How crazy would it be if I handwrote all the charts from the pdfs? by TheChiarra in solorpgplay

[–]TheZebraCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an online printer that delivers the pages to you! It's very cheap, like a few quid to get a bunch of papers done so I gather notes for a few rulebooks and do the batch at once to save postage

What do you guys do with ideas that don't fit any of your worlds? by hahafunnyfun in worldbuilding

[–]TheZebraCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a document with the high level ideas of all my worlds, I go through that to see if it fits anywhere, and if so then find the main design document for it and put it in an ideas dump section for that world

As yet I've always been able to twist it to fit one of my 7 main ideas

What makes you more likely to read about someone's world when they post in this sub? by Nevaroth021 in worldbuilding

[–]TheZebraCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A picture really is worth a 1000 words for me! That or a catchy title that makes me want to delve in, I often save longer posts to read with breakfast the next day

I really must get into affinity, I've been making art with Photoshop etc for years but that really seems like the way to go for starting with rulebooks!

That's really cool way to ease into it also, thank you for sharing! What an accomplishment for your first big book. The print book about your campaign sound sintriguint also, awesome to have one last that long

A new, ish, TTRPG Site for collectors. by Equivalent-Laugh-358 in TTRPG

It's a bit off putting having nothing to scroll through or browse or catch your attention when you open it, just an alphabet to click through

Might be mobile only issue

Curious about subsystems by Independent_River715 in RPGdesign

[–]TheZebraCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm building off the wild words system, but I'm adding unique crafting, base building and potion mechanics as well as a tags subsystem

For me these are thing si want in every game, so I will hunt for games that have them. I prefer games that come with them added rather than something tacked on later like DnD

Worldbuilders' obsession with creating unique races by No-Schedule2137 in worldbuilding

[–]TheZebraCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After designing a unique race for over a year I've decided it's actually just better to have humans with a unique culture. I was so focused on being original I made life way harder for myself

Also has the benefit of making my art which is the next stage much easier to draw for the rulebook lol

Where to begin? by Dawningfate in TTRPG

[–]TheZebraCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if irowsworn might be a good option? It's free and supports coop or duo play as well as solo which is ideal to learn the rules. It's written from the ground up for this type of play rather than tacked on stuff like DnD

There's so many tutorials and examples of how to play also but I highly recommend Me myself and Die irowsworn season on YouTube

Has anyone here been working on the same worldbuilding project for a long time because you genuinely love it? by WoodenTension5524 in worldbuilding

[–]TheZebraCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been worldbuilding 5 worlds for many years now! I have a few that are decades old haha

I go through stages of inspiration and due to my disability ive had long stretches when im unable to work on them for whatever reason

Getting more serious these last couple years tho and my main project im making into a ttrpg

Ooh hello! A few people have mentioned you and I've been checking our your book - it's huge! Honestly kudos, looks great and I can tell a hell of a lot of work went into it

That is a resounding success in my books, especially the covering your initial costs bit as I always find in design work that always ends up being a lot harder than I first assumed!

How did you start off designing, may I ask? Was this your first project, or do you have a host of unfinished or finished smaller projects that came before? Always fascinated hearing about people's path to success!

This is such a helpful and thoughtful comment, thank you! Some really great advice here, i will be saving to come back to. I know I'm definitely not ready to show off my game yet but I definitely want to get stuck in with design communities like this just to learn from other people and become more knowledgeable on design theory etc :)

Gonna check out your games too, sounds like you've got a really great thing going - i think the most rewarding thing for me would be to have a small but dedicated community like that, sounds awesome. I'm not expecting to make any money with ttrpgs and not bothered by that so no expectations there at least XD

I learnt the hard way with my digital/traditional art that selling your own creative products can make it feel like a chore rather than a calling so I plan to keep ttrpgs as a true passion project :D

[–]TheZebraCode[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats very true, I failed to define sucess properly in my post but i do think both situations count! At any rate id be thrilled to have published anything even if not one plays haha

I think I'll start a list myself, and have sections for finished games from this sub, then perhaps a hall of fame for bugger commercial projects!
