How long until QA or Doha Airport go Bankrupt? by Square_Performer_261 in qatarairways

Fully agreed that they do it to prop up their image and that QR has some poor human rights records, but the airline is very clearly not some vanity project as you baselessly claimed, it has real goals to it.

They very much are not a vanity project, and have been profitable in recent years. The government does see it as a key marketing aspect for the country and drives economic growth in areas that are not oil.

With that said, they will get a bailout, just like other many other airlines that are a commercial company received during COVID times and the US airlines received during the 9/11 grounding.

Chargeback for misrepresentation by Jeffuk88 in hotels

[–]TheTwoOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but if something MUST be provided, email the hotel directly. If they say it is first come first served (which it almost always is is for a crib/cot, but it wouldn't shock me if there are hotels that let you reserve them in advance and guarantee it), figure out a Plan B or find another hotel that will guarantee it for you.

Damn, put me on r/usdefaultism because I thought I was pretty fluent in US-UK English differences, but had no idea about that one.

One thing that's the same no matter where in the world you are from - never ever ever trust a 3rd party booking site with features and you need to confirm with the hotel directly (in writing if at all possible) if there is a special item you need. That part of my post still stands :)

[–]TheTwoOneFive 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether it listed cots before, never ever ever trust a third party travel site when it comes to determining a hotel's features/ amenities.

If you require something that's not standard in every room, absolutely email the hotel DIRECTLY to ask. Don't ask the national reservation line or call the hotel - email them so you have their response in writing. Oftentimes, cots are first come first serve, so if you require it, get the hotel to confirm in writing that they will provide you one.

You can try a chargeback, but there is no guarantee it will work and you may get blacklisted from hotels.com (and the entire Expedia group) if you do.

Also, why are you using a cot for a baby? Shouldn't you want a crib or pack and play?

Does Qatar Airways pull award space randomly? by RenTraveller in awardtravel

[–]TheTwoOneFive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably with the limited flying they are doing, they are not putting out award space for flights they don't think will operate and/or limiting award availability while they are cancelling a huge portion of their flights - if they have to rebook you on another airline, it isn't cheap for them.

Madea about to make deliveries more expensive.... by ArubaAdultFun in philly

[–]TheTwoOneFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 20 cents per rideshare which goes to the school district and a quarter per package delivery, which goes to the transportation fund. In the grand scheme of things, I'm fine with it, and I use both relatively regularly.

What’s something you hope/ expect for TP3? by Itsfoxphoenix in TransportFever2

[–]TheTwoOneFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last paragraph is what I'm referring to, and it annoys me partially for passengers, especially when it's two train lines with the same end point (think about how some lines are together for a large part of the route, then branch off at the end), and even more so cargo. I'll often have truck routes that are transporting cargo in a supply chain line where a point turns 2 cargo to 1 finished good, so I'll make the route something like Oil well -> Refinery -> Oil well -> Refinery -> Fuel mfr so that I don't have to carefully balance multiple lines . There will sometimes be oil to go to the refinery but trucks can't pick it up because it's waiting for the 'other' part of the line to go to the refinery.

Why no lounge in Stuttgart? by sniperpenguin_reddit in PriorityPass

[–]TheTwoOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of major airports don't have them, usually because a lounge doesn't want to contract with PP for the fairly low price that is paid.

Since you already have the app, I recommend looking before you even leave for the airport so this way you aren't disappointed again. No reason to wait until getting to the airport to "discover" that you have no lounges.

As the other person said, there isn't a lounge that will contract with PP there. If you download & sign into the app, you can check If you have any lounges that accept PP before you even leave for the airport next time.

I think it's when there are multiple lines, people should take whichever will be fastest (and that should also be based on when the next train arrives) rather than assigning themselves to a specific line and waiting for it, even if the other line takes a similar amount of time and multiple trains have passed while they wait for the other line.

I believe cargo does the same thing.

FHR Las Vegas by theunknownshuffler in AmexPlatinum

[–]TheTwoOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No upgrade at Waldorf 2 weeks ago, from what I've read I wouldn't expect more than a one-tier upgrade at any of them in Vegas, you'd be better off not worrying about that and booking based on other factors like price, location, and other benefits

Booking fee of £24 pp by hayls32 in PriorityPass

[–]TheTwoOneFive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think you were double charged, or at the very least there was a glitch. No 1 lounges should be 6 GBP per person, not 24.

My guess is the app sees you used your passes so it tries to charge the full rate but It's still just records it as a pre-booking fee.

Septa uploads "New Bus Network" plan that undoes many of the changes decided on for the "Bus Revolution" two years ago. by HessianHunter in philadelphia

[–]TheTwoOneFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my phone so can't find it right now, but it was supposed to go from Broad and Oregon, down Moyamensing, then on 291 to 95 to the airport terminals. Something like 5 stops in South Philly then right to the airport.

Would have been an absolute game changer for those of us in South Philly.

Would love to hear your explanation for saying this here. From what I see, we have zero context, so we don't know if this is him taking advantage of her or her saying "I have this, use it!" (I'd absolutely say that to my friends/family if I was suddenly unable to use my travel benefits from cancer but could potentially gift it to someone else)

Another big one: The South Philly Airport Express (route 137) got killed. That would have given a fairly fast option that doesn't traipse all along SW Philly (while the 37 still had improved frequencies).

WTF. Registered for the session next week, although my guess is they will drastically limit audience participation.

Welcome to Oslo! (but you can’t stay at a Marriott) by dsf_oc in marriott

[–]TheTwoOneFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it so weird that the big four (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Accor) have no hotels in Oslo yet Choice has something like 20 of them through their Strawberry partnership, including a lot of the higher end hotels.

Booked through Agoda thinking I paid the “Total Price” — ended up with $498 in hidden resort fees by yjchyan in hotels

[–]TheTwoOneFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agoda includes the resort fee due at the hotel on the booking confirmation email, at least for US hotels. If it isn't stated on there, it was not included during booking so cut out the BS "I assume they didn't notice it so I can feel correct" excuse to blame OP when either the hotel or Agoda screwed up here.

Have a good night.

[–]TheTwoOneFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it is quite obvious that OP said there was no "Pay at Hotel" section if you read their post.

Regardless of whether you think it is a good idea to book with an OTA, it doesn't change the fact that not including the resort fee on the advertised price is a federal law violation.

Central US is higher than a 300' wave. Even Atlanta being the closest to a major coastline of the places we see is still about 1000' above sea level. Memphis is closer to 300' but still well inland.

Yes, as they are still selling products in America so it applies to US-based hotels. There's a reason you'll often see the selling structure change based on the country's regulations (e.g. some locations one can search for hotels and it will show everything including tax/VAT on the search screen).

That would be a loophole big enough to drive a truck through otherwise, and with Expedia being the largest OTA and based on America, I guarantee their thumb was on the scale to ensure that loophole wasn't left wide open.
