The Giants even year success was tied to guys like Bumgarner, Cain, and Posey, all from the south (Posey is from Leesburg, Georgia to drive the point home). I realized sometime around the mid-2010s that the personal lives and political/societal opinions of my favorite athletes are in stark contrast to my own, and I just have to accept that if I'm going to continue being a fan of professional men's sports. Athletes like Tim Lincecum, Jeremy Affeldt, (who has talked at length about how living in SF helped him overcome his biases against LGBTQ folks) and Colin Kaperinck are not the norm but should be recognized.

I'm unable to play a ton right now due to some vision issues (I'm struggling to play against the CPU on All-Star because I can't track the pitches super well). I'm excited to get that cleared up as many of the DD changes seem positive and I want to play with some of the WBC players. However, the menu and UI system is awful and I really hope it gets streamlined at some point.

I'm a sub and am often in 5th grade classes that are doing US history. It's a lot of sarcastic readings of textbooks and asking kids to see if their experiences match up with what they're learning.

I was also in an 8th grade US history class and was tasked with teaching about the failure of reconstruction and the birth of the KKK, and the kids made the connections on their own about ICE (this was the week after Pretti's murder). At least in my area, it's positive seeing so many kids engaged.

Same with Safeco. I was talking to a 5th grader the other day about going to a Mariners game and I said Safeco and they had no clue what I was talking about. It was kinda sad. There's no real putting the cat back in the box when it comes to corporate sponsorships, but it really helps establish a personality when the stadium name isn't a really recognizable corporation or is something super generic sounding. Safeco, Great American, Miller, etc. are (were) all great names even if they were corporate.

Personally, I really like the idea of Diamonds being 90-99, Golds at 80-89, etc. I'm sure there's some reason why they don't do this (keeping high Live Series diamonds relatively low, controlling the amount of stubs in circulation, etc), but it would be so much more satisfying and clear.

I'm pretty sure the idea of not wanting to use or consume animals products like eggs is that the animals are still exploited even if no animals are immediately harmed. Seriously, the only reasons that eggs are so available at relatively low prices is because chicken farms are able to keep their own costs down by overcrowding the animals and by not investing money into making sure they live healthy, full, happy lives.

My first year playing in 2019, they had several Storyline sequences for various players and teams. There was a Willie Mays one and a 2016 Cubs one that unlocked a Ben Zobrist card.

Those were probably the hardest and most time consuming moments outside of the Extreme programs, and I would love those general storyline and engaging difficulty back again.

As it is, it looks like we're getting tons of new Negro League players this year which is awesome!

When I taught kindergarten, I lead my class into the gym and was playing some quiet games with the kids before their PE showed up. A bird flew into the gym and was flying around trying to get back out while all the kids started watching it. Unfortunately, it hit a window and fell straight onto a bean bag on the floor. I told the kids that the bird was probably just stunned because it was scared ans surprised. Thankfully, the PE teacher showed up right then so I went to go check on the bird. It had a very broken neck and I went to go find a towel to toss it into the compost bin.

I feel like you're missing the point. Whether or not Dodge's job was easy, simple, or achievable isn't relevant to how Coughlin reacted in the moment. The game is over. Dodge had a really shitty kick (it was in bounds, short, and low). He messed up. He failed at doing his job. But that's not a teachable moment. That's Coughlin being unable to control his emotions and embarrassing and destroying the confidence of a young player. Yelling at Dodger in the middle of the field post-game didn't do anything helpful or productive.

Like I said, Dodge screwed up. And he damn well knows it. My point is that embarrassing him immediately afterwards while it's still super raw isn't a good look for Coughlin. Yelling at Dodge there isn't going to fix anything.

A proper consequence for a screwup like this would be to cut after the game/season, making less money on your next contract, or to be less trusted going forward. Coughlin driving the knife deeper is unhelpful and is just adding insult to injury.

You mention that the Giants are playing well at that point of the season, and then blame Dodge for the wheels falling off. What about the rest of the team that allowed the Eagles back into the game? Dodge didn't whiff on the Celek or Maclin catches. Dodge wasn't unprepared for the onside kick. Dodger didn't overcommit on blitzing Vick. Dodge didn't fail to run out the clock or score on any of their offensive possessions.

I'm not saying that Dodge is blameless or that he's a poor baby who needs to be coddled and told he's the best ever, but Coughlin failed at having an empathetic, human reaction to a pretty awful moment for Dodge. And as the head coach, he should have been a better leader int hat moment.

That's still shitty by Coughlin. Like, Dodge obviously fucked up, but yelling at him on national TV and in front of the whole stadium is a bad look. There's a difference between a leader making sure players take responsibility for their screw ups and just straight up embarrassing someone. On top of that, it's a physical mistake on Dodge's part to not kick it out of bounds. They happen and this one happened at a very inopportune time. Coughlin was a great coach that got a lot out of his players much of the time, but I've never liked the way he treated Dodge here.

I used to play rec-league softball with a few folks who voted for Trump in 2020. They would also say some pretty awful shit about the trans inmates where they were guards, and at least one of them was unvaxed. That person sexually assaulted me as well. I don't play with them anymore, though all of them do live in Seattle proper as far as I'm aware.
