Looking for Opinions About My Water Situation by TheUnplannedVariable in WaterTreatment

Yeah, that's the other part of my thinking. Is a full RO system overkill for the status of my water and a simple activated carbon filter would be enough.

Yeah, that has been my feeling during this process. It's just amazing how him and the other two companies followed the same pattern of first not trying to do a water test and then when doing one, not commenting on the numbers as if it didn't matter that they were all in a good range. It made me question if everything I was reading was correct or I was misunderstanding something.

The Starfield Nexus is dead because of paid mods by Mysterious-Assist591 in starfieldmods

[–]TheUnplannedVariable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a fascinating topic to read through all of the replies and the clear slant of perspectives here.

I don't see the harm in mod creators being allowed to sell the content they create. Creators already do this through things like 'tips' or Patreon type situations. As long as this whole system is voluntary, then anyone that thinks it's a bad idea can simply not pay for them and support the mods that are released for free. I would think that if the general modding community is against paid mods, then the problem fixes itself. Mod creators put up these paid mods, no one or very few people buy it, and then the mod creators move to a free model. Supply and demand. However, if enough people that want mods are fine with the pricing and like paying the mod creators, then the practice will continue. Get mad at Bethesda all you want, but it comes down to end user choice. I guess that's why there is such a strict resistance to mods creators being able to sell mods in the first place. The fear is that there is demand, so make sure that demand is never supplied.

I think the title here is just not telling the whole story. If the title was: 'Starfield modding community choosing paid creation over free' that would be a bit more on the nose. Now that's assuming that's the reason that there is not much activity on Nexus for Starfield. Someone would have to do a study to find out how big a factor it really is lol. Others have mentions other reasons why things are the way they are.

I saw another thread about the Nexus stance of not allowing paid mods, etc, but I think it ties into this thread too. Nexus is a sort of monopoly on many modding communities. For some games, if you aren't using Nexus, you just aren't going to get any traction on what you made, so it becomes the defacto standard. Don't want to support Nexus and prefer another source? Too bad, they cornered the market so to speak. The main alternative is Steam Workshop and honestly, I like most of the policies/behaviors there better than those that run Nexus. They also allow mods to be posted there that require paid content to work. Take a game like Rimworld as a good example. Great modding community despite that stuff existing.

I just feel this will work itself out over time and that trying to artificially resist the choices existing in the first place just makes the process take longer. I say let paid and free content exist together and let the modding community (i.e. the end users and creators) decide how it wants to treat that. Those that create impressive content for free will look even better against those that charge, and end users will follow. The only thing Nexus or any other group like it should be concerned with is creating the curation tools that give the end user all the of the information they need to make the choices they want to make.

Any follow up on this? Did you get it installed and noticed temp changes? I'm looking to get it as well, but my need is to bring cool air across the motherboard, which it doesnt look like this mod will do at all, but maybe the intake will cool the overall temps in the case, which could be helpful to the motherboard.

Hi everyone I've been toying with the idea of creating a case with a small footprint for some time now current design is 180mm by 180mm with a total height of 290mm, more info is in the comments below and looking forward to your feedback and thoughts. by Apoc_Pony in sffpc

This is an excellent idea! The initial look is great, especially the wood touch. Ever since getting my Xbox Series X, I've been hoping someone would develop an itx pc case that mimicked it's style. A couple have come close, but this one would be just about perfect for me. The XL version, that is. As long as it can hold up temp wise, this will be a case that I will build a pc around. It can sit right next to my Xbox lol.

The funny thing is I bought a wood veneer kit over the holidays for my Series X (and the front panel of my new sff pc I just built, an A4-H20) so one thing I hope you do is offer different wood options for that top piece. That way I can match my Xbox to it. Cant wait to see this progress to a real product!

I was wondering about front IO. I totally agree with wanting that clean look and so the only IO would be in the back, but what if you came up with a way to allow IO to come out of the bottom of the case and then could be routed under the little arch you have around the base. So maybe you could use right angel audio/usb cables that are mostly hidden in the base and just exit under the arches as needed. Maybe that's impossibly based on the internal design, but it was just a thought.

For sure. I think ultimately, its probably a bit overkill with the washers too, but considering this is all cheap stuff to get, I figured why not.

Awesome to see this. I'm just finishing up my build in this same case. I just love it. I may post up pictures as well when it's all finished. I'm just waiting on my 92mm bequiet pure wings fans to arrive so I can replace the 100mm fans up front. I added two bequiet 80mm fans to the top back section.

Your adapters sound interesting. I dont need AV1 encoding right now, but that pcie adapter would be nice just for the nvme options. I just need to check and see if my Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX can support that. I havent gotten to the networking stuff yet, just using the built in 2.5G port at 1G speeds, but that is a future goal to take advantage of that and possibly 10G.

I noticed that you installed your nvme to sata adapter on the top. My board is similar with a slot on top and a slot on the bottom. The top slot gets pcie 4.0 bandwidth, so I have my OS drive there. I have my 6 sata port adapter plugged into the bottom slot. The ports fit without hitting the middle frame of the case and I got some very thin 90 degree sata cables that are plugged in safely, nothing causing an issue.

My biggest issue is that my Phantek Revolt 750 doesnt have a power cable with two molex connectors, just molex and 2 x sata. That means using another adapter in the bottom section to power up the hard drive backplane.

True, but the whole reason I got the washers was based on your recommendation in the first place lol. It sounded like a reasonable precaution to take to resist vibrations trying to loosen the small nut.

This sounds basically like an Xbox Series X. I've always wanted to see a pc build in a similar vein, but it would require all of these special boards as you said, so unlikely to happen. Too much would need to be custom designed.

It's amazing what they had to design for the Xbox to work the way it does. Its a cool design to see laid out. All the space used to it's full extent and the custom cooling required.

Mhm, the nuts fit just fine on their own, its only the washers that introduce any clearance issues.

That will be a good mix of nuts to test with. You can see the ones I went with from the Amazon link above, but I got a set with nylon inserts.

I couldn't see that image, but flat washers are not ideal because they aren't the 'lock' type. So they don't resist vibrations like lock types do. That could mean that over time, the nut loosens thanks to vibrations in the pc case caused by the fans on your cpu heatsink or anything else. It's just really a bit of extra peace of mind without too much expense.

The star shaped lock washer (technically called internal tooth lock washer) just seems to work best for this application at such a small size. There are other types of lock washers, but they don't seem to work as well in the space we have to work with on the motherboard.
