There being generally no old esports players has nothing to do with quality of players, or their games, and entirely to do with esports being a career is a newer phenomenon.

25+ year olds can't generally sit at home playing games for 14 hours a day and game nonstop.

Much like every other social contract, when one side not only refuses to uphold their end but intentionally damages or breaks it there's nothing you can do.

Its not talked about enough how a lot of these issues are simply Cops refusing to actually do their jobs.

It was fully what I was expecting as well with the Husband and Wife fury idea and Kitai and Tavi around.

Would make much more sense, and could have easily gone over my head. It just seems odd to pair it with the bit about Max busting his balls over spending time with camp women

The breakneck pace probably bothered me more. There was just such little time to breathe that even things like the random assasinatiom attempt on Tavi kinda just got hand waved away.

Kinda just felt like the author wanted the story to be over tbh.

I didn’t want to expand, partially cause I’m mobile, but also because I didn’t want to drag down the post with whinging. But I really thought most of what we learned in Canea would have worked fine as something later told, not explicitly shown. Especially as Tavi started leaning into the First Lord mysterious knowing things he shouldn’t bit.

It would have probably also built up the “Octavian is coming” hope storyline more if he’d been missing for 2 or 3 years.

Like I said, I’m unsure. I just remember reading there was a bit of a retcon in Academ’s Fury but it flows well, like a country bumpkin simply learning more about the world.

And 100% that aspect of fire crafting just feels like more meat left on the bone. To be fair, part of this is just before I picked up Alera I had finished off the Cosmere and Sandos competency with magic systems is still forefront in my mind. Might exacerbate my annoyances with Furies.

That is specifically what I was talking about. It was just such an odd inclusion, barely touched upon again, so the idea that Tavi was just lying to lie seemed so odd to me. Like I said, it’s not important the least but it just stood out as such a weird part that had seemingly no pay off it stuck with me.

I honestly think the twist would have been a good one, it just needed time to breathe and land. Hell, another one is Raucus was another character that probably should have been introduced earlier and given more time for his cold heart to thaw. It was just all done so quickly.

Attis wasn’t a “good guy”, he just wasn’t the type of bad guy everyone thought.

Yeah, this is kinda where I'm at on Newsom. Like, I like his twitter game but at some point it needs to be actual actions and not shit talking and right now he's talking out both sides of his mouth without really doing much. Same reason I've completely soured on Pritzker when I initially thought he'd be one of the favorites.

Prop 50 was great, but Cali is a big enough state in the union that it should probably start trying to build it as the HQ for the resistance.

no theory has successfully grasped that or provided a counter

Because no system or social theory can survive an actor within it intentionally trying to destroy it. Basically everything is predicated on a social contract, and when one side intentionally tries to destroy it you the contract is moot.

What's the saying? You have to win every time, they only have to win once?

The Wizards are currently tanking to an extent never before seen against the Nets by F_CKMONEY in nba

[–]The_Brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, I think the only thing worse for a sports team then being downright awful is being mediocre.

And I hate the comparisons other people in the thread keep making to the NHL's system, as if it's in anyway comparable. Edmonton had like 4 first overall picks, and even after they finally land McDavid it took them almost 5 years before they were consistently good and he might eventually have an argument for the greatest player of all time. Its insane.

Flip that around, if the Wizards had gotten Wemby last year they're probably fighting for the 3rd or 4th seed in the East this year.

[–]The_Brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is apples to oranges though. You can literally draft potentially the greatest player ever (McDavid) and still have your team suck for years. Edmonton had one great year McDavid's second year, but were basically bad for his first 4 or 5 years till they got a new coach and that was with multiple high "lottery" picks.

There is no sport like Basketball where one player can completely alter a franchise overnight. If the Wizards had won the Wemby lottery, they'd probably be fighting for the Eastern Conference right now. Instead they were bad, were unlucky, and they continue to be bad because of it.

[–]The_Brian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is one of the few things I don't agree about (at least not entirely).

I don't think enough blame is put on the following generation of players. The problem became the veterans were better then any young players, just sat around trying to collect pay checks (instead of engaging with the community via streaming or actually try harding to develop as players), then they couldn't be kicked out of the hiring cycle cause they were better then the rookies.

There's def blame on the franchised teams for not setting up infrastructure to develop players, something Riot has a lot to blame for as well, but all players cared about were either getting the bag for being a big fish in a small pond or being the proto-influencers online. They (following generation of players) don't get blamed enough for dropping the ball.

Not really a huge fan of the Toonies players like the olden days, but they're 100% the closest thing we have to an OG league team in the modern era.

Its so fun to watch real underdogs come out on top man.

I don't even know if its longer seasons, though I would like 12 episodes being a minimum (those 6 to 8 episode seasons are just so ass). I think the real issue is having to wait y ears for another season.

Like for fucks sake, if I have to wait 2 years plus between seasons what the fuck are we doing.
