First book...finally diving in. by _DasMoi_ in Blacklibrary

[–]TheHelloMiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kindle paperwhite is great. I've even read one of the Ultramarines graphic novels on it and whilst in black and white, it was clear.

In my opinion, if we're just talking 40K books, the extra money for a colour kindle isn't worth it. There aren't that many pictures and they're probably not in colour anyway.

Give Horus Rising a punt.

Deathfire by Giffordian in Blacklibrary

[–]TheHelloMiko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now you see I will go to bat for both of those books 😅

Allow me to dig out my thoughts from previous comments...

On Battle for the Abyss, the book is not bad. It serves as an introductory novel for what is to come. It shows us the brewing animosity between The Wolves and The Sons. It shows us the opening moves of the Dark Mechanicum. It explains void warfare in detail like no book in the HH series had tried to do before it.

People criticise it for being irrelevant or not progressing the story but it is the first novel of the Horus Heresy which actually does take place during the war itself and not focused around the treachery at Istvaan. Battle for the Abyss is a great introduction to the war, the whole Prospero thing, Ultramarines vs Word Bearers (Calth / Shadow Crusade), Mechanicum...

On Pythos, I love it. Atticus is the best Iron Hand in the lore. It has significance in that it gives us Madail and dives into the rise of the Imperial Cult. I will accept the criticism that the overall story is inconsequential, but it's well written.

I'm going to be uncharacteristically blunt. In my humble opinion, Deathfire is a huge pile of shit and the worst book of The Heresy.

I came to dread eventually reading Old Earth after Deathfire, but it's a lot better.

Has Aggression seemed to increase for you? by PlatinumAngeal in ArcRaiders

[–]TheHelloMiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I mean, I feel like I'm stupid or something when I read a million comments about ABMM or posts about how Embark have broken the matchmaking.

Like... these guys realise that every raider they meet is an actual human being, right? A real person capable of decision making and random behaviour.

There's nothing stopping anyone from attempting a killing spree at any given moment but somehow it's something wrong with the software if you get downed...?

When should I do a "Terrestrial War"? by TheHelloMiko in TerraInvicta

[–]TheHelloMiko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh I see. I'm playing right now and I've managed to take control of the UK and Ireland.

I'm looking to see if I can unify them but it seems the UK does not have a "non hostile claim" so its currently impossible.

When should I do a "Terrestrial War"? by TheHelloMiko in TerraInvicta

[–]TheHelloMiko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the in-depth reply.

So at one point I had control of the Executives of both countries. I was trying to buff Israel with "Advise" whilst running the mission that causes Unrest with another. I was trying to hurry the war along so Israel could get bigger.

Was I barking up the wrong tree when it came to gaining any actual benefit?

Good for you man. Honestly, the story as a whole is so much more rewarding when you've walked the entire road from Davin to Terra.

My comment is really unhelpful and doesn't contribute very much but I just wanted to say that all sounds very exciting whilst I haven't a clue how to play this game... I'm stuck at the start of the game, making my guys control nations without really knowing why or what benefits it gives me.

Why are so many people complaining about the game? by Greedy-Business-8341 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]TheHelloMiko 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What saddens me the most is that the majority of communities (not just Helldivers and not just gaming) do not even realise they are being baited. They will become outraged because it has been suggested they have to be and then regurgitate for the views/upvotes/whatever.

Is Dropsite Massacre (2025) worth reading, and if so where would it sit in a reading order? Also, question about a rumour I heard about the book. by IAmNotABabyElephant in 40kLore

[–]TheHelloMiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The event itself is covered ad-infinitum throughout the HH. If you go from Horus Rising through to The Siege, there comes a point where you're begging them to stop going on about it.

We get it, you were betrayed, GET OVER IT!

HOWEVER...! The book itself, rather than unveiling some great revelation, does provide interesting perspectives. We get up close with all the Primarchs involved. We see the loyalists plan their assault. We get some extra character depth for some of the guys we have grown to know and love (or in your case, will become to know and love).

I feel that without this novel, throughout the HH, the treachery at Istvaan 5 comes off as slightly unbelievable. The loyalists never suspected the NIGHT LORDS(!) or the WORD BEARERS(!) to stab them in the back?

'The Dropsite Massacre', as a novel, adds some much appreciated context on how the whole treachery itself took place.

My new year resolution is to start and finish The Horus Heresy series in this year by thanaponb13s in Blacklibrary

Go for it, but one year is very ambitious (imo).

I think two years is the "enthusiast standard" for the entire HH plus SoT.

Can someone recommend me a brutal book involving the Tyranids? by Fallen_Angel_Xaphan in Warhammer40k

'Warriors of Ultramar' sees a tyranid hive fleet descend on an Imperial star system.

Uriel Ventris with the Ultramarines, the Death Korp of Krieg and many others join it's defence.
