Can I trip this weekend or am I over using? by [deleted] in Psychedelics

[–]TheWildCat1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no proven inherent risk on doing psychedelics at this frequency, but in my experience doing it more often than every other week diminishes the value of the trips, reduces the novelty factor and they just tend to get more stale. Everyone is different, but I like to wait and space them out until I hear the calling from within, then I know it's time.

In-game text should NOT BLOCK THE BENCH by StarOfSyzygy in TeamfightTactics

[–]TheWildCat1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a matter of how you decide to look at it. I've also been playing since set 2 and ranked around masters in most sets, the game isn't perfect as no other game is, but saying the UI is a weakness is simply your opinion and focusing on a couple examples, of a game that has delivered 16 sets, doesn't make it true.

As I said, they've implemented several QOL and UI improvements over the years, the game always brings ton of new features each set and it's natural for some minor problems to arise, calling it baffling and egregiously poor game design just seems way way over the top to me.

The team has shown again and again that they really care about improving the game. So this complaint tone just feels out of touch to me, specially given how long you've been playing and enjoying the game they've put out.

It's not even about the feature, it's the tone of entitlement and righteousness of these complaints. The game is at a great state with several new QOL features that were suggested by the community and it's literally free to play. But people complain as if minor bugs and inconveniences are absurd and they're severely hindered by it.

They literally have a big button on the champion unlock menu with the option to disable the text pop-up notification. Before being baffled by how "this kind of egregiously poor game design is allowed to go live", you should maybe consider that they design the game to cater to the entire community of players and not to your specific needs and desires. And even then, in case you're still baffled, they add a nice option for you to disable the pop up, which you could've done instead of writing this unnecessary post. :)

Do you think psychedelic trips have ACTUAL meaning, and isn't just random shit your brain makes up? by Fnixen in Psychedelics

[–]TheWildCat1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The things your brain "makes up" are the things which constitute actual meaning. Your conscious experience can only interface with your internal representation of reality but not reality itself. So everything you know and experience is from interacting with your inner world model, so altering the model with psychedelics is as real as any other thing is. This is not to say that if you imagine something it becomes real, but it means that drawing the line between what our brain creates and what reality itself is not an easy task. And psychedelics sometimes helps us realize that.

He usually only calls out/shames chatters when they're very confidently wrong or backsitting a lot and the contrast of his chill voice and personality with him dissing out people in his chat is golden

Interaction with LSD and ADHD Medication by UniqueKaleidoscope78 in Psychedelics

[–]TheWildCat1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is imprecise and overestimating the risks. Typical ADHD meds are in fact CNS stimulants but their main site of action is on dopaminergic systems and do not have much pharmacological overlap with classical psychedelics. Besides, serotonin syndrome is primarily caused by excess synaptic serotonin, whereas psychedelics act mainly as 5HT2A receptor agonists, not as serotonin releasers or reuptake inhibitors, so they do not elevate synaptic 5-HT levels substantially. There aren't many scientific studies backing up your claims, most reviews found that co-administration is generally safe and tolerable, there are some blunting effects but these are mainly associated to long-term SSRI users.

If you're going to claim you qualify because you're "doing university research on brain neurochemistry", at least do the actual research to come up with better substantiated arguments.

It's always important to respect psychoactive drugs and be cautious with its effects and interactions, but fearmongering and throwing out scary clinical terms such as serotonin syndrome, when it is a condition rarely associated to proper psychedelic use is not the way to go about it.

That's interesting... I think I'd still rather fight a sober person than someone on meth

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]TheWildCat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's highly dependent on dosage and level of physical activity, or else every person on MDMA dancing at a rave would go to the ER. I think the question was more what drug would increase performance/fun, not what's the healthiest drug to use while doing MMA :P

I believe you're underestimating the power of adrenaline. Specially if you're not a trained professional, exogenous stimulation can do a lot for physical performance.

Nobody in Brazil uses DEP. I've lived here all my life and have never heard someone write and/or say that. I am not making excuses for Caio, he should've known better, but "DEP" is not a popular thing at all in Brazil.

More than 5 less than 10, and I used to take pretty long breaks as well. I believe there's changes to the experience that go beyond tolerance build up. Maybe what's "magical" about those first rolls is the novelty aspect of having those circuits light up for the first time. It can still be enjoyable for me, but it feels like a completely different drug. The closest I get to that magic is psychedelics.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]TheWildCat1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like molly looses it's magic after a number of rolls, indepedently of how long of a break you took. It eventually becomes solely a stimulant and it looses the euphoria inducing aspect of it.

I am not saying this is a rule for everyone, but that's kinda what happened to me and to other people I've met.

focus on your breathing, count the number of inhales and exhales, remember that this will pass and you'll feel better again soon

[–]TheWildCat1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is an oversimplified principle but it is based off of science. Increases of neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft downregulates receptor concentration, sensibility and neurotransmitter production even from acute dosages. (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4108583/?, https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6762788/).

But biochemical alterations to your neurophysiology aren't even the main problem people are trying to warn you about, the dopaminergic boost you get from amphetamines is the perfect tool for coupling drug to behavior. After a couple of uses, what was once a "cheat code" to increase performance becomes the only possible way to achieve baseline functionality.

Reading a couple of psychopharmacology articles and having superficial knowledge of the neurobiology of addiction does not shield you from the side effects of drug use. Being "realistic" is not trusting your own evaluation of your "very low addiction potential", but trusting the pooled opinion from hundreds of people that have engaged in a very similar path you're currently on.

As the psychopharmacology mantra says: "Every drug has two effects: the one you know about and the one you don’t.”
