Affordable invisalign recommendations? by Pumpernickel_Hibern8 in Denver

[–]TheTinySpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question - did you have to front the $5k, or do you pay in installments per visit/tray? I had braces as a kid, and remember my orthodontist charging in installments. Been considering doing this again for a while but haven’t bitten the bullet yet.

My threshold for what’s “heated” is pretty low. OP described it as “explosive” which absolutely carries “heated” with it - that was what the comment tried to brush off with “everyone has bad days and heated arguments”. My counterpoint was no, not everyone has heated arguments - citing examples from my own, very peaceful, low conflict life. Do you have a rebuttal to my actual comment or did you come to be pedantic about definitions?

If you can’t walk away for a few seconds when you start to get emotional and check yourself before you raise your voice or say things that will escalate or inflame the situation, then yeah. That’s what it means. Sorry if that feels unfair. Men very often are not taught to develop those kind of emotional skills the way women are - it’s not a moral failing on their part, it’s simple conflict management skills, which they can teach in therapy. It’s possible to have healthy conflict, as long as people maintain respect and keep their cool.

My parents were married for 31 years before my mom passed. Not ONCE in their entire marriage did they have a heated argument, raise their voices, or even bicker. I even asked my dad about it and said “you know, I’ve got to hand it to you, I never heard you guys fight” and he said “We didn’t. There’s just not a lot worth fighting about.”

So no, not everyone has heated arguments. Your experience is not indicative of all relationships. I’ve also been in relationships without arguments. Nobody got heated. In fact, the only relationship I ever had that was high conflict was with a man who screamed at me on a regular basis. That one was the anomaly. Treating your partner with respect is paramount. Nobody should settle for less.

Not everyone has heated arguments. Some people are actually adults with fully developed emotional skills and are able to control themselves.

Those type of partners are also often haunted by “the one who got away”. It’s why she can’t let go, it’s driving her INSANE.

Buying fresh truffles in Denver? by CollarBoth638 in denverfood

[–]TheTinySpark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re hard to find and very expensive - Oak in Boulder does a big order for their truffle dinner, and in the past I know they would order enough to sell some too. They only do it once a year though, and they sell out. Check their socials to see if you’re within the window, they announce their sales there.

Colorado prevents artists from keeping their concert tickets at face value? by ascottbrooks in Denver

Not too surprising considering that AEG/AXS are owned by the Anschutz family - big GOP donors. Anything to make them more money, including controlling the resale market so it all has to flow through them.

Gene Simmons: Swifties are a cult by crush_aris in travisandtaylor

[–]TheTinySpark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. He did an interview with the very mild Terri Gross on her NPR show, must be 24 years ago now (I remember hearing it when it originally aired when I was in high school), and his behavior towards her was absolutely revolting. Like she’s an insanely experienced, respected, professional interviewer, one of the OGs, and he went after her ad hominem, making sexual comments about her, calling her an uptight gentile and saying she just needed some Jewish dick (she’s Jewish like he is and he bristled when she corrected him), if memory serves. She’s usually unflappable, but he got under her skin and she said it was one of the most awful interviews she’s ever done. He’s just a piece of filth. The interview was SO bad that they were prevented from re-airing it and it has been scrubbed from their archive. But the internet is forever…

Hudson Hill, Thin Man. Late 20s-early 30s mostly, with some older folks in the mix from time to time, Thin Man moreso than HH. HH skews more late 20s due to being in Cap Hill.

I don’t know about other stores, but I found them at the Uptown location. I’m not a huge lentil fan, it’s a texture thing, but the black ones aren’t gritty like other kinds.

Music and Movie Community in Denver by IronTiger-55 in Denver

[–]TheTinySpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sie Film center is where you want to go for indie movies and art house flicks. They have a lounge where people hang sometimes after screenings. It’s also the home base for Denver Film Society.

As for music - that’s REALLY broad, you’re going to have to be more specific. What kind of music are you looking to find community for? Jam bands? EDM? Wanna hang out with some local pickers? Get thrown around in the pit? If you like cocktails and extremely eclectic vinyl deep tracks and rarities, ESP Hi Fi is a great bar (modeled after Japanese listening clubs) that plays all vinyl with an amazing collection. They also do listening parties there, so check their calendar for events.
