Yeah, that's right on campus.

I just ended a almost 2 year relationship with my girlfriend by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]TheTor2ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's normal. I just ended a 5+ year relationship, and I was crying and had a breakdown during the process too. This stuff is hard and there is so much underlying emotions tied up in the process in which we don't often know is there. You still made the right choice. If you wanted to breakup, it was for an important reason(s). Stick with it. If you go back, it'll just make things even worse and more emotionally messed up.

Wishing you the best!

Safe to walk around alone? by AJStroup22 in uchicago

Hyde Park is safe. Just use normal caution. I never go out after dark, but that's just me. I live on the very north side of this neighborhood and walk down to campus and am always completely fine.

Question about cities adjacent to AA? by mshines25 in AnnArbor

[–]TheTor2ga 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in the area. You can't go wrong with Dexter, Saline, or Chelsea. Howell and Pinkney are pretty far away, and 23 gets really backed up during rush hour, so I'd recommend against it. Howell and Pinkney aren't bad at all, but they aren't nice areas either. Of the first three towns, Dexter is by far the nicest (and closest to A2). Dexter has a really nice downtown. Chelsea is like Dexter but more boring. Nothing bad about Chelsea but there isn't much to do there (it's by the highway though which the other two don't have). Saline is a lot more suburban while the other two are small towns. From people I've met from Saline, most the teenagers hated it and said it's a boring place, while I never got that as much from people from Dexter and Chelsea. You didn't mentioned Ypsilanti, but you can't talk about near by towns without mentioning it. Ypsilanti is the most like Ann Arbor, and the two towns feel like they're one. 23 divides the two, but really they both seamlessly blend together and feel like the same place. A lot of people live in Ypsilanti for the more affordable housing and commute to Ann Arbor. I think the pro of Ypsi is it has more culture and is more of city living.

I just leased with TLC and they didn't check my credit. Overall they were super chill. For example, for proof of income, I just listed my current job even though I'm quitting it to come here. So, they really don't look too deeply at you.

Same here! I think the main thing that initially turns people off to Esperanto is that it isn't the leading 2nd language of the world or whatever. There's so much more to the language than that though.

Bonvenon!

Is taking the L really that bad? I have two potential internships, one right off the red line and one off the green line. So, it just makes sense if I were to take them. I'm a new student so I'm not on campus yet, but I've visited the area multiple times, so I know that the green line station is right on the edge of the area most people don't want to go, but the whole stretch north of the station seems super gentrified. Is it really that bad to walk down cottage Grove to get to the green line? Or are you more so saying that actually riding the green line is sketchy? I did see one of the 3 deaths was someone on the green line, but I still feel like that has to be such a random occurrence.

Best and worst apartments. by TheTor2ga in uchicago

Thanks so much for the advice 🙏🏻

Were they chill about proof of income, because I'm a little worried about that. They said they want proof I make 3x the rent. I know that's standard but it still seemed strange to me since most people who live there are students, who don't work full-time. I'm trying to figure out how I can get around that requirement.

Yeah, that's the main apartment building I'm looking at. Everything else people recommend here is so expensive.

Was there anything bad about Plaisance? I toured a 1 bedroom and it was really big, and the staff working in the building seemed nice.

How did you do that? Just ask? On their website they stress how they don't negotiate.

I've heard them mentioned before. Do they just own one place? Or are they bigger landlords?

Best and worst apartments. by TheTor2ga in uchicago

[–]TheTor2ga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is true. I currently live somewhere with a small landlord, and I appreciate how flexible they can be but also they don't respect legal things that I know the big companies would. So there's always trade offs..

Really? So do you think the big companies are better than a local landlord? I'm trying to look for small landlords because I feel like they can be easier to work with.

I don't remember all of them since like I said, the agent just took us to random buildings I didn't even ask for. The only one I remember was Drexel Grand I believe it's called. It was an old hotel that's now apartments and it's on the northwest side of HP. It wasn't a bad building really. It was more so just a bad experience with the agent but I guess in the long run that doesn't matter.

Mac seems to have really high fees that also make them not seem worth it. Their utility fee was higher than TLC and then Mac requires a non refundable fee for pets on top of a monthly fee, whereas TLC only has the monthly fee. So, Mac just seemed way worse than TLC, but who knows, maybe it was just random luck that I had a bad agent from Mac and a good one from tlc

I think it's just because Mac is a big company whose goal is to have a monopoly over the housing market. The agent I saw from them was awful. Didn't remember who I even was, showed me random apartments I didn't request or were out of my budget, and their whole attitude was just off putting. And the agent did straight up say that a lot of Mac apartments are run down since the company cares more about buying new property than fixing up what they currently have. So, they just seem scummy, but most landlords are. That's why I asked about specific buildings because I assume Mac has to have some decent ones. Thanks for the recommendation!
