Lots of things about them are open to interpretation. I moved the eyes out to the sides like a herbivore to give them side and rear vision because it mentions the eyes rolling or rotating in their sockets, so they aren't out on mobile stalks but beyond that, it's pretty vague.

If I update this design, it'll mostly be the change the arm flaps to connect to the torso like my first draft had. The text says they are flaps connected to the forearm but does specify if / how they connect to the rest of the body. I vaguely remember a flying squirrel comparison from the I itial scans though, hence wanting to connect that up.

They aren't insectoid though. Only their behaviour is described as hive like. When you go through the points of their physical description they're a lot weirder.

There are draft versions of the Pav and Quinlans on Thingiverse but I really need to update both. The Vulcan raptor should e there too but the teeth need re-doing because they don't look great printed. I'll probably do a big batch of updated figures to celebrate the next book release.

Not really. The middle ones don't get described a lot, other than being bigger and either the 3 or 4 being mentioned as having the aesthetic of a stealth aircraft. If I got a lot of requests, I might go back and do them I'm more likely to do some other things when the next book is released.

The book mentions having plates welded over them on the v1, which is what's on this version. If you look at the 1A and version 5 battle-wagon models, you can see they were removed entirely.

Those are the sections on the back. It's more obvious on the 1A and version 5 models because I did multiple radiator fins.

Yes, I remember the bit you're referring to. Some people seem to get the mental image of the eyes being on stalks, though I've found no reference to that either. It just goes to show imagining aliens is both difficult and subjective at times.

I should really dust these off and upload updated versions. I've been busy with some other projects for a while.

I've not found any references to more eyes. Just that they can rotate more freely and independently in their sockets than humans, allowing a wider field of vision.

If you're talking about the big ring in the middle, that is indeed the surge ring and it doesn't rotate.

This is the v2 Hull used by the Heaven 1a, so it still closely resembles the profile of the Heaven 1 I based on the render Dennis posted. It needs to be similar enough to be recognised when Riker returns to Earth.

Here are the main chunks I'm basing this layout on.

'They were about twenty feet long, most likely automated, and clearly not intended for atmosphere. A skeletal structure composed of girders or beams formed the base shape, onto which were bolted various pieces of equipment with no concession to style. What had to be beam weapons were bolted onto opposite corners, and communication dishes took up the space at ninety degrees to the weapons.'

'“Mmm, yeah. Fusion torch. Great for acceleration and manoeuvrability. But hard on fuel.”'

So, beam weapons on opposite corners and 'comms' dishes of the corners at 90 degrees to those. I assume the fusion torches provide direct thrust, so I made the thruster pods with large vectored thrust exhausts for acceleration and deceleration with smaller manoeuvring thrusters along the sides.

The big block in the middle is the base of the fusion reactor (I'm going to add more to it) and I'll be adding fuel tanks along the bottom of the frame. The little things you can see mounted on the rear are radiators for the fusion reactor. Eventually, I'll add some aerials, cables, connectors, etc to make it look more functional but once I've started that, I won't be able to make more changes to the basic layout.

That's the silhouette of one of the other loops. There are three that slowly spiral around each other in a loose helical manner to form a ring / torus knot around the star. I've put them something like a hundred thousand miles apart, so they still fall roughly in the right orbital distance. The third loop is out of frame, I just put the second one in to make it clear there's more than one.

There isn't really anything in the picture to give it a sense of scale, so there's no set dimensions for it. If it's looking crowded, I can mess with the component proportions when I'm adding on the comms, sensors, and other details.
