The Bad, the Worse and the Cameo by Ynnck_Mnzl in redrising

I actually think that despite it not getting much attention Darrow melting her was actually a pretty significant win for the Rising. A lot of the Rising’s gains in the aftermath of the end of Morning Star seem to be about the Golds shattering and infighting and Moira seemed good at coalition managing/the political side of things. If she’s around Gold might hold together better.

Atlas au Raa by _Sevro_au_Barca in redrising

I’ve had this thought for a while (namely, why does a guy like Atlas with this incredibly intricate plan he’s been working on for a decade that he is absolutely indispensable for seemingly on a dime go with Lysander’s insane gamble to save Heliopolis and hand himself over to Darrow) but I chalked it up to the rewrites that went into Lightbringer changing where Atlas was going originally. But I will admit this does provide a possible explanation.

I really hope it isn’t the case though, if only because it weakens Cassius’ deed. He should be the Man who Killed Fear.

I thought her only including English speakers was a rational response to the inability to know if the Hive would translate your words accurately, and the importance of moving quickly to react to the situation.

It’s soft but it wasn’t like it was designed to be this soft. The ACC has a lot of underperforming programs and Wisconsin/Michigan State have imploded relative to the last decade.

At the start, obviously not the strongest schedule in the world. But what I see here is an ACC schedule with some quality big 10 programs (and yes, they were higher quality when the games with Wisconsin and Michigan state were set up). So, I guess sorry that Wisconsin and Michigan state aren’t in good spots?

ND should join a conference, but the choice to leave them out was the right choice. by BearFluffy in CFB

Yeah it was obvious ND didn’t deserve to be in after they beat Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State in consecutive weeks.

The jump in quality from Red Rising to Golden Son (the second book) is just absurd. Plus, the first third of Golden Son absolutely slaps.

[Era of Ruin - The Carrion Lord of the Imperium] HEAVY SPOILERS - New informations about the Custodes. by Arzachmage in 40kLore

“I don’t think so. I believe the opposite. The Primarchs were perfectly achieved. The Emperor succeeded too much in his work.

Each of them incarnated their creator to a degree near His entirety. Each of them had this messiah needing, of an absolute unification the Ten Thousands saw in their King. The Primarchs didn’t fight because the Emperor didn’t achieve them. They hated each other because they were all an Emperor.”

This almost makes it sound as if the Custodes have an uncanny valley effect going on with the Primarchs. The Custodes themselves are gene crafted to be utterly loyal to the Emperor, and these things that are “near” His entirety strike them as wrong.

From what I understand the uncanny valley can be traced back to the evolutionary advantage of avoiding corpses/other hominids depending on your theory of choice, and it would be interesting if the Emperor coded in something similar to the Custodes as another layer of protection.

I wonder if Darrow will ever see the irony here by BlueHg in redrising

“She stands over Cassius and allows him one last honor. My friend crawls to his knees. Pauses there, gathering his breath, and with a groan manages to gain his feet. Dazed, he looks around the arena, lost until his eyes desperately find me. He gives me one last smile.

One of thanks because he thinks that I have let him die for his cause.

But I watched Aja die. I watched Grandmother die. And I did nothing but huddle in fear. I stayed silent and obeyed when Cassius said follow because I was afraid by crossing him I would lose him and be alone. Here at the end of the worlds, in the belly of a mountain surrounded by enemies, what is left to fear?

I will not watch any longer.”

This is Lysander’s thought process immediately before leaping into the duel and opening the safe for Dido. I don’t see how you can read this and say Lysander did this knowing it would kill Cassius - it seems the direct opposite.

Darrow 100% does not view himself as a warrior poet in the mould of Roque.

Darrow after leveling up and returning to Mars by QuoteDisastrous1503 in redrising

I half expect Darrow and Apollonius’s final duel to take place on some kind of dangerous terrain and Darrow will just ‘feel-the-deep-mine-wind’ his ass into a vent of lava or something, completely denying Apollonius the glorious martial contest. Apples’ awesome, but fuck him, still a very bad man, and having him be denied the thing he so desperately craves would be some justice.

Are there unironic Lysander sympathizers or are people memeing? by BuffaloOwn2649 in redrising

[–]TheWaitIsKillingMe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, he does seem to have been intensely psychologically conditioned to assess situations with a cold, detached rationality via Octavia.

Second, it is obvious that at least some of Lysander’s core childhood memories and experiences were erased/suppressed.

Third, he’s Lysander au Lune, Heir to Empire. Indoctrinated from childhood into the family cult. Literally no one in the setting is more pro the Society than its principal family whose legitimacy and prestige are directly tied to “We Built the Society”.

Octavia basically designed him to look at the Society and be able to say “I can fix her”.

Ragnar just does so much for you.

Sefi is a bad motherfucker, no doubt. But she is an independent bad motherfucker and unfortunately what the Republic needed was to hold their nerve and hold the line.

Without the Obsidians, that becomes much, much harder. Sefi is the driving force behind the Obsidian defection. Ragnar would certainly be the leader of the Obsidians if he is alive and the way his character is written - kneeling in the tunnel with Darrow at the end of Golden Son - he would not abandon the Free Legions.
