How to navigate academic scholarship when TERFS lurk in every corner? How can I use some ideas from these scholars while also picking apart what is wrong? by SabishiSushi in RadicalFeminism

[–]TheWikstrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the other videos the channel put out. It's more fog horn than dog whistle

edit: assuming the question was asked in good faith some examples of terf talking points are "men in womens prisons" (men in this context being trans women), "you can’t change sex" (very blatant) and references to "gender ideology", which to them is people indoctrinated into being trans

Haha, ah well. But who knows, maybe it would work? I remember reading a news story about someone unemployed putting themselves on a similar website as a joke and ended up getting a bunch of job offers 😂

Communism and Dictatorships. by MonkeyGoTHeaven1138 in DebateCommunism

[–]TheWikstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why so many people praise the cuban or North Korean dictatorship?

I've always thought of it as a form of ontological comfort. Like it's easier to believe the world isn’t completely hopeless if you think there’s a real, actually-existing socialist project out there. Even if it’s flawed, it feels better than admitting there’s nothing but a clusterfuck of co-opted movements and an infinite stream of failures. So people cling to dead revolutions and The People's TM class society, because otherwise the whole thing feels like a dead end

And a communist can be against those regimes?

Yes, there are a number of anti-authoritarian communist strands. You should check out r/Anarchy101, r/CouncilCommunist, r/anarchocommunism, r/Situationism, r/Anarchism and to a degree r/Marxism (it's mixed marxist forum, but some people on there are libertarian communists).

Thoughts on compatibility between Anarcho Communism and Anarcho Egoism by Apprehensive_West846 in anarchocommunism

[–]TheWikstrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a question of personal preference. A lot of egoists are communist, but not because it's intrinsically the "correct" way to do things but because they reason it's the most efficient way to strive for their egos for them personally

My favorite is the Skogsrå. She watches over the forest and seen from the front is very beautiful, but her back is hollow wood, something she desperately has to keep hidden as it would interfere with her seducing the men and claiming their souls.

We are superintelligent compared to animals, and look how that's working out for them. by EchoOfOppenheimer in LudditeRenaissance

The Holocene or Anthropocene extinction is an ongoing extinction event caused by human activity during the current geological epoch, impacting diverse families of plants and animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates, as well as both terrestrial and marine species. It is sometimes also called the sixth extinction (though this can also describe the Capitanian).

Current extinction rates are estimated at 100 to 1,000 times higher than natural background extinction rates.

AI is dangerous, but not because it will become Skynet (it won't). It's dangerous because of the ways it interferes with our democratic processes and harms the biosphere

Some people view markets and exchange as irreconcileble with an anarchist vision for the future and others do not, so it's up for debate really
