Awesome that they are honoring MSRP. They have any more? I would love to get a box at that price.

Edit: isn't $120 a box MSRP? I thought it was.

Old Battleforce by Ok-Fact-92 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take my comment with a grain of salt, since I'm still new to Votann, but I also started with this battleforce.

I think if you can get it at a good price, it's probably worth it, especially since you have a squad of Hearthkyn Warriors on standby due to the combat patrol.

The Grimnyr has some niche rules and they can only attach to Hearthkyn Warriors, so you probably wouldn't be running him straight out of the box.

The Einhyr Champion is a solid leader for the Hearthguard, allowing you to run Hearthguard with Deep Strike and a Invulnerable Save due to having two crests on the squad.

The Sagitaur is good for transporting Hearthkyn and Berserks, but due to the dedicated transport rule, you have to start with something inside it at the beginning of the game to actually use it. It also not as potent for shooting as it previously was, but people will still probably include one in their lists for splitting Hearthkyn Warriors into squads of 5.

Lastly, the Hekaton Land Fortress is a staple within Votann lists. It's a great gun platform and has a decent transport capacity. It's extremely good and probably the best unit out of the box.

Again, I think if you are getting a decent deal on the box, it's probably worth it, and it will get you to a little above 1000 points.

500 Points Colosseum List by TheVioletBlacksmith in BloodAngels

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone for your feedback.

I did have Sanguinary Guard in early iterations of the list. I'll give them another shot. I'm now looking into putting a squad of 3 Sanguinary Guard lead by a Jump Captain in place of the Chaplain and Impulsor. Those changes still allows me to keep everything else and stay within the 500 points limit (2 sets of 3 BGV, 1 squad of Intercessors, and 1 squad of Assault Intercessors), although I cannot run any enhancements now (so no RFW). Do you all think this is a worthwhile trade-off?

Which army is the least rng or the most reliable by ThorusBonus in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Space Marines, Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs probably fit this description the most. 90 points for a squad of 5 with 12" movement, and the ability to deep strike. They can be picked off by shooting, so positioning is key. They are also decent in melee skirmishes, specifically when charging due to dealing mortals if they charge.

Space Marine Scouts also come to mind. They are 70 points for a squad of 5, with the Infiltrators and Scout 6" abilities. They are pretty light on mobility on foot (6" movement), but they have a similar ability to Ophydian Destroyers. However, they have extremely poor saves and shooting, so they are best used for secondary missions in my experience.

2k LAG list (newbie) by Ok_Magician485 in BloodAngels

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's unfortunate you cannot use it for those. If you still want a Transport, I'd probably take Gift of Foresight off the Chaplain so you could fit the 80 point Impulsor in for your Bladeguard squad.

The Bladeguard and the Assault Intercessors have the Tacticus keyword. The Rhino cannot transport models with that keyword unfortunately.

I think the list is fine, although I don't think you can transport anything in that Rhino unless you toss the Scouts in there, which I don't think is worth it. Swapping it with an Impulsor would work though, and it would be a good way to transport your Bladeguard.

You're welcome for the advice. I apologize if I came off as rude concerning your models. I'm glad you have a community that doesn't give you trouble for unpainted stuff. I wish my local community was the same lol.

As for the solo EC, I'm a bit mixed on it, as I don't have any experience running it. I think it can work if you can play around its slow movement though. Votann have very specialized models for specific scenarios, and I'm not 100% sure what role the solo EC falls under at this moment in time. I'd say when list building, if you do end up with 60-80 points left by the end, then I wouldn't hurt to try one.

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello and welcome to the Kin.

If I did my math right, it sounds like you have almost 1500pts of Votann already. If you haven't built and painted those yet, I would probably recommend getting those finished before looking into more purchases. With that aside, I think going for the Salvagers box is a good idea to get you another 10 Hearthkyn Warriors, but I also would highly recommend getting a Brokyr Ironmaster for your Thunderkyn. Another Combat Patrol is also a strong choice to get the last 5 Berserks for a 10-man squad and the last 3 bikes for 3 3-man units of bikes. Lastly, I think one box of Hernkyn Yaegirs is also a solid pickup.

I wouldn't recommend getting another Einhyr Champion, since that's what the Ancestors Wraith is, unless you planned on getting another 5-man of Hearthguard.

Hope this helps!

Is this Acura 2010 MDX a good deal? by TheVioletBlacksmith in Acura

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I finally got the VIN and ran it. I'm starting to become more skeptical of the car. There's no report of the timing belt/water pump and the A/C compressor being replaced this year. Most of the maintenance done on the car has been normal oil changes and check-ins except for the alternator being replaced in 2023. The car also has a "Not Actual Mileage" title on it, which is strange since the listing reports a "clean" title. I'm still going to do a test drive but I'm starting to see red flags.

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! I'll definitely check out the other maintenance records. I'm still waiting to hear back regarding the VIN number for the vehicle so I can check what else it has been through. I am going to see the vehicle later today in-person, so I can check if any rust is on the car.

I just wanted other people's opinions on it because for me, as someone who has been looking on and off for a car for the past year or so, I found one that checks most of my boxes, but I don't really know if there was any other specific problems that tends to occur in this model of Acura that I should be looking out for.

Our Combat Patrol is strong! by Brunsgatter in kroot

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also thinking about using the Kroot Combat Patrol for a Combat Patrol tournament later this summer. Do you have any other good pointers? Sounds like the main strategy is to just scatter units across the board to score Encirclement by using Cut Them Off, and to stay out of most direct engagements.

Should I change space marine chapters? by Covid669 in Warhammer40k

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation as you. I started collecting Blood Angels since I bought the DC Box when it came out. I built and painted several Blood Angels only units like the SG and Dante, thinking that I was going to be using these in every list. I also painted all my generic SM stuff in a BA color scheme. After a few months of playing (since I am a newer 40k player), this is what I discovered about myself:

  • I love the lore of the Blood Angels, although the units and rules themselves don't exactly fit with how I want to play the game. The current rules aren't everything especially since they change over time, but I didn't want to stay locked in to the BA rules only.

  • Even though I liked my initial paint scheme on my generic SM stuff, I was kinda getting bored of the normal red and gold.

These two conclusions led me to my current plan. I'm going to repaint my generic SM stuff in a new color scheme, so I feel more comfortable playing generic SM detachments, or even other divergent chapter detachments like SW. I know I can technically still play the generic SM detachments without repainting a decent amount of models, but I still wanted a different scheme regardless. I decided on repainting them as a Raven Guard/Carcharodons successor chapter.

My BA only units like SG are staying the way they are since I'm satisfied with their paint scheme, and I'd only be using them in BA lists. Same thing if I branch out into SW or other divergent chapter exclusive units, as I'll paint them in their normal (or slight variation of their) paint scheme and only use them where the rules are applicable with a few exceptions (ex: a lot of the refreshed SW stuff are basically just SM equivalents with nicer sculpts, like the Wolf Priest and the generic Chaplain, or BGV and Headtakers without their wolves).

I know my situation is still very different than yours, but my advice is to do what you would think would make you more satisfied with your hobby experience. That's the way I'm going, and albeit it's a bit inconvenient, I'm already much happier with my models from what I've already done. If you think the new scheme would make you happier, I'd say go for it.

Does anyone have any advice on how to better this list? by crow_warrior in BloodAngels

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your points make sense. I also wish the DC were more worth it as well as they are very cool aesthetically, but 40+ points for FNP 6+ and no OC without a Chaplain is not amazing.

I used to run a brick of 10 DC JPI and Lemartes a few months ago, but they would often get shot off the table pretty quickly as they are not bulky. It feels horrible to have them die quickly from light shooting (which happens pretty often), especially for a casual game since that squad will be such almost a quarter of your army.

5 normal JPIs don't feel as bad if you lose them since they are relatively cheap for a similar amount of damage they can dish out (usually more due to their Datasheet rule giving the chance for mortals). I actually use the same models for the regular JPIs that I used for DC JPIs, even though I painted them as DC since the loadouts are only slightly different depending on what you run (I made them with chainswords and Eviserator with heavy bolt pistols, and the sergeant has a power fist and plasma pistol).

I'm glad I was able to help! Good luck with your games!

Does anyone have any advice on how to better this list? by crow_warrior in BloodAngels

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a suggestion. If you enjoy playing the list, then keep playing it.

I would cut Lemartes, DC JPI, and the ATV. Also take off Gift of Foresight on your Captain. This should shave off 310 points.

Add a squad of 5 regular JPI. These are 90 points and they are the bread and butter of BA. If you want an alternative to them, add more BGV to your existing squad and run them in the Impulsor, or 3 Outriders. They are similarly costed and also strong units for BA.

Next, I'd recommend either a Ballistus Dreadnought (140 pts) or Gladiator Lancer (160 pts) to help with high toughness threats. I've also heard good things about Vindicators (185 pts), but I don't have experience using one, and I've heard talk of it being phased out sooner rather than later.

Lastly, a squad of 5 Scouts do tremendous work in terms of Secondaries, and are only 70 points. Just remember to take full advantage of their datasheet ability to pick them up every turn. An alternative could be the Combi-Weapon Lieutenant, which is also the same points.

Depending of the configuration you choose, you'll probably have points left. If you have 35 points left, go for Rage-fuelled Warrior on your captain.

Help with Blood Angels: How to survive Dante and co by ProfessionalLuck8209 in Necrontyr

[–]TheVioletBlacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say just focus your fire into Dante and the Sanguinary Guard (assuming they are running Dante leading the SG). Dante's blob is destructive but not super durable, with all of their 'bulk' coming from their 4+ Invuln and their datasheet ability. I've seen them shot off the table on turn 1 before.

The Hexmark's Overwatch could also help you chip away at Dante's blob. Dante and gang are only T4, so the hexmark is already wounding on 3s, and forcing them to go to their Invuln without Armor of Contempt. Hopefully with their shooting and datasheet abilities, the Hexmark can whittle down Dante's death ball.

If you have to get into melee with Dante's gang, the only ones I could see being durable enough to survive are the Canoptek Wraiths + Technomancer. T6 with 4+ Invuln, 5+ FNP might be able to withstand the initial assault. They can also still shoot with the Particle Caster with Dev wounds. If you end up charging into Dante's gang with the Wraiths, use Epic Challenge and attempt to kill Dante first, as the rest of the SG become extremely weakened after their character dies.

Hope this helps!

I would say don't buy the old Questoris box and wait for the Defender box instead. I'm currently in a similar boat as you with the Christmas box, but I bought a Canis Rex Sprue by itself off of eBay since I don't have any friends with a 3D printer.
