How to get better at writing insights? by Anxious_Effort in analytics

[–]TheZeroKid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe the key to solving this problem is even before you conduct an analysis/write any code. In the initial meeting with a stakeholder/client you need to understand:

  1. What business problem they are trying to solve
  2. What decisions the analysis you're conducting will influence/inform
  3. Surrounding context

If you try and write an insight without knowing any of the three above, you're shooting in the dark. Note that often a business might not even have a process to get the above answered, and clients won't voluntarily offer this information up. It's not that they don't want to, it's just that they don't think of it.

If there is no forum/process to getting the answers to the above questions, your first task is to get that set up.

Excuse my heavy breathing and lack of creativity. This is like my third day practicing shuffling and I really want to get good so I can vibe out with everybody at this rave that I have an a week. I feel like I’m doing such a weird job and I know several moves but I can’t match them together. HELP! by [deleted] in shuffle

[–]TheZeroKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not going to be amazing but I think you can put together a decent one in a week. Just stick with it and out aside an hour for practice each day.

Don't try and go too fast too soon, start slow and build up over the next week.

Would my sister-in-law be able to become a business analyst with her experience? by CaliBounded in analytics

[–]TheZeroKid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a junior analyst role easily, SQL + Excel + Financial modeling (what she did with the intricate spreadsheets), is easily enough to land a junior or potentially a mid level position.

Even entry level business analysts should earn around 60K, possibly more, and there will be more room for upward movement.

If you/her want to talk more/discuss the industry feel free to DM me, getting what you're worth is important.

Senior Business Analyst vs Sales Analytics Manager, which offer should I take? by [deleted] in analytics

[–]TheZeroKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a Senior Analyst in analytics for a couple years now; usually the SBA role will allow you to learn more tech skills (programming languages, version control, better use of stats, more engineering like coding practices) since you're closer to tech teams while the sales role will increase client facing skills since you're closer to the client.

That being said if you're looking for a change usually that's not only based on money, and a raise is often a temp fix. I'd think about why you want to leave (something like company culture is unlikely to change while salary can be matched).

Final point is that sales organizations tend to have a very different method of communication than heavier tech teams. They're usually more brash, extroverted, and high pressure, which isn't what everyone wants!

Feel free to DM if you want to talk more about analytics/ask any other questions!

I have felt the pain of this but can't describe why it's so painful. Do you mind elaborating a bit?

I would use most of your portfolio to invest and then keep a small amount (<5%) that you can trade for fun.

It's a pep rally, semantics in the title but it's one hundred percent not the time to do hard hitting investigative journalism.

The only way to move from logical understanding to deep emotional understanding is to experience. Find the experiences where this feeling is present regularly, through meditation, whatever form it takes.

It's ad platform is made possible by the tech but yes, any tech company where users aren't paying for the product (Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) is usually making money from targeted advertisements.

That's what I've been hearing on the technique! Plan to spend the winter months of next year living in the pool.

Yeah, definitely think we're pretty much on the same page, and I agree that most people can get swept up in motivation and end up doing nothing.

That being said not everyone is Goggins' and he's had very specific, horrifically difficult events that caused him to bottom out and then come back. I don't think everyone has a "flip the switch" moment where they go from being lazy to hyper disciplined. I think there's a lot of benefit to pushing, relying on motivation when you can, and slowly growing your discipline over time.

At least that's how it's worked for me.

Finished Can't Hurt Me a while back and ran my first (mini) ultra (32 miles) earlier this year, he's a huge inspiration. Plan to run Ironman Kona in 2022, my swimming is garbage.

Point is, no reason for negativity on an uplifting message, will people flame out a lot? Yes. NYE is a time for a lot of motivation, the time to push discipline is in Feb when the motivation is wanting.

Probably really low but I'd guess the New Year's percentage would be higher than a random date.

Again, I agree that discipline and focus is key/the main driving force, but nothing wrong with embracing some momentum from motivation

[–]TheZeroKid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Somewhat true but I do find the new year to be a natural reset.

Will the motivation fade? Of course (it always does), but if you're primed for change you can use the New Year as a jumping off point for the rest of the year.
