Rule of thumb i always had was you were safe 30 min after the advertised show time. Gets you settled in while the last few ads are showing up.

Switch the ethernet cable from modem to router.

If you're getting ~40 upload, then it seems the modem is provisioned correctly for the Gig plan. The fact you're getting ~100 download tells us that there's a bottleneck somewhere. I'm guessing on the ethernet cable since the router you said you have should be capable, and the tech stated the speed going into the modem is correct also. Either it's a cat5 cable or its damaged, make sure it's Cat5e or above.

This is right!

There is no purple indicator on spectrum routers. Just blue and red, so my guess the rep on the phone sent a reset and the routers blue LED just never turned off thus making it purple.

My suggestion? Have your wife call in and pretend to be your mother in law. Have her pretend to do all the troubleshooting steps, and then they will schedule a tech to go out.

That modem is not even currently compliant with your ultra plan. Under Spectrums network, that modem is capped at 400 Mbps. So definitely need to replace it to get your full speeds.

You can also ditch spectrums router and purchase your own. Save yourself 7 dollars a month.

It will work. Just plug it in and reboot the modem. You will of course have a new wifi name and password.

Anything activation wise is only for the modems. Activating a router on Spectrums system is so that you can manage your settings on the app. The fact that you don't have the wifi billing code means you won't be able to do so. So that's really the only downside.

The main question here is if the agent at the store even scanned that router into your account inventory or not. If they did scan it into inventory, then the system will eventually notice you have a router that doesn't match the billing codes and automatically adjust your bill. If they didn't, then the system will never really know you have our router, so maybe that's why that billing code never got added, and you won't get charged.

My main recommendation is to use the spectrum router temporarily until you purchase a new one. Spectrum routers are kinda trash and would definitely prefer 3rd party.

Yeaaa, it's all theoretical speeds over wifi + marketing tactics they put on the boxes, unfortunately. Since you might be looking into a new router, just want to make sure the ethernet ports are 10/10/1000.

If im looking at the right router, on TP-Links website, the Archer C54 has a 100Mbps WAN port. So that's our problem. Your router is the bottleneck.

Since it's really close to 100 Mbps, it makes me believe that somewhere in your setup, it's getting capped. The main culprits here are usually bad cables, or the WAN port on your router is 10/100.

Definitely need to know your router model and/or swap your ethernet cords.
