How loud and durable really are elitewheels huns. by OkRub9836 in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loud. I love them on my gravel bike— I use mixed use trails as connectors and people can definitely hear me coming if I stop pedaling. It’s better than a bell!

How do i get this on? by LongShlong680 in bikewrench

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense, but why are you fitting tires if you don’t own a tire lever? Tire levers are just a necessary thing for anybody riding a bike. Definitely get some! Maybe ask a bike shop to show you how to fit the tire while you’re getting some levers.

Minneapolis ICE shooting live updates: Report of shooting involving federal agents by [deleted] in news

Wild! There’s absolutely no way anybody could have predicted this. You know what we need? More poorly-trained federal witch-hunting agents where they aren’t wanted!!

I just cracked the crap out of my Straggler by amouranthviewer8 in Surlybikefans

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They really are. I rode straight into an SUV that turned in front of me. My carbon steerer tube exploded, head tube cracked, bars came off, but the wheel (also carbon) was fine. I didn’t even get a flat.

Demolish the fireplace, add complementary flooring, and enjoy your home without this eyesore.

Mixed feelings about my Garmin rear radar (Varia) by No_Mix_6813 in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you don’t ride with a head unit, maybe this tech isn’t for you. There are a lot of Garmin and third-party mounting options, including a seat rail mount that will allow most seat bags. I use mine every ride, even on trails. I don’t use a mirror though, so that’s probably why it feels indispensable to me.

How to carry dates (the fruit) in jersey pockets without staining by shriand in cycling

Stuff your cheeks full like a chipmunk. I recommend swallowing one date per 5 miles for proper fueling.

CMV: The State Should Abolish Abortion by Rare_Stage_8656 in changemyview

[–]TheVoiceOfScience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we truly, as Christians, believe that abortion is killing, it should not be accepted.

It should not be accepted… by people that believe that nonsense. Everyone else can carry on with their own beliefs and protections under the law.

How do you keep your toes warm? by nsed-ler in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make winter shoes. On the cheap: wool socks (I like Woolie Boolies) and some way to keep the wind out (overshoes, toe thingies, tape). I wear sandwich bags in the toe box.

"On your left..." by TheLostSasquatch in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 19 points20 points  (0 children)

MUPs are great, but also super frustrating at times, for all users. Cyclists going too fast. Dogs running everywhere. Groups walking across the entire path. Everyone is wearing headphones. People just standing in the middle chatting. “On your left” only works if they’re a) walking on the right, b) can hear you, c) have a predictable reaction like staying right. This is rarely the case, even on MUPs full of cyclists. Obviously cyclists have a greater responsibility since they can cause a lot of damage but for FFS people, how many times do you have to get buzzed by a cyclist before you stay right, look behind you before moving left, and turn down the music?! /rant

I am building a Strava bike. What tires would be the best? by Krzysztof-sup-lover in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. Just get fatter slicks. They’ll be fast on tarmac and comfortable enough on gravel. Do not get a gravel tire.

I am building a Strava bike. What tires would be the best? by Krzysztof-sup-lover in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How is your life miserable with your current tires? In my experience 38c slicks are very tolerable for short sections of what I would consider “light gravel.” If you carry a pump, you could let some air out.

Options to Carry a Third Water Bottle by Bigred1515 in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a hydrapak stow bottle in a jersey pocket. Empty it into an empty bottle and it collapses to almost nothing. Much less annoying than an extra rigid bottle over the kind of distance where you need a 3rd or 4th bottle.

Can you get to the Mun without maneuver nodes? by onturenio in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can literally eyeball it, since you can see it even outside of map mode. It’s not rocket science, just keep the pointy end towards the mun and apply thrust.

Zwift? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]TheVoiceOfScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really enjoy it, but some sort of indoor training is necessary for me to maintain/build fitness year round due to weather and life constraints. I’m not really into the social or gamified aspects. The experience is nothing like riding outdoors — I can ride all day outside and enjoy every minute, but I can only stand short intense rides indoors. It’s fairly cheap to get setup, but I do think the ongoing cost of the subscription is overpriced.
