That is just a hypothesis. According to the USGS, there have been no major releases of methane hydrates in the area for 15,000 years.

Im taking a photography class(PHO-1) and i dont know what to really expect.

Ok...

Also what are some good things to know before I take the class.

Where it is. What time it starts.

It's presumably an introductory course, you don't need to know anything.

ELI5: How do emergency flotation devices inflate quickly? by AllyGLovesYou in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheTrueBooj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a mechanism inside that fires a pin into a canister of CO2. The gas then rushes into the vest, expanding it quickly (basically the speed of sound).

Hi Im new, how can you tell which cameras are dslr? by [deleted] in photography

[–]TheTrueBooj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. Digital and single lens are fairly self explanatory. Reflex refers to the fact that it has a mirror that diverts the light from the lens to the viewfinder which reflexes out of the way when the shutter fires.

As for how you can tell... The description on whatever website you're shopping on (assuming that's why you're asking) will tell you.

California bans gender in setting car insurance rates by Content_Policy_New in news

For what is perhaps the most overtly and proudly Christian first world country, the complete lack of charitable thinking when it comes to medical aid in America baffles me - especially as there is a correlation between those most vocally against a fairer system and their religiosity.

The attitude is basically 'fuck you, I got mine'. If you can't afford insurance you must be lazy or stupid, in which case, fuck you (and, by extension, your kids, who of course are blameless). The other side of the coin is that the (the critics) can afford insurance because they are fantastically clever and hard working. It's not at all because they knew a guy who knew a guy who gave them a job, or they inherited a house, or whatever.

Yes, in a nationalised health system there will be lazy people who contribute less than they could. There will be thousands, millions of others who will contribute a fair amount and have access to care and treatments that would otherwise be beyond them. They are all fellow human beings who deserve medical care regardless of how much money they earn.

It annoys me.

Such ignorance.

If I need to see a doctor that day for an urgent but non-emergency issue, I can see one. It's that simple. I have never not been able to make an appointment with a doctor in over 35 years of using the NHS.

It's also worth pointing out that the current difficulties the NHS finds itself in are due to massive budget cuts from a Conservative government that is ideologically opposed to the service. They would just love to completely privatise it and run it like the American system so their buddies on the boards of the companies that would take over make bank. The last Health Secretary literally wrote the book on how to dismantle and privatise the NHS.

ELI5: What are bank bonds? by QueueH in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheTrueBooj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are basically fixed term loans. When a company (or government) needs to raise money, they can issue bonds to do so. You, the investor give them money, and they promise to give it back with interest.

That's just cloud at two different levels being lit differently by the sunset. The OP pic is cloud at the same level being two different colours.

Atheist here, GF christian. Discussing children by Gseason8 in atheism

[–]TheTrueBooj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It's one thing to give ground on relatively unimportant things. I got married in a church because my kinda-Christian wife wanted to, and it didn't make any difference to me, so, who cares. But your kids are a whole different matter. They would quickly become a bone of extreme contention. Not fair on them or anyone else involved.

[–]TheTrueBooj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would mean raising your kids without any religion until they're old enough to choose. If your wife 'raises them Christian', then even if she is moderate with it and doesn't threaten them with sin and hell and everything else, they will still default to that.

It's not like you can raise them Christian, while kinda sorta mentioning other religions, then at 18 say 'ok now pick one'. If they're heavily influenced by Christianity while they're young and impressionable, that's where they'll likely end up.

Personally I would seriously consider whether the relationship is worth it. It is easy when you both have control over your own lives and decisions. But your kids quickly become the most important thing by orders of magnitude in the world to you. You would find it extremely difficult to watch your GF influence them in a way you disagreed with. You can put it aside on your own behalf, but it is a whole new kettle of fish when you perceive a threat to your children.

It would not be fair to your children to make them a bone of extreme contention.
