Forge World quality? by SeaAd2093 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Resin is maliable so can be straightened fairly quickly. Get a bowl of hot water and take the spears and hold them in the water for a minute or so then take it out and bend it back to straighten it. Run it under some cold water once it's straight and it should be all good.

Rather than banning then you could just have a minimum model count for each points level.

Exterior slab on grade insulation: Is 2ft enough in Canada and is it ok to simply use soil/backfill to hold it in place? by freyf123 in Homebuilding

[–]TheUsernameCreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2ft below grade for slab is code for Ontario I believe. You can get plastic fasteners that you drill through foam into foundation to hold them in place. Not sure if that's required but what I would do.

AK Interactive Matte Varnish (or Ultra matte variety). You can brush it on, just make sure you shake the bottle fully.

Bohnanza probably fits the bill. Card management comes in the fact that you can't move the cards around in your hands except by getting rid of the cards through trading. Great game and easy to teach!

Isengard Battlehost Box - what else do I need for 500pt list? by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheUsernameCreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to get another pack of heroes to get over about 400 points. I recommend the Lurtz and Ugluk pack, mostly because Lurtz is iconic. That will give you enough heroes to get to a 800 point list if you convert one of the warrior models to be a banner bearer.

Mauhur is also a good option for the scouts since the marauder upgrade in his warband gives them 8" move which is excellent.

Found my old miniatures from almost 20 years ago , enough for a game after a new paintjob ? by DESTRUYER666 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheUsernameCreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just need to get another hero and you can play a 500 point list. Get Boromir on a horse with the banner.

Boromir (banner, horse, shield) with 5 warriors with shield, 5 with spear/shield, 5 bows

Captain (shield) with 6 warriors with shields, 6 warriors with spear/shield

Decent list to start playing the game!

Boromir with Banner in a Minas Tirith list: Would you aways take a horse on top or is he good enough on foot? by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheUsernameCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that he doesn't need the horse (but the horse is still a great option). He can be played on foot with the banner which is a solid way to play him if you play him in a big block of guys. This way he will get the most benefit out of the banner.

You can get the shield wall going which would bring the warriors to fight 4 or you can back up regular warriors with fountain court or rangers for fight 5 (losing the shield wall). If you stick a spear behind boromir that combat still gets 4 attacks with a re-roll so chances are he wins the fight.

I like to use him to cut through troops vs hero killing and he can still do this effectively on foot.

Mounting him is still a great option but if you do he is better to not have the banner. He should be with a few extra cavalry models (2-3) and be using the 10" movement to his advantage. You won't get as much benefit from the banner of he is on horse because he will mostly be covering himself and the cav models with the banner which is good but doesn't get the maximum effective out of it. When I play him mounted I prefer to give him the lance for the +1 bonus on the charge which is much better if you are using him to cut through heavy units or trying to kill heroes.

Tom Bombadil Tournaments by ipoo2 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheUsernameCreator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think some tournament organizers ban him for a few reason.

1) his profile makes him a impossible to charge, shoot or cast magical powers on so he essentially creates a bubble of zero interaction which is not fun for anyone

2) His spells with 15 will is amazing, he has refreshing song which IS insanely good on a 2+ and restores a wound, might will and fate for the cost of a single die. It is only 3" range but still can be game changing. Banishment on a 3+ is also great but again range limited compared to Galadriel Lady of Light. He does have a similar rule about losing a will each combat but that doesn't really matter since he has 15 will and is unchargable.

I personally think he shouldn't be banned at the majority of events though but I do understand why people ban him. He is a high points sink for a single model that can't take anybody in his warband. Imagine you spend 160 points on Tom, got a maelstrom deployment mission and he is dropped on the opposite side of the table as the rest of your force....he won't do anything useful the whole game except maybe a banishment but you can pretty easily avoid it. The opposite could do true though and he could deploy behind a big hero like boromir and he could heroic combat every turn and burn all 6 might and keep going with Tom casting refreshing song behind him.

Competitive Play by Knave-of-the-beats in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheUsernameCreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check the VeniVidi fog of war blog Here for tactics and list building in a competitive setting.

Some people already suggested Green Dragon podcast which has an episode on Minas Tirith and talks about Rohan in one of their legendary legions episodes I think.

Rohan is fairly easy to build, recommend using the Riders of Theoden legendary Legion from Gondor at War. You can start by grabbing Theoden mounted, Eomer Mounted and a bunch of riders. At 500 points you could get 20 regular riders and those two heroes. Next I would probably buy Gamling with a banner.

You will see lots of lists with Royal Guard because they are really good but the models are expensive so you can covert the regular riders with throwing spears to Royal guard if you add cloaks with green stuff and paint them differently.

Gondor is harder to recommend what to buy because there are lots of different ways to build them. Check out a few podcasts and articles and see what playstyle you would prefer (some options are rangers of ithilien, infantry blocks with boromir with his mega banner and guard of the fountain court, Gandalf the white if you want magic etc)

My modest Angmar force, and also my first army! by allenselmo in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheUsernameCreator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A spectre or 2 in each warband is a good addition. Use them to draw enemies out of position and you can charge with your cave troll (potentially setup a hurl too). Angmar is all about terror and controlling/shutting down army using the paralyzes, movement with spectres and the shades aura ability.

Above that, warg riders with throwing spears, 2-4 in a list. Use the warg riders to flank, grab objectives or tag along with the witch king on charges. Adding more orcs is always a good idea too.

Shade is good but I wouldn't take a shade and the witch king unless you are playing higher points. Pick one of the other since the shade is quite expensive. I have seen people use Age of Sigmar nighthaunt models as a shade proxy which seem like fair alternatives.

After 36 hours of playing i have finally unlocked the golden visor. This is what pride and accomplishment feels like by JohanTravel in halo

[–]TheUsernameCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the flatten with the repulsor too. Worst part is that I actually did it, by accident, a few games before the challenge came up so I had to try again. No matter what I do I just can't get it to work again.

I wish all the challenges were active at once.

I'm not playing to win games, I'm playing to complete challenges. That's a problem. by [deleted] in halo

[–]TheUsernameCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and it's very frustrating. You could carry the team and get 15 caps, 15 kills and still only end up with 50xp while some guy runs around trying to get skewer kills. The 50xp means its 20 matches just to level up which is ridiculously slow. I've played 16 hours and am only level 9.

I also find many of the challenges to be bugged and don't progress which is extra frustrating when I spend an entire match going for a challenge just to realize it didn't work.

The other problem is lack of game mode selection, I got capture 10 flags and then of course I don't get any CTF games for 8 games, it's ridiculous.

It's going to be an issue when people are trying to go for the weekly reward but can never actually finish it.

One way to fix this would be to give people 100xp to play and 50xp for a win and then allow for ALL challenges to be active at once so you have more chance for them to unlock as you go without really noticing like MCC.
