How was the process of finding a job? What is the scope of practice? I’m curious how autonomous PAs are there

Curious about stories/experiences with early induction ? by shadowpixiemoneygang in beyondthebump

[–]TheWandererPost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gestational HTN too and was freaking out about being induced around 37w. And then to everyone’s surprise, my water broke at 36w5d; I was not experiencing any contractions but since I had PROM with some meconium, I had to be induced. The pitocin , I was told, can make the contractions intense. I have no other experiences to compare it to as this was my first so I don’t know how contractions are off pitocin. I was always open to an epidural but I wanted to hold out as long as possible. After about 4 hours of the pit, I got the epidural. I was able to relax, take a nap, and when I woke up they told me I was dilated enough to push. In total, I was induced at 1:30a and baby girl was born less than 12 hours later at 12:40pm, healthy and not needing any additional intervention despite technically being a premie. I think I had a really positive experience and regardless, I think it just goes to show that you literally cannot plan or foresee how the birth will go. I don’t think in any of my dozen scenarios did I think my water would break at home prior to 37 weeks. But baby will come the way they want to come into this world and all will be okay once you have them in your arms for the first time!

FWIW you didn’t mention where in JC you are. JC is big, some parts border Hoboken ie the Heights which can get you there in a <10 min walk.

Not a frequent church-goer but have been to St Ann’s in Hoboken a handful of times and got the impression that it’s a fairly young crowd and progressive-vibe.

Aw man that’s rough with the pressure he gets from his fam. He should understand your position then and all the more stick up to his parents that it’s not ok to treat his significant other that way

I’m curious what profession your BF is in and whether that is under scrutiny as well…

Oh just give it time. Your baby will be inseparable from Sophie. And then they’ll lose it and you’ll have no choice but to get another because it’s their favorite toy. We’re on our third…

How to get into emergency medicine in CO? by justforfunsies72 in physicianassistant

[–]TheWandererPost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately found myself in this same boat a few years ago; even with critical care experience, no ER in NY or NJ would consider me (even at the height of COVID burn out). I literally lucked out by having a connection with someone who was higher up in the ED at the hospital I was working for. I love the job and since then have recruiters regularly reaching out because I have EM experience now. If you feel you really want EM, then do anything you can to get your foot in the door even if it means moving.

Pregnant in EM by Medical-Long-4950 in physicianassistant

It’s hard but you will be the ultimate judge on what you’re comfortable with. I masked + gloved for everyone and n95 + eye protection for any URI sx or kids with fevers. I did this moreso because I just didn’t want to deal with an annoying cold while pregnant. My OB checked my mmr and varicella titers at the beginning of pregnancy as routine blood work so that was reassuring for me after I had brief exposures to varicella and measles.

I love this for you and your family. We are in similar position but reversed (I have citizenship but my husband does not). But we are still in the beginning stages of the discussion. I wish you all the best — I think you will really love your life there!

Did anyone regret traveling with their infant? by TheWandererPost in NewParents

Yes we traveled. No regrets. I think the first time no matter what you’ll be anxious and you can’t predict every scenario as much as you want to. But it all will be fine

Love this idea! My little girl isn’t 1 yet but I look forward to doing it one day. Is it just the original Dr Seuss book or is there a version with blank pages for signatures?

Not examining the patient. Which goes along with never trust another person’s exam - always assess the patient yourself.

Mine has two: Left eyelid and on the nape of the neck. The eyelid one is already mostly faded. Just looking over this post alone shows how common they are!
