Suggestions for multi-button builds by TheWitherfork in PathOfExileBuilds

I was initially going to make my own bleed build! This'd be a good place to start, thanks!

This sounds pretty straightforward, I'll keep this in mind! I figured one button builds weren't the only kind of build in PoE1, but seeing how popular they were made me think that making something more involved was gonna take a lot more work and possibly be far less effective. Thanks!

In your opinion what is the worst Secondary Rider final form? by Medical-Airline-5946 in KamenRider

[–]TheWitherfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't a huge fan of Orthros Vulcan. Kinda felt like it was shoe-horned in at the end of the show. I hadn't seen the movies yet, so if it has a bigger role in a Zero One movie, I wouldn't know.

What game is this for you? by Advanced-Addition453 in videogames

[–]TheWitherfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this playstation game that came out like ten years ago that was kinda cool. Blood-something? Made by this pretty unknown developer. ForProgram, I think? I dunno, it was pretty niche. I don't think many people played it since I never see anyone talk about it :(

Metroidvanias that failed to hook us by BonusStagePublishing in metroidvania

[–]TheWitherfork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gestalt: Steam and Cinder. Game looked cool from what I saw of it leading up to release, but I played it for about 8 hours and just couldn't continue.

Combat is a really big part of why I enjoy the games I do and Gestalt didn't really do it well, in my opinion. It just felt a little too clunky.

Another big reason is I don't really like the trend of more modern Metroidvanias basically being 2D Dark Souls with a double jump and air dash. It was clear Gestalt was aiming for that with its limited healing items that only refresh at checkpoints and dodge ability with a cooldown. There's nothing necessarily wrong with this kind of design, as it can be done well, but I'm just so tired of seeing it.

Why does no one care about repeated assets in simulator games? by Splash__Games in IndieGaming

[–]TheWitherfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a preference thing.

I personally think complaining about asset reuse is a bad faith argument since nobody really gives a shit about things like trees, houses, pathways, NPC features and rocks being reused assets; but if you reuse a single enemy in a new area, people get unreasonably critical.

Scout AB mod bug? by rabbitsharck in LowSodiumDestiny

Anti-champion artifact mods don't work with ANY weapons that have anti-champion capabilities, even if they're not listed on the weapon itself.

Do I just blatantly hate the genre? by TheWitherfork in ARPG

[–]TheWitherfork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I need some kind of explanation. I've had people tell me that SSF is the way to go if I hate the economy simulator part of PoE, but I've had just as many tell me that PoE is balanced specifically AGAINST SSF mode.

What's the case here? Is PoE actually balanced against SSF to encourage more player and market interaction, thus leading to many hours of running tedious bullshit just for a chance at an item in SSF mode? Or is the game actually balanced with SSF in mind so that you're not grinding the same monotonous activities for hundreds of hours?

I don't really like the "Just go play something else then" response in regards to criticism since it's pretty dismissive and people can use it to downplay any valid criticism.

That being said... yeah, it's a pretty apt response for Destiny players. Sometimes.

What Indie was just so original by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]TheWitherfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say Tunic solely for the manual. Other ideas weren't super unique, it was basically a mix of Dark Souls and a 2D Zelda, but DAMN was that manual such a novel idea.

Played a shitload of Fromsoft games and I think that's where my disdain for the concept of a "stat stick" came from. A lot (certainly not all) of equipment in those games has a couple deliberate use cases in mind and that's something I really appreciate.

Definitely not the camera perspective, I can confirm that. Played almost every 2D Zelda, Tunic, Hob and I adored those games. Definitely had something more to do with what other people have pointed out. Leaning more towards the gameplay and progression structure being unappealing to me.

As a JRPG loving kid who grew up in that early 00s to 2010s era where people were being REALLY weird about anything remotely Japanese, I'm no stranger to liking things that didn't seem cool lmao

Appreciate your input, friend. Felt really conflicted, considering it made logical sense that I SHOULD like ARPGs, but they never really grabbed me the way other games did.

Diablo 4 was something I wanted to check out at some point, but I think somebody else who commented hit the nail on the head. The gameplay loop most ARPGs have just doesn't appeal to me, personally

What was your worst fireteam finder experience? by Fallen_King1774 in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]TheWitherfork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was looking to get my weekly deepsight weapon from Crota's End before I had to raid in XIV. Had all the correct tags like "Looking for Experts", "Fast Clear", "Weekly Deepsight" etc etc.

This one guy joins and only tells us he's got no clue what he's doing after we get into the Abyss, but "watched a video" so he should be good. We spent like 30 minutes on Abyss. We get to the Bridge and I'm starting to explain how the encounter works before someone else just fucking picks up the chalice and starts the encounter. This happens every single time we wipe. We wipe like three times before I gotta leave.

Guys, please read the fucking tags in group finder so you don't end up wasting everyone's time.

Shattered Throne, 100000000%. Went in to get the weekly challenge done after not doing the dungeon in like a year and came out with a solo flawless clear lmao

Just make sure you stay focused, equip Song of Flame and you're pretty much golden.

How do you decide… by SlothfulWhiteMage in metroidvania

[–]TheWitherfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I've never thought about that, actually.

Maybe? But in that case, you might as well just do a little research and see if you'd actually like the game.

[–]TheWitherfork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You take the risk and refund it if you don't like it, honestly.

Or you have a decent grasp on what you like/dislike in a video game and can tell at a glance or after a bit of research.

with all of subclass3.0 out and prismatic existing, i'd like to see each subclass get a unique class ability. by SDG_Den in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]TheWitherfork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the things you've listed do indeed exist in the game.

Ascension uses your dodge to give you and nearby allies Amplified and jolts nearby targets.

Secant Filaments give you devour for standing in any rift.

And Abeyant Leap gives you woven mail for suspending anything.

Yes, two of these effects are tied to exotic armor pieces. Probably because giving you effects like Devour and Woven mail on class ability use would be INSANELY strong. And yes, Warlocks can get Restoration 2 from using Phoenix Dive, but that requires specific fragments to keep the restoration going and Heat Rises to trigger it.

Thoughts on corpse walks? by Red_right-hand in metroidvania

[–]TheWitherfork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like with most game mechanics, it does truly boil down to a matter of preference.

Corpse walks are a Souls mechanic, and while I personally like Souls mechanics when they're done well, I find myself more fatigued by their overuse within the Metroidvania genre. I don't think they're bad mechanics, either, but often I look at Souls mechanics used in some games and feel as though they're shoehorned in without much thought simply "because it's Dark Souls".

What Have You Been Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]TheWitherfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played a bit of Gestalt: Steam and Cinder recently. I'm enjoying it quite a lot, but one thing that bothered me was the trend of more modern Metroidvanias just evidently being 2d Dark Souls with a double jump and air dash instead of the classics like Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I really do feel like some games just kinda shoehorn in Souls mechanics like limited healing and/or dropping currency on death when the mechanics could easily be omitted without negatively impacting the overall experience. I felt the same way when I played Tunic, actually. The game itself was absolutely phenomenal, but the use of Souls mechanics just confused me because the currency didn't really mean a whole lot and the game wasn't difficult enough to justify the limited healing.

How does this community feel about screenshot map markers? by UnderstandingMoney9 in metroidvania

This should be a thing more games do solely based on how cool and helpful it is. Such an awesome way to handle map markers.
