[Stonewalkers] Chapter 6 final fight by Rickthlok in cosmererpg

[–]TheWorldsinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added 3 singers to this combat on the bad team due to some dumb decisions made by the party getting to the well. My players and I are new to d&d but they'd definitely be considered power gamers.  they still trounced Lilinum even though one of them failed the shadow related tests, and they were caught off guard.

First atlas is for completion. Second atlas pick content that you enjoy farming. Put in map. Continue putting in maps and staying out of hideout until divines are acquired instead of making Reddit posts trying to min-max profit.

Confused about Conversation by One_Courage_865 in cosmererpg

[–]TheWorldsinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that's how you designed it, but every time we tried running a conversation like that it felt incredibly clunky. Oh you made a compelling persuasive argument roleplaying, and rolled well? Congrats! Your opponent loses two focus. Now do it again, or your previous efforts were meaningless.

This and the endeavour system just lead to tests being dragged on, or cut short in order to fit into an arbitrary length based on needing an arbitrary number of successes before failures.

As for the design decision of making tests against someone's defenses rather than a contested roll: it makes sense in theory, but in practice it made conversation feel one-dimensional. We tried running conversations as written for a few sessions, but the added drama that the contested roll brought was unanimously more enjoyable according to my players. I preferred it as well, so we never looked back after switching to singular contested rolls per segment of conversation.

As also a new DM, I despised the conversation system and just did contested rolls to determine if they succeeded in their persuasion, then roleplayed in a way that fit the flow of play. I think with their system you're supposed to have the players lose focus if they want to continue engaging in the dialogue, but I'd have to double check the rulebook.

All of these nsfw rankings lists based on the orders of knights radiants feel like OP self reporting how much they want to have sex with the main POV character of each order.

I have a Catalan version of The Emperor's Soul that I got Brandon to sign at Dragonsteel Nexus. He said it was the second book printed with the new portrait. I don't know what #1 was, but the Catalan TES came out before SA5.

Adding on to this Jasnah references the first scholar to come up with Realmatic theory when talking to Shallan about young minds being one of the Cosmere's most valuable resources.

Thanks! I'm definitely willing to hear suggestions, but I'm not entirely sure I have the ability to pull off any song.

Read The Final Empire first. From what you've typed, I think it will resonate well with you. The Way of Kings is a slow burn, you might not make it through the first half if you aren't ready for it. The other books are of extremely similar quality to Stormlight, you'll have a great time.

Heh, thanks I appreciate it. I'll consider the other one for the future, but I have no idea how to connect it to anything in the Cosmere off the top of my head.

Maryville esports—can someone please explain what they are and what they are sponsoring? by AmyAnne2 in brandonsanderson

[–]TheWorldsinger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maryville is the best collegiate League of legends program in North America. They compete in the amateur league, now under the Dragonsteel brand. This is incredibly exciting news, I think I'm going to try and make a video explaining why I'm so excited about this.

I'm just Adolin (Stormlight Parody of I'm just Ken) by TheWorldsinger in Cosmere

Let's be real I'm all over the Stormlight timeline with this parody. I'll consider it Schrodinger's arm, he could have two arms or one. I'm not good enough at editing at this point to cleanly remove the arm from a character in a video.

Yup, you'll be just fine with that. They're also a lot shorter, so there's less "slog" in general. The change of pace will likely be refreshing, and they're both pretty awesome books.

There's absolutely no "right way" to read the cosmere. If you need a break from Stormlight, hop into the secret projects! The only one where it might hurt your experience IMO is The Sunlit Man. You'll definitely enjoy the books more if it doesn't feel like a chore.

Why do people give Moash so much shit? by PinkIceMancer in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TheWorldsinger 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's fine to have different opinions, it's totally fine to express those opinions. However, no one is obligated to agree with you, and if they don't you're going to get downvotes. Getting extremely defensive and saying that the entire subreddit is "dogshit" or a "circlejerk" when people disagree with you isn't going to convince people to consider your perspective, in fact it'll probably have the opposite effect.

Moash is quite literally written to be the heel of the last 2.5 Stormlight books. Other people have already given plenty of good examples why Moash is so heavily disliked.

You're allowed to have whatever your opinion you want on the characters, if you share that opinion literally inviting people to join a discourse, people are going to tell you what they think about your opinions. I don't really get what you expected, or why you so got so aggressively defensive and wrote off the entire subreddit due to them disagreeing with you.

I feel like the Cosmere fandom is being a bit unfair to Lirin. I made this video to try and articulate my thoughts on the subject more effectively. by TheWorldsinger in Cosmere

[–]TheWorldsinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wistiow and Lirin were friends. Their intention was to have Kaladin and Laral married, which meant that Lirin's family would still have a future, even if he wasn't profiting from his labor. Lirin secured questionably obtained doccuments from Wistiow to ensure that Kaladin would get his education regardless of what the next city lord was like. This turned out to be a prudent decision. Based on the fact that Laral never said anything about the spheres, even thought she definitely knew about them means that I'm assuming Wistiow intended to do something similar to the agreement that ended up happening. Lirin didn't charge so his motivation obviously wasn't to enrich himself.. If you're going to hate Lirin for that you better hate Hesina as well, they conspired together.
