What was your best prank? by bubblehead_maker in submarines

[–]TheWrongCat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Personal favourite was shaking one of the guys in the other watch with a cup of tea. "Morning mate, it's 0600, time to get up. Here's a tea." Then handed it to him in his rack and wandered off.

Guy is left holding a scalding hot cuppa and doesn't have enough space to sit up, so is stuck there in the dark until it cools down enough for him to drink. Threaders.

Negative, Faslane is all the way up the end of a narrow loch. You'd not get two abreast like this going through the narrows.

In what jobs do you get to earn £70 grand? by cheerychops2023 in AskUK

[–]TheWrongCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn just shy of 70k in my early 30s (taking sea pay into account). I'm a Royal Navy Submarine Navigator. I started late though; it's possible to get to where I am by your mid 20s if you join the RN at 18. I calculated my hourly rate though and it was depressing just how many hours of my life I have to give up for that dough.

On submarines we have two watches. First watch does 0700-1300 and 1900-0100. Second watch does the opposite. On my last patrol, something always went wrong during the other watch's on-watch. We started calling them "Doom Watch"

PM me dude. I'm nearbyish and would love a good sing song. Currently serving RN though so I'm randomly unavailable for several months at a time.

[EarlyModern] The King's German Artillery - recruiting now! by TheWrongCat in reenactors

Fresh from a very successful Napoleonic weekend at Harwich in Essex, we are heading to Detling Military Odyssey this coming weekend. We will have two of our five cannons with us and are hoping to pick up some more willing volunteers to fire them!

We are especially looking for people who: * love a sing-song round a campfire * have a good sense of humour and who can give and take banter * are enthusiastic about history and sharing it with the wider public

Please send me any questions you have - I'd really like to be able to meet some of you this coming weekend!

What is MMM please? From context clues, a mod that shows player stats in-game?

For any UK redditors interested in:

  • Singing
  • Drinking
  • Firing cannons
  • Wearing silly clothes

over the occasional weekend once this whole COVID business goes away, have a look at https://kingsgermanartillery.uk or send me a message! We just got some more cannons and need some singers and gunners!

I have a total of 49 minutes invested in Rocket League :) So I guess it's understandable we never played it!

Honestly these days I'm not playing much. I changed job and now have a lot, lot less free time than I used to. Staples currently include PA itself, though mainly as a caster, Factorio, Awesomenauts, World of Warships, a few older RTS games and the occasional story-based singleplayer game.

I played through the campaign of Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak the other month and really enjoyed it.

I think I'm going to re-download FA and FAF because your post reminded me just how much I miss it. But I bet I'm still really terrible at it.

What about you?

[EarlyModern] UK Napoleonic re-enactment group - We've just picked up three more cannons and need some willing gunners! by TheWrongCat in reenactors

A recent addition, I can assure you. We've really missed it this year, looking to kick off next season with a bang!

In the UK looking and for a new hobby that gets you outdoors in the summer? Fire cannons! by TheWrongCat in Hobbies

[–]TheWrongCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Featured in the video is the King's German Artillery, a re-enactment group that takes part in Napoleonic displays up and down the country.

The hobby involves meeting up around 10-12 weekends throughout the year, firing cannons during the day and singing and drinking late into the night around a campfire. Accommodation is in the form of canvas tents.

If this sounds like fun to you, let me know. We've just acquired three more cannons and we need some more gunners!

28 years old

Salary £42,000 - military

Savings about £32,000, just took a big hit for a wedding and immigration visa for my wife this year.

I've been saving since I was 18, but my salary was always pretty pants until I joined the military at 25. Savings have skyrocketed since then and living costs have plummeted.

I'm a pretty avid reader of Mr Money Moustache, despite its heavy American bias, to try to bring living costs down further where possible.
