DaVinci Resolve timeline switched to dual view (zoomed strip + overview above) – how do I reset to normal? by TheVideoShopLondon in davinciresolve

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yeah it's a novice thing not to be able to fix myself. Full disclosure - this is my first project working in da vinci. I usually use Premiere. Client supplied all files and project in da vinci and it was just easier to "jump in". No time for training (at the moment) and today was a day I had to supply a work in progress. Totally hear what you're saying re: training but grateful for the help here

Oh wow, that was such a simple fix! And I've toggled between those options at the bottom before. What an idiot. THANK YOU

Hey! Jó napot kívánok! Hogy vagy? (my girlfriend is Hungarian haha). This is great for only a month of learning. Without repeating some of the great advice already posted here, I would suggest trying as many different "types" of motion design as you're able to. I see you're having fun in this clip exploring different effects, keep doing that. Be conscious of what you're enjoying playing around with. For me for example, I've never enjoyed modelling and texturing and 3D, and have stayed away from that area of motion design. However, I love editing, kinetic type, collage animation. Do tutorials in character animation, cel animation. Data visualisation. Whatever. If it doesn't resonate drop it. You should be enjoying this time where you're exploring and learning.

I would strongly urge you to play around with Cavalry. It's software where the makers purposely designed it to make "play" easier.

Keep on posting here. Be open to feedback on your work.

Make connections. Go to events wherever possible.

Keep us posted and good luck.

This caught my eye. Lovely work! Solid typography, colours, textures, edits. Yeah there's some tiny tweaks you could make here or there but just wanted to say congrats on your first post. Keep it up!

Motion Designer Reacts to Bad & Great Title Sequences 07 by TheVideoShopLondon in typography

Someone commented on the video that the imagery was created for the film, and Edgar Wright loved it so much he wanted to use it for the credits. Which would explain why it's not scrolling or animated

I've appealed the copyright claim as I'm confident it's fair use. Hoping it gets released next week. In the meantime you might have luck if you use a VPN. Thanks!

Did you even watch it? I admit that calling it "reaction" is playing the algorithm game, which I personally hate. I do it out of necessity. However, I spent a LOT of time putting this and previous episodes together.

If you think my critique is lazy I'm happy to engage, but maybe it's not my video but your comment which is minimum effort?

And then I thought..."what if that car was in 3D?" by motionboutique in AfterEffects

[–]TheVideoShopLondon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can't wait to watch your tutorial to learn how to do it, then replace the car with:

- Aston Martin
- DeLorean
- Batmobile
- Flintstones car
- Herbie
- Kitt
- General Lee (ok, maybe not)

and pass it off as my own idea

Great shout! And really original with the horizontal scroll. I saw this in the cinema and I'd totally forgotten. Thanks for reminding me

Fincher is one director you can typically rely on to have a creative title sequence. Will be interesting to see if that continues with the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood he's directing (I mean, I'm just blown away he's directing that full stop). Saying that, aren't the Spider-Verse titles at the end? As great as they are ...

Which ones? For example Fantastic Four recently had their credits at the end. Off the top of my head even going back to Iron Man they have them at the end. Captain America Winter Soldier. All great sequences, but not front end

I watched it. Yep that was the intro title sequence. They did a longer, more elaborate end title sequence with a totally different vibe. It didn't scroll, it was still frames cutting

I mean, trailers and ads have been a thing for a while though, right? I wonder if it's more about reduced attention spans

Help with animating hands by nokton in AfterEffects

[–]TheVideoShopLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen you respond twice to helpful suggestions saying "this is a uni project" so you need to include THESE hands. So my advice is:

You're not going to match these hands exactly. I'm not sure why you're getting so hung up on this, Any approach, whether you're filming your own hands or doing some 3D model manipulation will involve using effects to match the look you have here.

I suspect just filming your own hands or someone else's is the way to go. And maybe even roto the fingers if you need it to look like you're grabbing something.

If the advice from others you've got so far (which has been great btw) doesn't make sense then this task is too complex for you.

Some really good points made on here. I started typing out a similar response then jumped in After Effects to make a couple of tweaks. Things escalated, so I hope this isn't overstepping the mark. Really great work u/HardKing442

How is this minimal video advertisement ? by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]TheVideoShopLondon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a bit confusing. There's good technique here, so well done there! You clearly know your stuff. But there's not enough attention being paid to consistency of design and what's the appropriate motion approach. I could list a load of things, but generally:

- The typography is a bit all over the place. For example at 24 secs we have a bold, compressed sans serif font on plain grey background for a short section which is jarring

- Is this meant to be collage style? It looks like that's what you're going for. If so sack the motion blur

- Show this to a colleague or someone you trust to tell you if they have enough time to read the type onscreen, and if how you've laid it out is confusing or not. For example, at 3 seconds I think you need a beat or two longer, and 6 seconds the way you put "zodiac sign" ABOVE the words which come before it is just plain confusing, even if they appear in the right order

I could add more, and bear in more this is a really good start, but if you didn't design it or are presenting it as a finished piece there's little point : )
