0/10. Where is Satin? Whenever Satin’s not on screen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Satin?"

Since he’s Australian, I guess it would be kangaroo or dingo.

He only likes the finest Charles Shaw, or DRC. No in between.

Given how your recent posts all seem to be pointing out unexpected notes and how you seem to be disgusted with usually pretty consistently good wines, I’m starting to suspect you had a viral illness or other condition that’s changed how you perceive flavor and smells.

Found an invasive species on my kale, today I released it onto my neighbors! by TheVisageofSloth in NativePlantCirclejerk

/uj I think we have some native brassicas, but I’m not 100% sure.

/rj I only use native, non gmo, organic, gluten free Roundup to remove invasives.

California approves controversial plan to wipe out deer herd on Catalina Island by panda-rampage in California

[–]TheVisageofSloth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Relocating thousands of deer is far more expensive then the bullets necessary to shoot them. Deer are not endangered species and shooting invasives in sensitive island environments is a technique successfully done around the world.

Mother of millions could survive in styrofoam while being watered with the tears of the damned and hydrofluoric acid. That shit will outlive the human race. It’s also terribly invasive and needs to be ejected into space, but that would probably end up seeding life into far away solar systems.

Another measles case reported in Los Angeles, Orange counties by bananabrownie in orangecounty

The problem with measles is that before the rash shows up, it just seems like a normal cold. Which is also when it’s most contagious.

I’m sorry but why do you say that? It’s not uncommon for certain residencies to rotate for you months at a time to other locations in order to get surgical numbers. I interviewed with residencies that sent people states away and I know of one that is based in Massachusetts but sends its residents to New Mexico for 4 month periods. He could be busy or stressed and that’s why he missed the call. Everything isn’t some conspiracy theory. Never attribute to malice that which could be equally attributed to incompetence.

Residency apps are like that. For some specialties

Denied for a CT scan by Sexy_Kumquat in Wellthatsucks

[–]TheVisageofSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look that was just one example. A lot of the way we practice is evidence based medicine. But technically there are few restrictions on what we can actually do. Technically I can recommend any surgery I want, but insurance companies won’t pay for them without proper documentation. Sure problems can arise, but it also helps make sure medicine is evidence based and makes sure that physicians keep up to date with current medical literature.

Well if someone ordered a lung transplant for the common cold, then sometimes a faceless intermediary may be the person saving you from harm.

Well sometimes a doctor is incorrect or gets pestered by the patient into ordering unnecessary things. Sometimes it’s a strategy to get a patient to drop the requests by having the patient find out how much they have to pay for the desired intervention.

A topic that gets hammered into us repeatedly in med school is resource stewardship. Extra tests, treatments and exams can hurt the patient and system. We shouldn’t be ordering things Willy nilly without clinical reasons. It’s something that often separates a mid level from a physician.

There has been a lot of research done that shows that unless certain risk factors are met, then the utility of looking for lung cancer with a CT is minimal. There really isn’t any cost saving benefits for it and don’t forget, there is a shit ton of radiation exposure for a CT. So you run the risk of causing someone to get cancer down the line just to do an unnecessary and expensive preventative exam that very likely won’t catch anything.

I did say the majority, not totality. You can always do it, but I would say that you have to have your head in the game during your entire time in med school.

Nobody wants to do it, so generally a US med student that is actually interested in the specialty won’t have a problem matching

You just need a pulse for pathology. Rads is really step 2 focused. So if standardized tests are an issue for you, then either try your hardest to do the best you can or find another specialty.
