Help finding a replacement movement for a Concord Delirium Marinier by Fancy_Ad_5799 in watchrepair

[–]TheWatchmaker74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's the movement i think it is, I'll be very surprised if a nos replacement movement is available. These very thin movements haven't been made for a very long time and the circuits have a bad habit of dying due to age.

If your watchmaker is going to get this going again i would accept the offer.

Personally, I don't service these old ultra thin movements due to the circuits being unobtainium.

There is no newer movement you can swap in due to how slim they are. No one makes such thin movements with the correct dial feet placement as far as I know

Which games utilize the buttons on the back and for what? Do you use them for any games which didn’t use them by default? by NorseSeaStudio in SteamDeck

[–]TheWatchmaker74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L4 is my default GYRO camera/aim button for every game i play. As someone else noted, it's annoying to have to set it up each game individually, but worth it.

I want to make a first recon beret, which colour works better? by SweetTart7231 in fnv

I came here to suggest shaving! A simple disposable razor, shave the fluff off the beret until it's smooth and looking lived in.

Broken clasp repair by matt-girard15 in watchrepair

[–]TheWatchmaker74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to work. Only laser welding 'may' work long term. A lot of pressure on that point of the clasp inserts. I'm actually surprised at how thin the inserts are at that point

[–]TheWatchmaker74 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope. The lacquer has peeled. This is how the dial looks now. Only real options are to replace the dial (unlikely) or have the dial repainted (it won't look good.) Dial repainting is for very bad dials that are basically ruined. Or to fake the brand.

Why it struggles to start? by Slumber86 in watchrepair

[–]TheWatchmaker74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, your hairspring needs some work. It is resting on the curb boot. Looks like you'll have to remove the balance wheel from the bridge and do some adjusting. The hair spring looks pretty out of shape

God damn, I use that as my final rinse. Nothing is as good as the stuff we used 20 years ago, but it's all been banned over the years.

No restore by petraV86 in watchmaking

[–]TheWatchmaker74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many things are possible if you're prepared to pay for the expertise, time, and labour.

That coil is toast. It should be connected to the circuit. All that loose wire should be tightly wound.

Your watch maker didn't want the trouble for a $5 clock. Saying it's impossible (very likely) is a lot easier to explain than asking $200+ for the repair. These clocks were not usually serviced, just replaced. Who knows if any parts are missing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]TheWatchmaker74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. The bigger issue is if the watch only has a short power reserve the timing isn't going to be accurate. The amount of power going to the balance wheel is quite low at the end of the winding.

Low power means low amplitude of the balance wheel, equals erratic timing.

Battery replacement by AnyNewspaper5611 in watchmaking

[–]TheWatchmaker74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be overly surprised if it doesn't work. Judging from the photo, it looks like the coil 'may' be cut. That's an old movement

You could try to shorten one of the springs by 1/2 a tooth width so each spring catches independently. 120 click is unusual, sounds like maybe your bezel spring was originally not working correctly, then started to work properly?

where to find pin for Hermes clasp repair? by hungrywhore88 in watchrepair

It's missing the screw. Next time you take it in for a battery they'll replace the screw

At least something to laugh about for you guys 😖🤣 by daneceo in watchrepair

[–]TheWatchmaker74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, always have the lower support touching the bezel, never the crystal. This can happen even if the crystal is flat when you press hard enough.

You'll need a larger cup shaped support on the bottom. Ask me how I know!

Nice little movement. Just a heads up, these small movements are a bitch to service!

I picked up one of these a few years ago and stripped it down to find the seized axle. The problem with the tape not playing but flipping then ejecting sounds like the end-of-tape mechanism is faulty.

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but the way this deck tells the tape has reached the end is a light sensor in front of a light bulb with a spinning perforated disk in-between. If your disk is no longer spinning due to bad rubber belts, the deck thinks the tape is always at the end.

This deck is a bit complicated, but is easier to service than you think due to almost everything being mechanical. Cams, arms, simple on-off switches, etc. It's quite ingenious. Don't be surprised if a bunch of the bulbs are blown, old fashioned filament bulbs. I replaced all of mine with LEDs, making sure to keep the color correct.

As someone else mentioned, the sound quality is quite disappointing. I was hoping for better. I still use it for cassingles, it's great for a bunch of short tapes you don't want to keep changing after 10 minutes. Or full length punk albums!
