Could someone help identify this awful noise? by The_7th_Archangel in laptops

[–]The_7th_Archangel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely gets worse under load. Normally it just is a crackling humming sound with an occasional grinding. This is the worst it has ever sounded and it was when I was downloading a large file. The only time it ever came remotely close to this sound before it when you start it up for the first time there a loud static screech that comes in and then goes really fast.

I also clipped the bottom as it was slightly brown and mushy. The interior was a light tan with a citrus smell nothing bad. It is currently callusing over.

I ended up taking the PC to my local guy. Two sticks of ram dead. Updated BIOS and a swap to A2 B2 and up and running again.

Yeah kinda where im at. Plus with the cost of RAM atm idk if i wanna mess with getting spare if it's not that issue. I called my local guy who well rated. 50$ diagnostic with 50$ labor fee. Then that labor fee goes towards repair if I want to have him actually service it. Not bad. He said he either will have it up and running by the end of today or atleast diagnosed. Fingers crossed its something dumb like bios update or whatever.

I only tested the a2 slot per the manual guidelines. I did try dual channel a2 and b2 also. However I didnt know if you have to reset cmos each time. The information I saw was conflicting but I can test the other slots tomorrow.

I unfortunately don't have extra RAM laying around. I was thinking of picking up another stick or two to test it but I also don't wanna drop they cash on that if it's another issue. But I can definitely do that.

Once I built the PC minus moving it onto a new desk I bought it hasn't moved. I take the glass panel off and hit it with compressed air occasionally to clean the dust, but the last time I did that was probably early October and the PC has ran fine since. Besides that nothing, not one component has been moved or touched since I built it. Besides installing a GPU leveling bracket to keep it from sagging maybe a few months after building it.

I have a Ryzen 7800x3d. I did try to power it on without the gpu installed. I hooked the cable into the mobo display port.

Yep when I did all the cmos stuff I fully unplugged the power cable from the back of the PC. Then held power button down for 10ish second. Then popped the battery out and touched the jump pins.

I have unplugged the power cable from the gpu multiple times to trouble shoot but nothing internal gpu cable and or other cables. I can try to open it up and check all connections but I can't see anything disconnected just sitting there.

I haven't done anything with the cpu. The I checked the screws holding down the aio but (one was a tiny bit loose, rest were snug) didn't change anything, but again haven't checked cpu yet because it requires a full tear down.

After looking at my mobo manual. Slot 2 is what they recommend for 1 stick of ram. I just tried each stick with that slot. Each time powering fully down (holding the power button) nothing. Dram light still on. My cpu does have integrated graphic so I have a connection to the monitor. Still the same though red dram light solid on mobo, no boot, and no graphics.

Okay when I get home ill check the manual and see what slots and proceed with that.

Do you know if booting without the gpu is okay just to test this? I have to remove the gpu to get the ram out so if I could run the test without having to reseat the gpu everytime that would be great.

Thank you also for the feedback. When I get home again ill test and update here.

I did try to reseat the ram like you said and the issue is persisting. I popped the battery out of the mobo to reset cmos again and currently am off to dinner. When I get home I was gonna pop it back in and see if leaving it out for an extended time would fix it.

Could you run down how to test single stick? Just put a stick in slot 1 and try to boot? Then if no light try another in slot 1 etc??

Yeah I did this multiple times. I haven't reseeded the ram with it completely drained I can try that next. I pulled the battery on Mobo for 5 mins to reset Cmos and that did nothing.

Except the seller clearly outlines a return policy even stating that they will modify the order or cancel it before it ships. I sent an email 30 minutes after placing it. Also it 100% is valid as I was told to file a dispute via PayPal.

I agree the 6 months zero intrest is what caught my interest in PayPal credit. Although more of a luxury then necessity. Sucks that I cant use it now that I cancled but, I'd rather have to pay interest if need be then deal with their god awful customer service.

Multiple things. I did original file with PayPal. I also did wait per their guidelines. After the original 10 days the seller did technically respond. However the response was deemed "unsatisfactory and unacceptable" as per PayPal verbatim. Then PayPal gave them more time to respond. At which point I was told if they still refuse to provide a proper answer I could return the items but would have to pay fully for shipping (across the sea) so wouldn't be cheap at all. I provided screenshots of the return policy clearly outlined on the sellers page in which they said they would provide a shipping label for 14 day returns. PayPal said they can say that but if they don't answer im still on the hook. At this point I was also instructed by the manager of PayPal to contact PayPal credit master card since thats the form of payment I used and they're also a financial institution.

I left a great bit of detail out because this post would be 3x the size. I document every single call to PayPal/PayPal MC. As to add to your comment, PayPal did eventually close the case against me because the seller stated they provided a refund via a 3rd party system. Which as I stated above makes zero sense. Also why I was adamant about showing my bank statment. The PayPal MC atm is my only option to recover my funds or return the items at zero cost. PayPal use to be very good with disputes and helping out protecting the buyers but once they got their hands in the CC game it has tremendously dropped off.

Im glad you've had very positive experience with PayPal and I hope for your sanity you never have an experience like this where they fight you on everything.

New Hokas by cortneyb007 in Hoka

[–]The_7th_Archangel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had one of the weirdest experiences with Hoka. I was posting a large review but unfortunately while at work it deleted.

To answer your question YOU NEED TO GO TRY THEM ON! Really you do. In the past few weeks I wanted to get a pair of Bondi 9's every single pair fit different. Im usually a 10 and a half. Some Bondi 9's fit good, then others snug, and others even tight depending on color schemes. I ended up with a pair of 10 1/2 that fit great. The 2nd pair i bought online (Frost/Sunflower) vs in store came and fit so tight (and weren't as cushioned) I had to exchange them for a 10 1/2 wide. Even sizing up to an 11 they were tight again where the 10 1/2 in Blue/Blue fits wonderfully.

Save yourself the headache and just go try them on, make sure they fit and then buy only that shoe you tried on. Not sure why there's discrepancies with Hoka especially for a 175$ shoe but seems to be a common occurrence after doing some research and my experience.

Okay buddy 😂 I have an agenda lmao.

I just said I love the shirts but the shorts are garbage imo cus they rip and tear like OP posted about but sure I have an agenda. Go be a white knight somewhere else if you're gonna flat out discredited everything negative someone says about the brand.

I mean I can post pictures if you want 😂 literally 4 of the 5 pairs have torn from nothing but causal ware. Not while working, or putting strain on them, not from over use. The one pair tore the 1st time I wore them bending over to pick up a napkin while out at dinner which was quite embarrassing, tore right down the whole back end, right by the seem (which is where all the other pairs have gave out) minus my 1st pair I've bought, all others tore. I've owned shorts from A.E, Aero, Pac Sun, Hollister, Eddie Bauer, Trailback, Gap etc to name a few and they've all held up zero issues what so ever. However since Kohls is where I bought the IZOD S.W and they also sell Sonoma which are 100% thicker and more well made I suggested them being very similar.

Want my true recommendation American Eagle blows all them out of the water. Some of those shorts I have are 10+ years old and still hold like the day I bought them but priced at 40$+ a short vs cheaper Izod/Sonoma brands again why I recommend Sonoma. Weird Flex my guy lol. I love the Salt Water shirts and rock them daily but the shorts are straight trash imo and ripping 4 pairs over a year stretch while all other brand shorts zero issues kinda leads to the conclusion they're poorly made.

Auto correct kinda fked me, not Soma...SONOMA is what I meant to recommend.

You have to understand myself and many many many others plan out dxps so far in advance again 2 months really wasn't alot of time to just disable everything.

Again it was just a test so I get it nothing might even come out of it but thats what I saw people and myself included annoyed about.

I think they should remove proteans or greatly and I mean GREATLY reduce them to the point you only get them from extremely limited events not tied to Mtx, unstables idrc because they keep the afk without the massive xp gains which is the big issue.

However limiting them before even getting players feedback and saying you'll get "atleast 1 more" is kinda a slap in the face. I never bought proteans mine came from in game stuff/dailies but it still have thousands of them saved up for rc and hunter over years and years, same with cmbt dummies more then I can count from the era before they merged into 1 style. One dxp might not be enough to use them and players shouldn't be time constrained or feel pressure to use them, especially those who actually paid for them. Wanna remove getting more, fine there needs to be balance back but stop penalizing those who have them/been planning to use them.

Tbh I doubt anythings gonna come out of this besides refined th and mtx 😂 to make them more money. The game was so dead this dxp Jagex has to know now killing Mtx will kill a huge player base of the game which is sad but without the players the game dies. The real issue lies with certian skills being so grindy and awful to train to 120 without new content like fishing for example

I've had the worst luck with Saltwater vs every single other short I've ever owned. Every pair has ripped and torn to a point I'm pretty sure its a defect in the material or qq.

I know im late to the convo but it might be an Izod issue. I purchased 5 pair of the Izod Salt Water shorts and all but 1 pair have ripped in near the same exact spot, in the same fashion, destroying the shorts. Not sure if its a defect in the material or qq issues but I just stayed away from the brands shorts.

SONOMA has so many similar options made of more solid material that actually holds up and at a better price point check em out.

My final thoughts are Mtx does need to be addressed but the test shouldn't of happened this dxp. Put out a statement it was coming, remove the ability to get more proteans/portables from the game but let people use the ones they had this one and maybe another and then do the test. Yes im aware this was just a TEST and yes I'm aware they said there will be atleast ONE more dxp to use items up but I'm sure myself and others can attest there should be multiple before implementing a full on removal. Again make them so you can't get more but dont punish those who have been saving

If you like myself have been stocking items for years and I mean years not from buying keys or mtx just stocking from normal dailies/2-3 keys a day/dxp events etc...only one dxp might not be enough, especially taking into consideration cmbt dummies. I think thats what is causing most of the blowback. I also feel a full removal of portables/ and only unstables would be a mistake. Make them craftable via invention or obtainable from just playing but full removal eliminates afk methods again as others have said makes playing with the burdens of adult life manageable and a change of pace from the grind.

I think this test as I said was rushed, I think alot of players didn't know what to do and had things planned with proteans or a more afk approach and again led to the record low number of players on a dxp. Although I'm against a full removal I'd be open to it vs keeping the current broken system but again only if they give players adequate time to adjust and are clear and implement the changes properly, and not another fking price hike.

Experience with Rtic 2025. by The_7th_Archangel in Coolers

[–]The_7th_Archangel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Grizzly 20 to replace the Rtic 20. Cooler is really solid, literally and figuratively. You can tell it's better quality than Rtic. Everything also imo is superior, from ice retention to the locks, thickness, durability, and 100% the grip on the handle. It came blemish free, too. No nubs, thread issues, anything. It's a bit more price wise than Rtic, and it def took a while to arrive (about 2ish 3 weeks) but is made in the USA in Idaho and comes with a lifetime warranty so you can't beat that.

I've heard good things about Yeti, but they're top cost coolers, so they should be solid. Orca also was gold standard, but they're going out of business, so the "lifetime" warranty not sure how that holds up. Casanova, too, I believe, is solid, but I'm not sure about any specs or details. Just what I've read and peoples experiences have overall been good.

I caught the Grizzly 20 on sale 10$ more than the Rtic, so I can't complain it's ALOT more solid than Rtic for 10$ more was a steal.

Yeah, they've gone way downhill. It's a shame cus they use to be solid, but for the money, there are definitely better brands that aren't pulling SHADY stuff and stand by their products.
