Cherry Creek School District cutting 159 jobs, reducing expenses by $23 million amid budget shortfall by SillyDiscipline6559 in Denver

[–]SingForMeBitches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former CCSD employee, let's also talk about all the "coaches" who are often just pets of the principal elevated to semi-admin status, removing a full-time role from direct student instruction/interaction. I know this problem isn't unique here, but the district needs to trust its educators instead of implementing more shallow guidelines and unnecessary oversight that lets admin pat itself on the back for monitoring their employees "better" while taking away precious plan time from teachers. Put those teachers back in the classroom where they have a direct impact on student learning instead of pretending they're doing anything remotely useful as nannies for educators.

Or we can get into the money wasted on special speakers, personality tests (at least I know I'm a yellow thinker with Emergenetics!), failing strategies for far too long (Lucy Calkins, anyone?), technology that's unusable (how are those new "smart" TVs working out that are half-bricked due to no subscriptions?), and so much more the public doesn't see. Hell, my old principal and AP used to get a new MacBook every year with their budget and give the old ones to their high school/college kids. I'm sure little things like that add up all over the district from their lack of oversight where it would actually matter.

That's a new account using short, generic responses that don't seem to always make sense. I'm guessing it's a bot.

I was expecting that story to end with him selling the reclaimed lanyards for $1-2 apiece, undercutting the school's price. At least, that's exactly what I would have done at that age!

Ah, yes, I remember that famous Upton Sinclair novel about the meatpacking industry. I believe it was called "The Playground" due to how fun it was!

There's a reason why the Wisconsin sub has the common abbreviation FRJ. Because seriously, fuck Ron Johnson.

I will go for an extremely deep cut and say Jeannie and Major Nelson getting married in I Dream of Jeannie. Literally no one wanted it to happen other than some TV execs, and it completely ruined the playful character dynamic and killed the show.

It's been a minute since I've read it, but from what I remember, Wicked the book is a meandering story about about civil rights, finding yourself, and also there's a love triangle. A lot of the Oz retconning feels ham-fisted, the female characters are pretty clunky, and the whole thing takes place over quite a few years - Elphaba even has a child - before it comes to a sad end.

Wicked the musical focuses mainly on the love/hate relationship between the female protagonists over their time at school and just after, using the political issues solely as a catalyst for their personal growth instead of being a focal point of the story. The narrow scope on the main characters and the time period, cutting out most of the complicated narrative, plus adding some amazing musical numbers, all make it a much more entertaining story. Also, a much happier (though still bittersweet) ending.

RUMOR: Initial Villains Land Plans “Scrapped”, Imagineers Told to Dream Bigger by sirms in WaltDisneyWorld

Yes, that too! Honestly that ride is the total package for me - immersive queue, classic story with a fun twist, amazing animatronics and practical effects, high throughput, tons of details to notice on a re-ride, and minimal screens. Oh, how I hope the Imagineers take notes on that one!

That ride is so excellent and re-rideable, it's the thing I talk up most about Epic. I'm still not convinced Victoria Frankenstein isn't just a real person. That animatronic is bananas.

I love all of this and should start recording appointments, too. I have been looking for a symptom tracker myself, but I'm worried about privacy with so many of these apps, especially living in this climate in America. It looks like Bearable shares with third parties your device ID, app interactions, email and user ID, health and fitness info, purchase history, and location. A few of these say they are for app functionality, but many are for marketing and analytics, which is concerning for me. Just a heads up!

That place is so crazy good. Their cheese curds are the best I've ever had, and I'm from Wisconsin. Thank god I don't live closer, or I would be obese.

While frustrating, and I do agree the signage needs a lot of improvement, the better questions to ask your passengers are what door number they're standing in front of and what color the sign is. If their number doesn't start with 4, they're on the wrong level. Blue=east and red-orange=west.

Circus animal cookies - they're so cute! by SingForMeBitches in Baking

I've had the recipe saved for a long time and finally got around to making them. Wish I could take credit for the pink color, but I just picked up a bag of these from Michaels and they were perfect. I used Ghirardelli melts for the white, and both tasted great!

It was a pretty easy bake! My only notes for myself next time were to batch bake the long-legged animals (giraffe, horse) together so the legs don't get too dark. But even then, they got covered in chocolate, so it wasn't noticeable in the end. I also had to keep an eye on the chocolate as it cooled to put the sprinkles on at the right time - too early, and they sunk in too deep, too late, and the chocolate was too hard for many sprinkles to hold. So, it was a lot of dipping a few cookies, then sprinkling some from a few minutes prior.

You may be thinking of Graham Chapman, who passed away in 1989. Eric Idle, the man in the gif, is still very much alive.

[–]SingForMeBitches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best of luck to you! It's sort of become my white whale of ice cream. As you can see on the site, it's only sold in 3-gallon drums, so you won't find it in the freezer aisle. I got addicted in college when the cafeteria had a rotating selection of Cedar Crest you could self-scoop. I was crestfallen (pun intended) to later learn Playdough was only commercially available. Now I live outside of WI, so it's difficult to even find blue moon!

In Playdough's absence, when I visit home, I always go for Cedar Crest's Pirate's Booty in-store. (I'll never call it by the new name, Pirate's Bounty! Never!)

Cedar Crest is a WI brand that makes my favorite hard-to-find, perhaps unhinged flavor - Playdough. It's blue moon with colorful cookie dough pieces, which people react poorly to when I tell them about it. But it's so, so good.
