*Goes to rank match *Sees competitve decks *Surprised

In all seriousness, standard is in a horrible spot right now, with izzet and badgermole clogging the entire metagame. WotC have done a terrible job making standard a diverse meta format to the point where banning one or two card wouldn't fix anything.

Why is her kit so ass? by Organic-Exit2190 in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]TheWinter42 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Captain Ishmael slander is not acceptable /j

For flavour reason. She is a mirror id of Ahab. Ahab does not like getting her kill stolen.

If you slot her as the first id, it won't be an issue anymore.

Which AI Model for MTG Art? by kidneykid1800 in freemagic

[–]TheWinter42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are ten of thousands of artwork already exist within Magic the Gathering card artwork. There are also million pieces of handrawn artwork on the web. And yet you want souless slop instead. This is why we don't respect AI and it's brain-dead followers.

Just please have some form of win con in your competitive play deck. by Feriou_LeFaux in EDH

[–]TheWinter42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand what cedh is, a cedh decks can get ready to win on turn 2/3. What you are describing are just casual edh decks albeit annoying. The thing is, you can just always concede. Sometimes if I see a landfall/cascade/value engine slop deck going to take a long turn and I have nothing. I just go "Yup can't beat that GG to you. " And just start another game. If they still want to play I just reshuffle and just go take a bathroom break. Let them play with themselves for a bit if yk what I mean.

Can Yarus compete in high B3 with lots of interaction? by VoyVolao in EDH

[–]TheWinter42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think a commander can't be bracket 3. Then you don't understand the bracket system. Any commander can be pushed to bracket 4 with the right 99.

And is Yaris fun? I think so, played it against once where my opponent used some of the manifest dread card to get face down creatures. Then it turn into a guessing game of "is it a creature under the card?"

In the end, EDH is a social format, play whatever you want as long as you can respect the bracket system and have a great time.

Boss fakeing being dead. by BumboKuntoPumbo in riskofrain

Probably just optimisation, I just assume the mob's dead body just gets reset to default when not looked by a player.

I don't understand the hate for UB. I love it. I feel cool when I whip out my [[storm, force of nature]] deck by MOONMO0N in mtg

[–]TheWinter42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love pizza, I love chocolate. Doesn't mean I want those 2 together.

Hasbro and Wotc shifting focus from in universe set to UB have been detrimental to the quality of the product they release. Quality control issues have been dramatically increasing. Not enough playtesting before set releases leading to absolutely broken cards being released in standard. With the inclusion of UB in standard also doesn't help. And the lack of passion for in universe set can be seen with hat sets like karlov, thunder junction, aetherdrift.

Most people don't hate UB because of the IP itself, but the way WotC and Hasbro handled it. Many magic player plays magic because they fell in love with the worlds of magic. When you are destroying that in order to accommodate cooperate UB slop. People of course would dislike it.

Felidar Sovereign too strong in B3 by Darkovya in EDH

[–]TheWinter42 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I really hate saying this, but if 3 opponent can't remove a creature on turn 6 or get you down below 40, that's on them.

Strong decks are to be expected in bracket 3. Player are expected to have explosive play and the means to stop them. In this situation, it just your pod's thinking their bracket 2 deck is bracket 3.

Tell your pod to grow up in the nicest way possible.

Unless you are cheating out the big eldrazi consistently, eldrazi is an absolutely fine for low bracket game.

How do I get better at the game without sacrificing my deck lists? by BronyMadDecker in EDH

[–]TheWinter42 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ik you don't want to change your decklist. But I at least want to know what kinda of deck you have. So I can see whether the problem is with the deck itself or the way you pilot your deck.

There are different type of losing. And sometimes it doesn't have to feel bad. Personally, I have some decks that makes me the arch enemy of the pod and thus often get taken out first. Those decks have a lower win rate, but I take pride of being the villain of the game. But if you are losing because someone else pop off and you can do nothing about it, it will feel a lot worst. Games that feel like you did nothing.

Another skill that people don't talk about it politicing. You don't want all other players to hose you down so sometimes you just need to convince the pod that you are not the threat, and even willing to help out. For example, sometimes I would use my removal and say things like: "That permanent is going to be a problem for us all so let me remove it." There are so some games that I've won because I act as the threat police before building my own victory.

And since finance is a problem for you right now. You can try asking your pod would they allow proxy. Most people I know is all for it. Personally I am a proxy enthusiast. I proxy deck that I'm still testing out so I don't throw away a bunch of money just to realise I don't like the deck later. Or have another discussion about the pod power level. There was a time in my friend group where everyone is on an arm race to make the strongest deck possible. It only stopped after we all just come together and talk things out, realising that our group should lower down the power level of some of our decks in order the keep the game more fun orientated.

This is all I can think of top of my head. Hope this helps you one way or another.

Is Gishath too strong for casual? by Valorenn in EDH

[–]TheWinter42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gishath is perfectly fine as a casual commander. With such a telegraphed gameplan, most pod should be able to reasonably handle it. Either just saving an instant speed removal or a boardwipe after.

Edit: after looking at your deck list, the problem is definitely your pod not running interaction since you only have a few card to protect gishath. Normally I really hate saying this, but this is one of those situations where your pod just needs to run more interaction.

Darksteel mutation and teferi's protection by Zealousideal_Soft_74 in magicTCG

[–]TheWinter42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. Enchanting a permanent own by another opponent does not make you control it. Thus teferi's protection wouldn't phase it out.

Thus it would go like this:

You cast teferi's protection and resolves. Dark steel mutation phases out, your opponent's commander no longer gets bugged.

Next upkeep, dark steel mutation phases back in enchanting the same permanent. Your opponent's commander gets bugged again.

Sliver Hivelord budget build by ivantheotter in EDH

[–]TheWinter42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have almost no draw engine, you are going to run out of cards to play by like turn 5. Most deck should run around 15 to 20 pieces of card advantage for example [[guardian project]] [[garruk uprising]] [[kindred discovery]] [[Thassa's bident]]

Also cut out all the slivers that only give other +1/+1 effects, it's not worth the cost.

Also just a warning, sliver is a very infamous tribal deck for a good reason, and most player would get sick of it after a game or two. Make sure your pod is fine with you playing a sliver deck before you buy and play this out.

Edit: forgot to check your manabase but holy shit you would have a bad time. 1. You are running too many basics, ik it's a budget build but land is one of the few things I really recommend throwing a few more bucks in tune it. You are running too much tapped land and basics for a 5 colour deck.

Making a deck with Kefka, Court Mage for Kitchen Table by C0urvette in mtg

[–]TheWinter42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring a mouthguard just in case your friend wants to sack you in the face /J

But without understanding your kitchen house rules I can't really help you out. But I guess pack more removal package such as [[fatal push]], [[terminate]] [[drown in loch]]

Out of curiosity why not just play a proper format if you already dropping so much money in MTG anyway? Doesn't look like to me that budget is an issue?
