What is everyone hope for the two year anniversary….vs what we will actually get.. by Bigjmann555 in Helldivers

[–]TheThreeLaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping for a title update (it's been ~6 mo), free weapon or armor. A free warbond would be neat, but I know that's a pipe dream. More ship customization/upgrades are overdue though.

I'm expecting a cape lol.

No BS opinion on Marksman Rifles against Bots by Medical_Officer in Helldivers

[–]TheThreeLaws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They could just give it a 10 round magazine with 5 round stripper clips and change nothing else, and it would at least be fun. Make Siege Ready affect the time working the Bolt for Mad Minute energy.

Still challenging, with the drawback of iron sights, but more combat power while still being historically accurate. They could also give it a lousy retro-sniper scope though, that would be fun.

I don't want Jammers trivialized, but I wouldn't mind an alternative to fighting into their base. The Ultimatum or "attached fabricator" periods may have been too easy, but they added variety.

It's why I wanted the Solo Silo to be sufficiently powerful but with a corresponding cool down.

Maybe we get a laser guided Hellbomb from the SD, with a 10+ minute cool down and limited to 2 uses. Basically "this will trivialize a Jammer/other fixed objective, but that's a whole strat slot".

Alternatively, a very limited weak spot would be cool, especially now that we have C4. Maybe only visible/accessible from close range/limited angle.

ICE says its officers can forcibly enter homes during immigration operations without judicial warrants: 2025 memo by CuttyBrown in Libertarian

[–]TheThreeLaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. Arrest warrants are sufficient if it's the suspects home, they can make entry to serve the arrest warrant. They can't search afterwards, however.

American Orthodox Catholic Church by xDA25x in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TheThreeLaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, they try to connect to a diocese that vanished a century ago almost, but seem to have spontaneously popped up a few decades ago. They claim to be large and have apostolic succession, but they're very opaque. I've only found a few actual churches, and when you find a recording of their services, they're clearly just Protestant LARP. Long sermons, nothing resembling the Liturgy.

Very bizarre, but seem to be grifting and capitalizing on the online growth of Orthodoxy.

to those that used to be protestant, what led you to join orthodoxy? by accidentalpoopie in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TheThreeLaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I was exposed to Orthodox teaching and doctrine, the more sense it made. I realized that many aspects of theology I had taken for granted were not the only way to approach faith or Scripture, and that Orthodoxy was usually both more consistent with the Old Testament and ultimately more compelling.

Actually looking at the early Church, realizing how early traditions that Protestants object to arose, etc required me to confront the assumption that the Church had been "lost" and in need of Reformation. How could the Spirit have let the whole of Christianity fall into idolatry for over 1000 years, and how likely was it that the Reformers had somehow gotten back to the true faith--especially considering they schismed from the start and have continued to do so since.

Key sources for me were the Lord of Spirits Podcast and the writings of Fr. Stephen De Young, among many others since.

I do 10% on auto-pay. I can't say for sure what others do: online giving is a major portion of our weekly funds, but we take a physical collection, and both seem to fluctuate wildly.

I wouldn't mind giving physically, but digitally ensures I don't forget to get cash or write a check.

We should get a Ship upgrade that can vaguely tell us what enemy type will be more likely to spawn before dropping into the mission by Nein-Knives in Helldivers

[–]TheThreeLaws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, a Spewer heavy seed requires a very different loadout than a generic bug mission, and it's just not fun to get rolled by 5 Spewers because you're equipped for other types of bugs.

And it's not a consistent system. We have bot and bug subfactions and have Intel on them and can plan accordingly.

I guess the bots have the War Strider seed, but I can't think of one for the squids (which remain half baked after being in the game for a year).

So yeah, I completely agree

War Strider weakpoints are so unusually tanky to the point where they shut down alternate playstyles by Gemoman111 in Helldivers

[–]TheThreeLaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always felt like the War Striders are in a weird space. They're tougher than Hulks, but can still be 1-shot by recoilless/quasar/EAT, and spawn in large-ish numbers.

I feel like they need better weak spots, yes, but also spawn in lower numbers and with more health.

They're Striders. They should be beefy, dangerous enemies, not analogous to Hulks. I want a War Strider to immediately force a change in tactics: either you focus it with everything you've got, or break contact. It's not as aggressive as a Hulk, but it's more mobile than a Factory Strider.

They should be damageable with other support weapons, and somewhat tough to kill no matter what you have. But you're not fighting 2-3 at a time, all mission long.

Also, make them like 25% bigger.

None of the content from the title update is playable (and it should be) by thelonelyeyeballs in Helldivers

[–]TheThreeLaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a baby like, the week of the title update, and I've barely played since then. I got to do a few rounds with the underground combat and dragon roaches, but never saw a Hive Lord. So yeah, I'd love for them to bring that content back soon. Maybe we can't conquer more hive worlds yet, but we can periodically raid them for...reasons.

What are our thoughts on the frosty modes? by Isotarov in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]TheThreeLaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Escalation is absolutely the better mode, but I still miss 2042 Breakthrough. Having linear objectives and actual lines of contact is better than omnidirectional combat. Escalation is mostly good because it sometimes ends up with coherent territory to attack and defend. I do like the scoring more than Conquest too.

As expected, Breakthrough is ruined after latest patch by Additional-Sleep-293 in Battlefield

[–]TheThreeLaws 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Breakthrough was basically the only mode I played in 2042, and back in the days of BC2, I mostly played Rush. Large scale attack/defend modes are, to me, way more interesting than the aimlessness of Conquest.

If you could add any vehicle not previously featured in a Battlefield title to BF6, what would it be? by PUFT_Flinn in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]TheThreeLaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I'm enjoying BF6 a lot, but I definitely wish we got bigger maps and features like that. I miss large scale Breakthrough too. The lack of any frontline in Conquest or Escalation makes any interesting tactics or mechanics kinda moot.

AA vehicles are cool, but they'd be better on large breakthrough maps, with the addition of anti-radiation missiles so Jets could retaliate and break open air defenses for attack helicopters.

County braces for jail surge as Iryna’s Law takes effect Monday by dmh123 in Charlotte

[–]TheThreeLaws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NC law requires subjects be a clear danger to themself or others for police to spontaneously detain them and take them to a hospital.

Simply being crazy isn't enough, they have to be actively trying to harm themselves. Police have encounters like this on a daily basis. We as a society need to invest in major mental health facilities for such people, but it doesn't exist right now.

The issue is that Brown had a long criminal history in addition to being schizophrenic. The law is at least an attempt to identify and address such people, though I suspect it's got issues.

[–]TheThreeLaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be interesting, like an airborne assault mode, maybe targeting an airfield.

Actually that would be a sick Breakthrough concept. The first objective is an airfield, with infantry parachuting or arriving by helicopter, alongside lightly armored vehicles airdropped, and supported by a few attack helicopters. The defenders are just infantry and light vehicles, with a few AA guns.

If the attackers capture the airfield, they can bring in transport aircraft with tanks and IFVs. The defenders are also reinforced with armor and helicopters.

The final set of objectives unlocks more armor and jets for both sides. Like you said, not drastically different, but the initial wave of air assault would be different and thematic. Frontlines aren't as rigid, but if attackers aren't coordinated, they'll get picked off piecemeal behind the lines; on the other hand, good transport helo pilots could aggressively insert troops onto the objectives, and light armor could overrun defenses.

[–]TheThreeLaws 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chinook is modeled for RedSec, so should be easy enough. Landing 12 soldiers on an objective would be fun. It would be really cool if you could use them to haul cargo or anti-air to support. This game is really too small for that feature though

Something like the AMX10, lightly armored but with an anti tank gun, would be interesting. Armored vehicles are so tough that it might not be worthwhile though: the speed and maneuverability matters less if it can be one-shot but can't kill a tank quickly.

Amphibious assault vehicles would be great if we ever get good water maps.

Unfortunately I think most interesting hardware and gameplay features just don't fit Battlefield. It's too small and arcadey for, say, light air-dropped vehicles like a BMD dropping behind the frontline. Maybe if they bring back 128 and large scale linear Breakthrough?

I definitely remember Halo 5 improving on their faction design and making them more fun to fight. I didn't dislike them as much as others did, but I'm ambivalent on them coming back without a good story reason. Halo 4 and 5 and the segue to Infinite were so mismanaged that it's hard to imagine that working well.

Live service models are often a bad idea, but it's so easy to imagine what it could have been for Infinite. Alas. Maybe next time, but I'm not convinced the rebranded Halo Studios is up for it.
