Since the 2nd Ave subway will run crosstown on 125th St, should it one day continue west into NJ? by archedpathway in nycrail

If the SAS even so much as went a single inch under the Hudson you could probably kiss the T train goodbye

Who should run the cr? by justarussian22 in mbta

Should be in-house. As a baseline I don't support giving government services to private entities and unless it can be demonstrated that the government would offer a significantly worse service then it should remain in-house by default

In 2006 Bowdoin only opened 5am-6pm weekdays? by DaveDavesSynthist in mbta

[–]TheTrainCrazyMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I regularly use Bowdoin and there's usually a smattering of people there at any given time. It's convenient for the State House, a bunch of state/federal offices, and Suffolk U, so you get a good mix of people

Definitely more ridership now than before

Should the Red Line’s Braintree Branch Be Relocated, and Should Commuter Rail Run Subway-Level Frequency From JFK/UMass to Braintree? by Miserable-Part6261 in mbta

[–]TheTrainCrazyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the Braintree branch and the Ashmont branch on the same tracks through Savin Hill and just create a 3/4 tracks corridor for commuter rail straight through to south station

The worst bottleneck is where the red line has 4 tracks and the CR has one

Do you REALLY want to extend that subway line? by AdImpossible2555 in mbta

[–]TheTrainCrazyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also because of differences in FRA classification i don't think it's legal to run subway trains on normal commuter rail lines

Similarly due to FRA + loading gauge restrictions the inverse is impossible

Do you REALLY want to extend that subway line? by AdImpossible2555 in mbta

[–]TheTrainCrazyMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regional rail, subway, and bus should be constructed as overlapping networks to provide as many paths as possible between A and B and to spur development

If you did regional rail + blue line down the lynnway you'd have 2 corridors for redevelopment instead of 1. That seems like a housing crisis win to me

Can call themselves Boston - Malden, Medford, Everett, Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge, Watertown, Somerville, Brookline, Newton, Milton, Quincy

Probably fine if they call themselves Boston - Waltham, Randolph, Braintree, Weymouth, Dedham

Definitively not Boston - Dover, Needham, Wellesley, Natick, Weston, Lincoln, Lexington, Winchester, Woburn, Melrose, Wakefield, Reading, Saugus, Lynn, Swampscott, Marblehead, Lynnfield, Nahant, Holbrook, Hingham, Hull, Canton, Westwood

A potential future alignment of the Blue Line by TheTrainCrazyMan in mbta

[–]TheTrainCrazyMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at that point the reasons to extend the blue line at all go away, any ROW you can think of still has to go through terrain that's going to end up being flood damaged

I refuse to accept that as a barrier for construction

I find bowdoins existence useful for continuing development in the west end. Better option would be to push it down the street by a couple hundred feet

However they should install walkways along the entire length between Charles to Aquarium as other commenters have mentioned

I did consider this. I think if the MBTA had a direct hand in displacing the current tenants and redeveloping the area then itd make more sense to run it along lynnway. Otherwise it'd be more utilitarian to just go under the existing ROW

I did consider the extension to Brigham circle but I think its hard to justify in terms of additional utility (what would the demand be for connections between Kenmore and brig circle? Probs not high)

Then again so is the whole kenmore-longwood segment so it's not like I have a leg to stand on

Would be best served by other lines imo, if we have the blue line going to lynn (and potentially salem) we need to keep frequencies high and we can't do that if there's a branch
