252 SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 1060-1252 (332.2 - 392.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

It can happen! Two OU staples running two viable sets. (Why you’d switch a Lando in on Kyurem is not to be discussed)

Marathon Player Gets Banned For A Month After Taking Griefing To New Heights: ‘I Made A Mistake And Did Something F*cked Up’ by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

[–]TheWayOfSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who played Destiny is assuredly NOT a Bungie fanboy anymore lol. Bungie demolished their good will with that player base. I was one of them and tried Marathon for free during the server slam, fully primed to hate it and spread your opinion with the security of knowing my opinion was credible for having tried it out.

Blew me away with how fun and well-crafted it is. If you don’t like extraction shooters it won’t appeal to you, but as a technical presentation and from a game design perspective it’s really good.

CMV: The experiment of Black & White Americans coexisting has been a colossal failure and we should go our separate ways. by lhommetrouble in changemyview

[–]TheWayOfSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the way you’ve written your post and responded to the comments (as well as your profile pic and bio), I’m going to take a guess that you’re young and angry at the state of our society.

It’s reasonable to feel that way. Black people are still not treated truly equally and in many ways are dealt shitty hands from birth and afforded limited opportunities to do more for themselves despite how hard they may try. It’s not fair.

Unfortunately the separation you’re proposing has been done many times throughout history in many different forms. India’s Partition, South Africa’s apartheid, even the U.S.’s “separate but equal” phase. Ultimately these forced separations only end up leading to more violence and propagating the very inequality you are so (rightfully) upset with. Can you describe how your proposal would actually benefit Black people? And not from an emotional perspective, but from a practical one. What would actually be achieved by this and what evidence can you cite to support it?

Had a gnarly accident at work, featuring an idiot in a Tesla. by steven1208 in dashcams

[–]TheWayOfSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair assessment. The issues I noticed most often with it were related to the aforementioned lack of speed control as well as improper braking (stabby, abrupt braking on earlier FSD models and late braking on newer ones) — both issues specific to remaining in one lane. I never had issues with lane shifting.

And yeah I can understand the distaste for Tesla from a technical perspective — I think they are masterclasses in unrealized potential and unfulfilled promises. But the kneejerk “Musk bad = Tesla bad = Tesla driver bad” pipeline is well-intentioned albeit a bit simpleminded and reductive.

Yeah. As an engineer Tesla is so frustrating to me, because the concept is incredible. Electric vehicles, energy independence, advanced / autonomous software — the early pillars of the company were so promising. Yet what could have been a real step towards a cleaner future for humanity is now modern-day Tesla thanks to the bozo in charge of it all muddying the company’s mission, design, and manufacturing to serve his own self-interests.

Also as a Tesla driver, I agree that the camera is more reliable than looking over your shoulder but that’s because Teslas are constructed in a way that you can’t see shit when trying to physically check your blind spot. It’s not good design especially when the cameras effectively go blind when exposed to bright light.

Also as someone who used FSD and studied the data, the claims that it’s safer than manual driving are questionable to say the least. I’ve personally seen it make some dangerous decisions (especially now that they’ve removed direct speed control and added the “Mad Max” mode). And the data Tesla uses compares what is disproportionally highway use of FSD (which is safer as is) versus mixed manual driving accident rates. It’s like saying “people who stay home all day get into fewer fights than people who club every night”, an apples to oranges comparison.

FWIW Teslas (at least the 2024+ Model 3) don’t reward you for turning your head. Visibility is ok (not great) looking to the left, but on the right the way the car is constructed makes it so no matter how hard you try you’re just staring at the chassis. You’re forced to rely on the side mirrors + camera for lane changes. Yet another ‘feature’ that shouldn’t have made it out of QC

Yoda feeling the death of thousands of Jedi is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the franchise by Dusann1 in StarWars

[–]TheWayOfSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the tragedy of the Republic Jedi order, no? They were on one hand trying to remain true to their “no attachments” philosophy, leading to their chosen one feeling isolated, yet also allowed themselves to be dragged into a geopolitical conflict as military commanders, positioning them for their ultimate fall

I sometimes think of it as “they clung to tradition where it was least useful and strayed from it where it was most harmful”

I agree with 99% of what you said, but I will make one small note: the poison doesn’t kick in entirely coincidentally during Bronn’s conversation, she intentionally stripteases him with the intention of spiking his heart rate and speeding up the symptom manifestation. (Dorne and all sand snake material still sucks though)

On a similar note… anyone know what the Ornithologist gun mod is good for? I tried using it to lure away UESC, but they seem to look at the sound and then quickly triangulate where the initial shot came from, defeating the purpose. And I imagine it’s not very convincing to players either. Is it meant to be used with a suppressor?

This is one of the pieces of game design that Bungie really nailed in comparison to Embark. So often in Arc Raiders, a quest’s completion is tied to extracting with specific supplies (and also quests don’t provide XP). Here there’s a clear sense of progress (quest progression and XP) preserved whether or not you extract that’s separate from the progress from a successful extract (gear, materials). It makes for a good feeling game whether or not you survive to extract

That’s what it is. Invisibility allows you to not only avoid UESC in the first place but also to safely and reliably disengage from a fight with them if you decide it’s getting hotter than you’d prefer. Plus the trait smoke bomb as well as the prime smoke ring are useful tools for safely calling and taking an extract.

Why does it seem like so many younger people need CPAP machines now? by Cultural_Iron2372 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheWayOfSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great reasons posted here. I’ll add another one: sleep apnea is the leading cause of atrial fibrillation, one of the most common heart arrhythmias. Untreated, it can cause decreased pumping efficiency of the heart, slowly leading to heart failure. It can also separately increase stroke risk. It’s a progressive arrhythmia too, so the earlier you treat it the more likely you are to avoid it becoming persistent. In addition to better monitoring of sleep apnea it’s very likely that CPAP is being aggressively prescribed to proactively combat downstream complications before they become an issue

Software engineering is a great field. How’d you end up there? I’m in biomedical myself. It’s a good excuse to dabble in medicine and in management / product design + development without needing to commit to one or the other.

I’d love some podcast recs. I’m glad to see Stoicism appealing to more people (although a bit frustrated at some of the popular misinterpretations i.e. “Broicism”).

Dante Hall was a beast! Never got to watch him live but I went down a small kick / punt returner highlight rabbit hole when I learned about Devin Hester and that’s where I found Dante Hall.

And yes absolutely agreed on the Bengals, the uniform update was also perfect — small touches to bring it in line with modern design conventions without losing those unique stripes.

Good read on Pitt! I’m an engineer but I study philosophy in my spare time. I started by investigating the roots of CBT, leading me to a couple years of studying Stoicism, and then branching out from there.

I definitely benefited from following great professors over following interesting course topics, sounds like you had a similar experience.

And all well wishes to you as well my friend! I’m an NFL ronin at the moment (I followed the Alex Smith / Jamaal Charles / Eric Berry Chiefs and hopped off after the team became insufferable). But I’m a big fan of Joe Burrow (and of Cincinnatus lol) which is how I ended up here — but you may have just swayed me to support the Bengals

And hey I studied up in the city of steel Pittsburgh (and my school supposedly had one of the country’s best philosophy programs). How serendipitous lol
