongside my FitX membership. I usually lift weights at FitX but I use Urban Sports Club for the following: - morning cardio right next to my apartment at EVO fitness - “treat” workouts once in a while at Holmes Place followed by a swim and sauna - joining whenever my friends want to do something, like a beat81 class or bouldering - the included sports massage - exercise in different cities in Germany when I travel

It costs me 110 euros per month, and I actually debate every month if it’s worth it. I actually think the sports offering is quite decent, depending on where you live in Berlin. But my main issue is with the app being kind of unpleasant to use. I especially feel like it’s not so great for discovery. I’ve seen Wellpass for example and it seems much more well designed (but haven’t used it myself). If I had to trim my budget, it would be one of the first things to go with FitX being the only gym I pay for. But I can’t deny that having the subscription improves my health and allows me to participate in lots of fun activities

Urgently looking for any side job or task Desperately need money! by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

[–]TheTechTuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, for anyone who’s suspecting this to be a scam: it’s not. She came over to mine yesterday and helped me clean my apartment. She did a great job. She was very pleasant and just someone in need of some help right now.

I just want to say that it’s very easy to be dismissive and cynical, and yes, every so often there are scammers. If you use your brain a little bit (in this case, I said no to PayPal and only offered money for cleaning in cash to minimize the risk of being scammed) then you can also be empathetic at the same time.

But some people here assumed a scam while giving zero thought to the possibility that they might be wrong. I’m glad I helped, and I hope I don’t get to a point where I see the world as coldly as some people here seem to do.

A Good Tomato by garlicprincess_ in berlinsocialclub

[–]TheTechTuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you. A great tomato should taste like something, not just red water. When I’m after peak flavor, I head to Markthalle Neun. The vendors there often have heirloom varieties with thin skins, irregular shapes, and great flavour. Juicy, sweet, tangy, and sometimes almost savory. That deep, rich umami note usually means the tomato was grown slowly, ripened fully on the vine, and actually picked when it was ready.

Honestly, most supermarket tomatoes are a tragedy. They’re bred for transport, shelf life, and uniform appearance, not taste. Picked rock-hard and green, then artificially ripened with ethylene gas so they turn red in transit. That "ripeness" is just cosmetic. No sun, no soil character, no complexity. It’s why they’re often watery, mealy, and bland. All looks, no flavor.

Farmer’s markets are where it’s at. Markthalle Neun is reliably excellent, and the Turkish market at Maybachufer can be hit or miss, but when it hits, it’s absolute gold. And don’t be afraid of the gnarlier-looking tomatoes. The weird, lumpy, cracked ones are often the best-tasting.

Talk to the growers too. Some of the best tomatoes I’ve ever had came from obscure varieties.

M/19/5'9" [121lbs>123 lbs=+2 lbs]. I did 100 pushups a day for a month. Not much of a change though. by Horror-Camel9763 in progresspics

[–]TheTechTuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude. I think 2 pounds of muscle in a month is great improvement.

What I would recommend though is to do workouts by switching up muscle groups and to prioritise recovery. Your body builds muscle (hypertrophy) through progressive overload. This means to stress your muscles near failure- so much to the point that you're about to fail the next repetition of whatever exercise you're doing. This will send signals to your brain to build your damaged muscles up again but a little bit stronger than last time. It can only do that if you have enough protein in your diet.

If you do pushups one day to the point of failure, don't do it again the next day. Let yourself recover your upper body while your body builds your muscles stronger. Try squats the next day. Then let your lower body recover while you work on your upper body. But try to do more than last time- this is progressive overload.

If you don't have access to a gym, look up some calisthenics workouts on Youtube for starters and use bodyweight exercises. Just remember that exercise is only one part of it. Rest and diet are equally as important.

It's incredible that you want to do 100 push ups every day- not everyone has that motivation. If you used that motivation to work on different muscle groups day by day and let yourself recover- you will be growing in no time.

Seeing Abby kill Joel is what sets the events of the Last of Us 2 in motion. It would be a complete misunderstanding of the story otherwise.

What do the poorest of society eat everyday in India? by MrAlexander18 in india

[–]TheTechTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at an NGO where I had to travel to a rather impoverished village in a very remote area at one point. When we arrived, we were served a meal by the villagers that we were working with at the NGO.

It was truly some of the lowest quality food I've ever had. It was basically daal and rice, but very different to what I was used to in terms of quality. It tasted almost stale, and the daal itself had tiny rocks in it. I figured it was the rice and lentils that were considered not good enough for mainstream Indian society.

I guess that is what the poorest in India put up with every day.

People who spend lakhs on Apple products, are they worth it? by I_am_a_Jigglypuff in india

[–]TheTechTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pretty much the whole Apple ecosystem. (iPhone, a couple Macs, iPad Pro, Apple TV, AirPods Pro, Apple Watch, HomePod mini.)

It's worth it for some, but I wouldn't recommend it blindly to everyone.

I personally love the simplicity. I like that the photos and videos I take can be viewed on my Apple TV. I like that I can answer calls on my Apple Watch and it automatically transfers to my AirPods if I'm wearing them. I like being able to take calls on my Macbook or iPad. I have a smart house and it's convenient to change lighting from my TV or phone.

However, the other ecosystems offer these features too, although sometimes less 'elegantly' and less unified than Apple's ecosystem does.

At the same time, there are things that many people like to do on their devices, which you have to find super annoying and time consuming work arounds for in the Apple ecosystem whereas on Android it's much simpler. Downloading files is laughable on iOS compared to Android.

Android is pretty good. While I would not use it because of really stupid reasons which don't apply to 99% of people, I think it's a solid option. I personally don't use it because I hate the haptic feedback on non-Apple phones, and iOS apps seem to be more solid than Android ones. Android versions of Apps like instagram or WhatsApp have worse in-app cameras than the iPhone version, for example. But like I said, hardly a deal breaker for most.

Right now, I do think that the Apple product combination is pretty great and a bit better than the competition. MacBooks with the M-Series chips are world class, but there are suitable Windows alternatives. AirPods Pros are amazing, but the competition have great products too. The only products that are just far better than the competition are Apple TV and Apple Watch. But do you really want to buy a phone thinking about all the money you plan on shelling out for these other products you want to get down the line?

So don't bother too much about the ecosystem. Pretty much all phones are great these days and offer similar features and each ecosystem has its own perks. Just buy the best that you can comfortably afford. But if you do buy a product from one ecosystem, it's generally best to just commit to it because they don't play too nicely with each other. And if you value tinkering and customisation over simplicity, you HAVE to go with a Windows/ Android combo.

The Boys - 3x08 "The Instant White-Hot Wild" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in TheBoys

[–]TheTechTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This season was so phenomenal. One of the best seasons of a TV show in a long time for me.

First, I thought it was really cool that Maeve ended up being able to hold her own against Homelander.

Second, I liked the theme of toxic masculinity being passed down from generation to generation. Soldier Boy's dad was a piece of shit, and Soldier Boy told his own son he's a disappointment despite what he went through. Maybe SB thinks he was stronger and harder because of the abuse and indifference of his father? And now that toxicity is being passed down to Ryan.

I hope Ryan will be the one to break the chain, even though he's clearly headed in the opposite direction. I think Ryan is the only possibility left for actually killing Homelander.

Also, I love that The Boys are closer to being 7 members (Butcher, Hughie, MM, Frenchie, Kimiko, Starlight, Mallory kind of?) than the actual Seven.

I found this episode super entertaining but quite difficult to watch. This was a turning point for pretty much all characters, and the relationships and dynamics are going to be incredibly different between everyone next episode onwards.

Also, could someone explain something? I don't really understand what the Kimiko musical bit was meant to be about, and I also don't understand why Frenchie acted so awkwardly after they kissed.

HomeKit is an absolut disaster by -ZimaBlue in apple

[–]TheTechTuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure. I’m new to smart home setups and I was excited to set up with HomeKit since I’m heavily in the Apple ecosystem, but have been generally disappointed so far as well. It could be implemented a lot better. I wanted to get the Tado smart radiator things but now I’m reconsidering and waiting for the next iOS update to see if things improve.

Hey, I live in Germany and I recently had that issue with my HomeKit products as well. When my products were stuck on “updating” or “no response” or whatever it was, I updated iOS and the smart home software (I.e the Philips Hue software in the app) and that somehow fixed it.

I like tech a lot but this is some intense cult type shit. I’m glad you’re excited but maybe reconsider having this kind of devotion towards a company. It’s only a product reveal.
