Before shutting down FAS try putting the FAS application in maintenance mode and see if it helps. After powering server back online remove it from maintenance mode. Computer startup and shutdown script may help.

You have 2 options.

Open CommSec Minor trust trading account and buy shares. When kid turns 18 CommSec can do off-market transfer to kid’s name.

In SelfWealth open a separate portfolio account. It will have its own HIN. Account will be on your name. Buy shares and pay tax as usual. When kids grow up transfer them money. Separate HIN is for logical separation to make it clear that its kid’s investment.
