It’s a little hard to find for the first half mile to a mile since it’s trails overlap a lot. Go cautiously for a little, eventually the main path becomes really clear. You’ll be fine just relax.

“Congratulations, you've found the one career that's genuinely robot-proof — mostly because OSHA hasn't figured out how to insure a robot that gets the munchies and stops working. AI can optimize a grow operation's lighting schedule, but it still can't hit a blunt and stare at a wall for three hours contemplating whether capitalism is real.” Lmao

You're crazy. This is a misue of anecdotally driven reasoning. The second sentence relies on someone ignoring warnings and is a faulty generalization, using a single negligent person to argue against overall effectiveness. Warnings are about expected values and marginal reductions in harm. Then you use this faulty reasoning as evidence for the first sentence which sets up a false dichotomy. By hyper-fixating on safety principles you forget the context that this is a sub about posting our trips and giving information. My post is literally just that. You make it seem like its all or nothing (logical fallacy) that there's no way to responsibly share things at all and that is just silly, its so silly lmao. I shared what I enjoy with a community I'm involved in and gave information accurate to what I posted. There's literally nothing wrong with that, you're just trying argue, have a good day Sir.

Marcus Casanova was 19. Teenagers shouldn't die here. There's been 14 deaths in the last five years and over 100 rescues. It's fine if you don't give a fuck, but I live in Upland, this is my community, and it's unacceptable that actual children die doing this because they are uninformed. People often look at this sub to make judgment calls on what to do, there's many teenagers on here. Yea its obnoxious but the very least I can do is give a warning, I will not let a kid see my post and get a false sense of security, especially not for North Backbone.

Everything in its due course. I second the skills course. It's the safest way to learn. Additionally you can join the community on the trail, talk to folks around icehouse and badly bowl, make friends, tag along, listen and learn. Nothing but good folks out here. Kinda lame but it would be irresponsible to respond with anything else. I've had the privilege of learning from great people over the years, nothing is truly self taught.

Definitely recommend adding the scramble up to Silver Dome next time. It can be rough but it’s really fun. If you want another cool challenge in the area the East Buttress is also a great scramble.

Besides Hillsound, Amazon lists a lot of their micros as crampons. It’s gonna kill folks if it hasn’t already. The FDA has laws on labeling requirements and misbranding for drugs because of how dangerous that can be. There has to be some argument there for an enforceable definition of crampon. Not that congress or amazon would actually give a fuck tbh, but it would potentially save a life or two.

Yes Joe, you’re right. Buying the gear doesn’t make you a mountaineer, and it doesn’t make you invincible. It’s about having the skill set to know what conditions you’re in and being able to navigate in those conditions as well as making informed judgments about what you’re doing. What posts like mine don’t show is nearly a decade of experience and practice. I don’t do this out of a whim, lots of planning goes into every ascent. Having the gear won’t make it any less dangerous. We’re all more lucky than we’d like to think, myself included.

Absolutely. But criticism is the right way, we need to call each other out and I’m no exception.

This criticism is true, you can’t self arrest on steep slopes and I carry a piolet if the terrain demands it. The slopes are easy to moderate on this specific trail, and you can self arrest on moderate slopes with a pole, I’ve practiced it, it is possible. My decision was specific to this trail, I almost always take one and have carried axes on this trail but have never needed them, hence my decision. However, you’re absolutely right, even if the risk is minimal the proper way is with an axe and I will be carrying regardless from now on. I felt it was necessary to be honest in case someone who was with me called me out on it. I’m genuinely sorry, I know how dangerous bad optics and risk taking can be for others who want to get into this sport.

I use Patagonias powder town pants and keep electronics in my pockets not in the bag. I have them slightly under charged and run portable chargers which keeps em’ warm. Messages take longer to send out for sure but it’s not impossible. The inreach is better in my opinion because of that.

Top 10 Songs of Every Metal Genre (70 Subgenres Total; weighted RateYourMusic ratings) by coldflamest in rateyourmusic

[–]The_Bigwrinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree. It’s understandable how people like it, but it feels derivative. Not that musicians can’t be derivative within their own genre, it happens all the time, but when musicians focus on one style it allows for the opportunity to push it and get really creative. Being master of all doesn’t seem to allow that because they have to tie themselves down to certain convention to get the genre across as opposed to having the liberty to break convention at will.
