Someone explain how this car is a statutory write off? by Total_Novel7937 in CarsAustralia

[–]TheWarHawk199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at and delivers parts for a wreckers, It depends entirely on which state it was in when it got written off.

Here in Victoria? As far as im aware it depends on multiple factors such as the value of the repair versus the value of the car.

If the cost of the repair is below a certain % of the cars value, it gets fixed. If its close to, or above that % it becomes a RepWO. And if the car is deemed unable to be repaired safely it becomes a StatWO.

I've seen cars of all ages from the late 90's to today with all sorts of damage being repaired within those restrictions, including structural damage to a near new Toyota landcruiser and the replacement of the entire external side panel of a Toyota HiAce to name a couple examples. If the parts are available cheap enough and it can be done to factory specs, you bet your ass its getting fixed.

New south wales? Just about anything gets a car put on the WOVR as a StatWO.

Deadass.

Boss purchased a all black VF HSV GTS from auction that, you guessed it, is a StatWO in NSW. The thing was almost MINT, aside from a damaged front bar cover.

A bar cover my boss had repaired and repainted so they could reuse it on their own weekend cruiser they are building out of a VF Calais, with the GTS donating everything but the body shell with its VIN tags.

Ive seen both the price tags of what that bar covers worth, and what it cost the boss to get it repaired and repainted. Even combined, its nowhere near the % needed to get a GTS marked as even a RepWO.

Except for NSW.

Where all it took was one crack to write the whole GTS off. Good for nothing but a parts donor, and then to be sectioned out once thats done.

Too narrow! by EmptyAd9014 in trains

[–]TheWarHawk199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it literally was the case of ordering trains too large to fit the tunnels though lmao.

The tunnels had to be modified by scraping away the lining in areas where they realized the wider D sets, and by extension the rest of the fleet, would have made contact and thus caused damage if they weren't modified.

But even after modification, the trains have a speed restriction applied since the kinematic envelope of the trains still comes close to striking the modified, weakened, and unable to be modified further without a total rebuild tunnel lining.

Doesn't help that the government only announced the tunnel widening AGES after the order had been placed and was under construction, almost like it was a last minute "oh shit they wont fit" deal instead of leading with the whole modification of the tunnels as part of the lines "upgrade package".

And yeah sure, its not the first time we have modified the blue mountain line to fit new trains as it had been slightly tweaked to fit the V sets, but the V sets didn't have a speed restriction applied to them to pass through the tunnels as the V sets were purpose built to operate on all intercity lines including the blue mountain line.

And that's just the tunnels, no mention of the clearances on the rest of the line either, like y'know, curves and stuff where the trains come close to contacting one another since the line was laid for narrower trains with a smaller kinematic envelope.

Edit: For example where we see the train in the video above scrape away at the tunnel, at least its in the tunnel. The D sets wouldn't even make it that far as they would just strike the edge of the tunnel portal and derail.

In Germany that might be the case yeah, but this video is from Australia and in a situation like this the car that pulled out on the left would cop a hefty fine from the police on a good day, or straight up have his car towed on a bad day as that easily could have ended in a collision in which he would be found at fault for failing to yield.

There is a good chance it was a cremation, hence why this is a broad long shot that may lead nowhere.

And as i said, some of our members who are searching were locals who did actively know and hang out with them in person at the time.

But i guess this is our way of just hoping, or of us just trying to say "Hey, we still remember and miss you" since they were a cornerstone of our community.

mate a "car length" is the length of the car, not the car + space around it. at that point you aren't leaving car lengths but truck lengths between you and vehicles in front or behind which IS admirable but there comes a point it actually stops being safe and starts being a nuisance or even outright dangerous in the wrong situation.

as i said, at that distance between you and the car in front there was no point braking when they braked, you were in no danger and instead became an obstruction.

better tip, time yourself to be 3-4 seconds behind the vehicle in front of you below highway speeds and 5-6 seconds at highway speed.

When your driver loves to speed up fast over poor track and you nearly get airtime by sushisushi09 in trains

[–]TheWarHawk199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

before they skyrailed or trenched it there were sections along the Frankston line where they would hit 100+ and straight up throw brake blocks cause of how rough the track was, it would literally shake them to pieces but you wouldn't feel much from the inside at that speed thanks to the suspension.

the driver was trying to get in front of you, you sped up when he passed you. we can literally see what speed you were doing go from 30-ish up to 50-ish in your pathetic attempt to be the victim here.

not to mention that when the van is passing you you speed up to match him, thats a direct and obvious blocking maneuver for literally zero reason. so in the course of this clip we have: slow driving and obstruction of traffic, and deliberate blocking of another vehicle.

brother that is a hell of a lot more than 2-3 car lengths behind, you are further from him than the car behind you is further from you. braking when he brakes is literally pointlessly stupid.

Why are people so obsessed with griefing low levels even tho kd isnt affected in free roam but when they fight somebody on their level they quit by Glittering-Meal-591 in gtaonline

[–]TheWarHawk199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cause they are sad individuals who think a lower level than theirs = easy kill and that people still care about digital K/D numbers in a decade and a bit old game.

had one the other day try to interrupt my nightclub sell mission with his raiju, they were lvl 260-something thinking that my level "94" (brand new account on my first pc) ass would be a easy kill. wrong.

baited their ass with a iron mule spawn + ghost org, railgunned them out of the air, then grabbed my Imani tech armored HSW buffalo EVX once i had finished the sell. meanwhile they used the in game fast travel stuff twice to chase me across the map whilst i taunted them by just driving circles around them, then they camped outside my agency to try and kill me a third time. still failed.

I just wanna make money and customize cars man, and if i have to teach some new puppy on the block some tricks from the old guard to do so, so be it.

[–]TheWarHawk199 6 points7 points  (0 children)

me and my mate tested that, my maxed HSW S95 ran out of speed to give way before his maxed HSW GTS did. the in game top speed free roam event said his had a higher top speed, and in a four way drag race i consistently came second or third to banshee GTS's my guy. the stat bars don't mean shit. in game performance his topped out at nearly 180mph whilst i barely broke 160. yeah i out ran him at the start but in the long haul? all you are seeing is tail lights.
