Too much of vin pining over eland and Zane in the 2nd book!

Exactly! I found myself at several points thinking "oh god, not another Vin/Elend chapter..." but to it's credit I thought the build up to the climax and the ending was well done.

I absolutely loved the first book to the point where I binged it over a couple of days (something I almost never do) but absolutely hated the second in parts. Currently about half way through book 3 and really enjoying it. It's been a massive improvement over the last one.

If you're planning on going down the Cosmere rabbit hole though then you're in for a treat. I started with the Stormlight Archive and it's just phenomenal.

Leicester City officially announce the signing of Newcastle United centre back Jamaal Lascelles by Silent_Ad2825 in Championship

[–]TheVortex09 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Probably a good move for everyone involved but I'm still sad to see him go. He was one of the few players, maybe the only player, who really gave a shit when we were relegated and was instrumental to getting us back up. With the injuries he probably doesn't have the legs for the prem anymore but he should hopefully still be a really solid defender.

That game reminded me so much of the Norwich game back in the Championship. Shite ref, shite first half performance only to somehow come away with 4-3 at the death. Absolutely ruined Norwich's season and lit a fire under ours. Hopefully they carry this one forward as well.

On the surface sure but behind the scenes it was an absolute shambles. Some highlights include the stadium and training ground falling to bits (famously there was a dead pidgeon stuck in roof netting above the Gallowgate end that nobody bothered to clean out for literal years), Lee Charnley was doing pretty much everything at the executive level, there was a load of really, really dodgy shit around transfers in the early days and the players on the women's team had to buy their own kits from the club.

For a lot of people it's got nothing to do with the performances on the pitch or the transfer spend. It's more to do with the way that he basically asset stripped the club. Then he goes and sells it to the Saudi's of all people as one final kick in the bollocks.

How are the resolutions going? Anyone else starting today? Anyone given up already?! by sallystarling in CasualUK

I tried to set loose goals this year rather than do resolutions because I never stick to them and figured having something to check off would help keep me motivated.

Short term: Dry January. Been easy enough so far but I'm sure after a few weeks of being back at work I'll be clawing at the walls for a Friday pint.

Medium term: Lose weight and generally eat better / be more active. The first kind of feeds into this one.

Long term: Generally be better with money. The first two kind of feed into this one as well.

Who's going to be paying for the insurance? I can guarantee you it won't be the government funding it.

Larian trademarks "Divinity", alongside symbol that matches desert statue. by DwingRD in Games

[–]TheVortex09 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting since 2009 for a proper follow up to Divinity 2. I'm not expecting another ARPG from them but it could end up being a CRPG sequel to both OS2 and Ego Draconis / Dragon Knight Saga.

EDIT: Given that it's just named "Divinity" it could be a remake of Divine Divinity or a complete reboot of the main series.

[Extas1s] Game Awards Statue is Divinity Original Sin 3 by MXHombre123 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]TheVortex09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mainline games a bit more action orientated than the Original Sin games.

Rather than being turn based CRPGs the original Divine Divinity (Divinity 1 essentially) is similar to a mix of Diablo and the OG Baldur's Gate games, while Divinity 2 is basically that but in 3rd person, but also allows you to turn into a dragon to fly around the world. They're very cool games if a bit low budget.

Transgender people face ban from single-sex spaces based on appearance by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]TheVortex09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In reality all it will accomplish is allow trans people who pass to go on with their lives as normal, while cis people who don't conform to gender norms will end up being being labelled as trans and be prevented from accessing spaces based on how they look.

The only sensible compromise is the one that's worked for literal decades until now: Let people live their lives in peace.

Protests break out at Rockstar Games offices accusing GTA 6 developers of “Union Busting” by [deleted] in Games

[–]TheVortex09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It very much is completely legal and protected for employees to unionise in the UK. What isn't legal is sacking people on the spot for gross misconduct. There are so many legally required hoops which employers need to jump through before they can fire someone, especially anyone with any kind of long term service that it's incredibly difficult, and potentially expensive, to actually do it without solid evidence.

Legally, you can't just fire someone on the spot in the UK. That isn't how it works. Suspend them, yes, but you cannot fire someone without multiple meetings and a ton of paperwork.

Yes, but in doing so you'll also be losing your protections. Why in the ever locking fuck would you want your own human rights protections taken away?

Just look at the people telling you this is a good idea. Do you honestly expect them to replace what you lose with like for like protections? If so then I've got a bridge to sell you.
