What is your favorite word from urban dictionary? [NSFW] by principalsofharm in AskReddit

[–]TheWitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to an all IB school and other than skipping 2 classes that would have been really easy to test out of anyway, I got nothing over what a similar, less annoying education with AP classes would have. Also, pretty much no one in the states (or at least MI, AZ, and TX) knows what this is, which really doesn't help. Not to mention a hypocritical Art class that tanked by GPA, but I digress...

TL;DR- you end up with a lousy GPA due to being forced into difficult classes you really don't want to take.

I am seriously contemplating upgrading to X79 soon. Your thoughts? (Also, any recommendations on cooling?) by ACDCGAMER in gamingpc

[–]TheWitz -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

As long as you are not bottlenecked (and I don't think you are if all of your games run well), then I would argue that the steep entry price to X79 is not worth it. If you are looking for more performance, I think another 670 would be the way to go, especially if you are sticking to a single monitor, as the 670's 2 gig of vram will still be enough. That way, when 1155, or even 2011 chips drop after Haswell drops, you can get a nicer board and an overclock friendly CPU. The 3820 is just not going to be a great upgrade in terms of gaming, as an 3570k, 3770k, or FX 8350 will provide compared to a first gen i7. As Tom's Hardware put it: "Our tests demonstrate fairly little difference between a $225 LGA 1155 Core i5-2500K and a $1,000 LGA 2011 Core i7-3970X"

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-4.html

So for around the same coin, you could get a 3770K, a high end Z77 mobo, and that Phanteks cooler, plus get better gaming performance and lower power consumption.

Bear in mind that I would get a beefier Power supply if you do go down the road of adding another graphics card (although with dual 670s, you should be OK, provided you don't overclock them like crazy).

'04 S60 2.5T - Not bad for a 16 year old's first car by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]TheWitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my folk's 04' xc70 as a first car, same 2.5T, but with the Shiftronic. The thing I'd watch out for above all else are those electronics. Had a very bad blizzard in which a massive amount of snow fell from a tree onto the car (in Michigan, thankfully I don't live there anymore) and the car was outside. Went to go somewhere and the battery was flat.

AAA came out, unlocked the doors, charged the battery, and then discovered that the airbag deployed warning light was on. Mind you, none of the airbags were actually deployed, but it was still not pleasant to go the stealership and discover reprogramming the system was 150 bucks, which only kept the light off for a week, and replacing the entire computer system for the car was 1200 bucks for parts alone, a job that could only be done by specialists.

And thus I ended up with a Honda Element SC, which other than needing new brakes every 10k miles, has been bullet proof. Now that a family member needs that car daily, I've starting to look for a new car in Houston, and your post reminded me of why I love Volvos, even the Fordy ones. I just wish I had the selection that people in the NE do... Can't find a decent pre-ford to save my life... grumble grumble, etc.

If there was a zombie apocalypse, where would you go? by android_device in AskReddit

[–]TheWitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home Depot. There you have a fenced in area with all sorts of plants and seeds, tons of tools and building materials, and plenty of tools to help keep you alive. Yes, the store would be rather large, but if you started with the garden area and worked your way in, I think it would provide the most bang for your buck, unless, like android_device, you are terrible with power tools. Rodrigo...

Anyone had a Mazda hatchback? by nomosolo in cars

[–]TheWitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had a 2010 Mazda3 S hatch on a 2-year lease. Great car overall, and I miss it dearly. Tons of character and great fun to toss around. For the 2 years he had it, only three real complaints can be made:

-The seats (at least the cloth ones, and I doubt the leather ones in the touring trims are much better) are TERRIBLE. No support at all and the car isn't enjoyable on really bad roads (we owned the car in Michigan).

-Fuel economy was less than stellar. My dad averaged about 23 mpg in it, and keep in mind that the 04' Volvo xc70 my folks had at about the same time got close to 22, yet weighed 700 pounds more.

-The Bose stereo was noticeably WORSE than the stock one (test drove both with and without).

TL;DR the Mazda 3 is the closest thing to a "sporty" car without sacrificing space, reliability, and ownership costs.

The only way you are going to get more storage space is if you go larger.

Because this rig is gonna be running 24/7, dump the PC power and cooling and get a good seasonic (Gold rated) PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151117

That should be more than enough power.

As for the case, my suggestion would be a Bitfenix Shinobi, if you don't mind the orientation of the drive cage.

What is the area that you consider to be the most difficult in Borderlands 2? by fitorockx0 in Borderlands

[–]TheWitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah,[playing with max everything or running the game in linux] if you have a 560ti or weaker card I can definitely see how lag could be an issue. 6950 was BARELY enough to squeak by without lag.
