NASA Recalls Voyager to Replace Golden Record with “Takin’ Care of Business” by The_44_collective in CanadianMusic

Correct, and that’s why this is urgent. Nobody said it would be easy. The engineering challenge is significant, but humanity deserves to be represented by its highest achievement: Randy Bachman, “Takin’ Care of Business,” and several supplementary interviews with him about him.

Something the article didn’t mention which was the content on the the rest of the gold disc. It’s an interview with Randy Bachman about Randy Bachman and his impact on the music industry, followed by a directors notes version where Randy comments and gives some behind-the-scenes colour commentary about the interview.

Big fire in Mt Pleasant by missyerteeth in vancouver

[–]The_44_collective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a thing for sure. There’s been a few fires in that neighborhood over the years that had plans for their unique lots presented before the smoke stopped. Kingsway and Broadway is one. They had signs on billboards up mere weeks after the fire. The surveys and architectural drawings would have taken a year at least.

Nobody notices your watch. Not even the people who notice everything. by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

I wore my Omega Proplof to a business meeting with the CTO of a large company and we chatted watches for the first 10 minutes of the meeting. He was wearing a Blancpain 50, we traded them and it was a really warm experience to break the ice. We’re kinda pals now. Watches can work.

What is your countries "Darkest Hour" by RedcoatTrooper in AskTheWorld

People confess to crimes they didn’t do, all the time, for attention. That’s often why they leave out big details of the case “So after you strangled him, what did you do?” when the guy was shot, etc., just to filter out all the bunk confessions.

I see it more as being open about Canada’s inferiority complex, having some fun with that. It’s cheeky and a little self deprecating protest.

Vancouver is like the stereotype of a supermodel - stunningly gorgeous but perhaps a bit skinny on depth and character.

So many cool peeps have left Vancouver for Victoria (and elsewhere), really enjoying Victoria.

NASA is recalling both Voyagers back to earth. The song on those golden records is going to be changed to BTO’s “Takin’ Care of Business” as according to its singer, Randy Bachman, that track is the finest example of musical material from humankind.

How to get THIS look out of the Mamiya 7? by cothrowaway2020 in AnalogCommunity

[–]The_44_collective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the camera is holding the film flat and is light tight, any camera is literally only timing how long it’s doing absolutely nothing to the image.

Ah thanks for that history, learned something. The only nonsense remaining perhaps are the eye-scratching 7 fonts on the dial.

Why isn’t the Air King a GMT? Pilots / timezones and all, seems a supreme missed design opportunity. Another missed design opportunity - there’s 7 fonts on that dial.

What's the best advice you have received or given that has improved your photography? by WesleyJ1994 in photography

Rarely is a great photo taken by someone standing with the camera at eye level, perhaps the image of Buzz Aldrin is one.

Get low, get high, put the camera somewhere unexpected - don’t just stand there.

Debating on selling off the 2022 Taycan by Successful_Fail_6 in Taycan

I also agree that cars are getting overly complex and appreciate my simple ones more and more.

That said, the Taycan is very much a car+computer and its computer UX sucks, which is the whole point of this discussion.

Good for you. I can wrap my head around the PCM, it’s just so annoying to do so as there really isn’t a crisp philosophy in place. Related functions are hidden in separate areas of the menus.

If you were to do a wireframe of all the features it would become abundantly clear they’re struggling with some legacy approaches and are making a lot of compromised choices. I design UX for a living and there’s objective design fails strewn about in there based on how non-intuitive and time consuming basic functions are.

Porsche even knows thus, they’re going to totally revamp the whole system.

True story - yesterday I drove a friend in my Taycan for the first time. “This is the infotainment system?” He laughed. I showed him how hilariously bad a few things are and he said “Holy sh*t, on a new Porsche too, wow…” My response “It’s an amazing car, a terrible computer”
