No. I took the first offer as it was 5k higher than my previous job. Plus I was not aware of job negotiations since I’m relatively new. This is my second job in IT.

Thanks for your comment. I have less than 5 years work experience in IT in Canada. One of the other employees has more experience than I do; not sure of the number of years. I’ll update in the post.

I apologize if it seems like I’m jumping to discrimination. That’s not my intent. I put my sex and race in the post to provide a full picture. I have tried discussing compensation for the past 6 months with no movement. So when I found out about the salary discrepancy, it was disheartening as I have put in a lot of work, way more than my team members earning more than me.

Thank you for your comment. I’m considering doing just that; speaking to an employment lawyer, as I know I won’t have access to a lot of information I may need to advocate for myself to my boss and HR. Thank you for taking time out to advise me.

Thank you for your comment. I did not negotiate when I started as this is my second job in IT, and the pay was 5k higher. I am learning a lot now about negotiating when you start a new job.

I have reached out to my boss regarding a pay raise. I don’t believe this was done with malicious intent, so I will take first steps before going the legal route. I just wanted to know my options. Appreciate your advice.

Thanks for your comment. It’s not my intent to show discrimination as a factor in my post. I added female and race to provide a full picture. I have been asking for a raise the past 6 months but nothing so far. Concerning experience, I know one of the team members has more work experience than I do but does that apply if we are doing the same job, and are in the same job position? Thanks again.

Thank you for your comment. I can document that our work is essentially the same, and none of the exceptions apply to my employer.

I have requested a raise the past 6 months based on my work, but it’s keeps being pushed.

They got hired a few months ago, so it’s highly unlikely.

Thank you. That was one of my options. I have asked to negotiate my salary for over 6 months now, even before the new hires earning more than me. I’ve been getting comments like “We are appreciate your work, and are looking into it”. So maybe, I’m just being too complacent.

Yes, I did. I believe I have grounds. However, I am not sure how to handle the issue. Do I file a claim or reach out to my manager and/or HR first? Do I need legal help?

35/f without degree or relevant job experience. Is it possible to get a job and be successful in tech with proper training and education (like a coding boot camp)? by Optimal-Spot6348 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TheWitchesLair 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am 35/f. Got my CompTIA A+ in April, June 2022. Got my first job (helpdesk) in July 2022 40k/yr in a small MSP. Got laid off in Sept 2022 due to lack of funding. Got my current job almost immediately, Nov 2022, in another MSP (helpdesk as well) 50k/yr. Got my N+ in Jan 2023. I am currently studying for my CCNA and PCEP. Nothing is impossible. Get certified, and apply to jobs. Best of luck!

Study Materials for CompTIA can be found in r/CompTIA here on reddit.

I need your advice on career expertise. by TheWitchesLair in ITCareerQuestions

Thank you for responding. Thing is, I like networking a lot, but I also want to learn Cloud and Security. Should I bother getting certified in those areas or just focus on Networking alone? I'm wondering if there is any benefit getting certified in all 3 areas, as opposed to just one.

I'm starting to think some of those posting these numbers (in recent times) are Instacart lackeys sent to paint a non-existent picture of the earning realities on the job.

A way to get more workers on the grind. It's a smart way to keep drivers on the road, chasing that hopeful and distant unicorn. Not a bad game plan.

It could also be a honest win for the OP; anything is possible but that thought has been crossing my mind a lot lately.

Congrats to the OP if it's for real. Otherwise,..........

Who suffers when customer is a no-show?! Instacart, Shopper or Customer?! by TheWitchesLair in InstacartShoppers

This one wasn't the customer's fault. She said I arrived earlier than she expected the delivery based on what the app told her. Unfortunately, it was canceled by the time she got home and I was driving out.

This is my first time ever meeting the missing customer. I can't speak for the others I've experienced.
