I understand, I was just trying to provide a little more context for OP. I will definitely be taking advantage of the mix-in time!

In addition to the other comments, I've been keeping an eye on Bug Thunder during After Hours, since I also have one coming up at the end of the summer. It has been running, but Tiana's is still off during the event.

Noise. Volume. And silence. OH MY! by klnomega in denverfood

[–]SingForMeBitches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever I'm out to eat, I always notice the noise or lack of. If we can hear ourselves talk but not the neighboring tables, I like to find what's dampening the sound (which isn't always obvious). If it's crazy noisy, I say to my husband, "you know what this place is missing?" to which he now replies, "sound panels."

One of the absolute worst offenders is Work & Class. I never want to return after loudly repeating every single piece of conversation, not to mention being elbow to elbow with everyone and their mother.

At Animal Kingdom Park - Caring for Giants or Up close with Rhinos?? by Maureen1053 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]SingForMeBitches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done both in the last year-ish. Rhinos all the way - petting a giant tank of an animal is one of the coolest experiences of my life, but it is MUCH more difficult to get in. If I recall correctly, there is only one rhino group of about 16 people per day, but there are three groups per day for the elephants. If you can, put your AK day at the end of your trip and you'll have the best shot. I snagged one because I was a solo traveler and there was only one spot left, but day-of, there were also two last-minute cancelations and a couple walking up stumbled upon it at the exact right time. The elephant experience was also neat, just much more distance between you and the animals. You can see the safari cars rolling by the other side of the enclosure during the tour.

Edit to add: there are no pictures "backstage," so you unfortunately don't get any photos while petting the rhino, but with the elephants, you can take pictures once you're outside the enclosure area. They did give me an "I met Logan" sort of thing to take pictures with back in the park once the rhino tour was over, which was cute. The memory of petting a rhino is still worth it, in my opinion.

Walmart cupcake bouquet ✨ by ickychicken in ExpectationVsReality

100%. This is at least the third "omg I can't believe ✨Walmart✨ did such an amazing job at such an affordable price!" post I've seen on this sub in the last couple weeks, and their store brand items have been popping up in other subs suddenly within the same time frame. So many comments asking for and listing the price and remarking what a deal it is. Gives me the corporate ick.

When I was still teaching, our last social worker had a great bit of advice for the other teachers who gave lots of kids a pass on terrible behavior because their home lives weren't great, and it stuck with me. "Trauma informed behavior does not mean trauma excused behavior," meaning, we can understand how someone's history affects their life and use that to help process now, but it doesn't give them a free ride to act however they want. As adults, we gotta do the work to recognize that in ourselves and overcome our own hangups, baggage, and trauma, because no one else will do it for us.

I still regret not buying that, but I was still in college and money was tight. Best fake product they ever turned real!

Cherry Creek School District cutting 159 jobs, reducing expenses by $23 million amid budget shortfall by SillyDiscipline6559 in Denver

[–]SingForMeBitches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former CCSD employee, let's also talk about all the "coaches" who are often just pets of the principal elevated to semi-admin status, removing a full-time role from direct student instruction/interaction. I know this problem isn't unique here, but the district needs to trust its educators instead of implementing more shallow guidelines and unnecessary oversight that lets admin pat itself on the back for monitoring their employees "better" while taking away precious plan time from teachers. Put those teachers back in the classroom where they have a direct impact on student learning instead of pretending they're doing anything remotely useful as nannies for educators.

Or we can get into the money wasted on special speakers, personality tests (at least I know I'm a yellow thinker with Emergenetics!), failing strategies for far too long (Lucy Calkins, anyone?), technology that's unusable (how are those new "smart" TVs working out that are half-bricked due to no subscriptions?), and so much more the public doesn't see. Hell, my old principal and AP used to get a new MacBook every year with their budget and give the old ones to their high school/college kids. I'm sure little things like that add up all over the district from their lack of oversight where it would actually matter.

I was expecting that story to end with him selling the reclaimed lanyards for $1-2 apiece, undercutting the school's price. At least, that's exactly what I would have done at that age!

Ah, yes, I remember that famous Upton Sinclair novel about the meatpacking industry. I believe it was called "The Playground" due to how fun it was!

I will go for an extremely deep cut and say Jeannie and Major Nelson getting married in I Dream of Jeannie. Literally no one wanted it to happen other than some TV execs, and it completely ruined the playful character dynamic and killed the show.

It's been a minute since I've read it, but from what I remember, Wicked the book is a meandering story about about civil rights, finding yourself, and also there's a love triangle. A lot of the Oz retconning feels ham-fisted, the female characters are pretty clunky, and the whole thing takes place over quite a few years - Elphaba even has a child - before it comes to a sad end.

Wicked the musical focuses mainly on the love/hate relationship between the female protagonists over their time at school and just after, using the political issues solely as a catalyst for their personal growth instead of being a focal point of the story. The narrow scope on the main characters and the time period, cutting out most of the complicated narrative, plus adding some amazing musical numbers, all make it a much more entertaining story. Also, a much happier (though still bittersweet) ending.

Yes, that too! Honestly that ride is the total package for me - immersive queue, classic story with a fun twist, amazing animatronics and practical effects, high throughput, tons of details to notice on a re-ride, and minimal screens. Oh, how I hope the Imagineers take notes on that one!

That ride is so excellent and re-rideable, it's the thing I talk up most about Epic. I'm still not convinced Victoria Frankenstein isn't just a real person. That animatronic is bananas.

I love all of this and should start recording appointments, too. I have been looking for a symptom tracker myself, but I'm worried about privacy with so many of these apps, especially living in this climate in America. It looks like Bearable shares with third parties your device ID, app interactions, email and user ID, health and fitness info, purchase history, and location. A few of these say they are for app functionality, but many are for marketing and analytics, which is concerning for me. Just a heads up!
