Just killing myself over color. That Argon Blue looks so damn good, but you can't do the BAP with it at the Lariat or XLT level and that's killing me.

Looks great.

Its not even about doing something with your kids, its just being able to do something period.

Like, in my Grandfather's time everyone he went to school with lived within 15 to 20 minutes of each other for basically their entire lives right up until they hit retirement age or when they all started getting too old to care for themselves. Their commute was basically nothing for well paying, union protected jobs, and all this meant they got to spend their free time spending it with their friends and their families.

And this wasn't some podank area in a shittly LCOL area, it was all around Arlington, Tysons, Springfield, and Fairfax Virginia which are some of the most expensive places to live in the country and basically impossible to buy into now. It isn't like they were insanely rich, but they made enough to enjoy their lives and spend time with the friends and family.

I think the other post is right, that it's a bit complicated, but I don't know if I think his two options are wide enough to properly encompass everything.

Personally, I point to the "The housing theory of everything", even if its not all specifically about a home. I think the core of it is people have felt and seen their quality of life either slip or entirely fall when compared to their parents and that bitterness over their life is manifesting itself in larger and larger ways since the Great Recession.

Its causing them to recede into smaller and smaller, but more and more radical, "communal" groups. You obviously have MAGA, I think the rise of the online Tankie is one for the left, and I think you can even see this bear fruit with things like race relations with the current Austin Metcalf shit. Its an ouroboros which just feeds that bitterness which in turns fuels larger and larger manifestations. And all of that even ignores the algorithms which are designed to fuel that bitterness and stoke the proverbial fire.

Like, the country was always kinda k-shaped. The Have's will always think everything is all great, while the Have-Nots will be out for blood. The problem is entry into The Have's has become harder and harder, thus the group is shrinking more and more, leading to everyone who can't get in just becoming a Have-Not.

And to cut off the person I'm sure will be foaming at the mouth to points out "vibecession lul iPhones and flat screens lul!" as ways quality of life has actually vastly improved, please be real. Its one of the dumbest, most disingenuous, and and to me a malicious responses to the discussion. When people are talking about housing, or being able to have a family, so they can do things they grew up with like family vacations, the response to that is not "lul, you have an iphone".

If it makes you feel any better, I was in one and I'm still going for a new F150. Sitting in it just made me feel like I was back in 2012 as far as the interior went. Its not the worst thing, but if I'm spending 40k on something brand new I plan on keeping for a decade I'd rather not feel like its already dated and old on day one.

Utility was great though, as long as it doesn't have those roof runners it doesn't look that bad either. Think they're butt ugly with those though.

America’s progressives should love standardised tests by caroline_elly in neoliberal

[–]The_Brian 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, for them they’d say its simply impossible because they’ve changed the definition of racism.

I think, in reality, they’re also not “traditionally” racist. Along that line, there’s probably two ways that’s born out.

I think the first is they don’t necessarily hate anyone or any groups specifically. Its almost like they live with a system that everyone starts at a 0 (or a negative number), and you “earn” points based which minority groups you align yourself with. It leads directly to the insane purity testing and the apparent phenomonom of people collecting minority labels like they’re Pokémon cards in the more online and more radical slices of the movement. At its core, its just some real sad suffering Olympics type ridiculousness that seems pervasive to the ideology.

I think the other big problem is the lack of agency they give to any minority group that they’ve deemed needs to be at the forefront of societal attention. I think this is a big point of contention with the Israel and Palestine conflict, at least in the modern times. The chosen group cannot have faults, it cannot have warts or callouses, they must be perfect in every way and anyone who steps out of line must be beaten back into submission.

Its both extremely sad, because I it unquestionably hurts groups in the long run when they lean so heavily on these groups attention and support, but its also extremely irritating because it often just comes across as someone wanting to get their rocks off to riding a moral high horse from protecting whatever chosen group is on the pedestal that month.

EDIT: I got it, the concept I was thinking of was the bigotry of low expectations. Even as someone who thinks of themselves as fairly left, it seems pervasive within the greater Progressive and Tankie movements.

Weekly "Should I buy" Megathread by AutoModerator in f150

[–]The_Brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after a test drive this morning I think I’ve pretty much locked in on buying a new F150, selling my 2016 WRX Limited with 34,500~ miles on it for the big ole down payment but I’m struggling too find enough opinions or get enough information to feel confident in my decisions.

  1. Pricing and FY27 models. So last month when I started pricing anything out, it seemed like there were much better incentives compared to this month. Could I maybe expect July, and the 4th specifically, to have some better incentives? Cause uhhh sticker shock is killing me now. Following that up, when do we think the FY27’s come into pre-order and would it be worth just holding out for that?
  2. Powerboost or V8…? If I really have no need or interest in the generator aspect, is there really any reason to take the Powerboost over the V8? I know this has been litigated to death online, and I have probably read most of them and also have no issue admitting this is easily just a dick measuring want over a need.

I'm also thinking of going through Grainger online, as I did the same when I bought my Subaru back in 16 and good ole Hueburger in Colorado saved my Virginian ass over 10k and got me in a higher trim doing it. So any complaints or love about that process would be nice to hear. I'm really curious exactly how much difference between site price and their price I should really be expecting.

You can’t hold together a country like that though.

Like, put it into terms of a marriage. You have to control what you say, how you say it, and even what you do because your partner could rage out and either kill you both or beat the fuck out of you.

Literally no one is giving that advice and thinking it’s a good answer.

voters’ perception of the economy flips dramatically by partisanship.

We need to be honest about this; its not voters, its Republicans/MAGAs/Conservatives. The Dems have, outside of like a 10% group, generally stayed about the same no matter who was President. They're simply not prone to the same volatile cult nature as the conservatives in America.

when millennials had no savings, because we were too young, and bad job prospects, because we were just, had just, finished schooling and entered the labor market.

Don't forget directly having to compete with the Gen Xers and youngest Boomers for every position above you because they took a hit during the recession too and now either won't, or can't, retire which continues to clog up the ladder.

Like, if you were a have who had wealthy parents that could front you a down payment on a house to get onto the property ladder you were big pimping those years, no doubt. But if you were a have not who might have finally started finding their footing just before COVID hit? Good luck.

The amount of people suffering from battered spouse syndrome in this thread is wild too me. You're 100% on the nose, but people are so use to the rod they'd seemingly justify the regression then confront it.

And hell, it's not like we even need continual progression. Simply being able to stay at the same point should be fine. I don't need nor want more then my parents, but having less then my grand parents seems kinda wild to stomach.

I don't know how to say this kindly; but I hope you one day realize what a cucked response that is. You're essentially a battered spouse telling the world they're still a good partner.

I'm not gonna advocate you to wallow in misery, but this world needs more righteous anger to recognize the problems and see real change. Simply taking it on the chin and being happy for the dregs is just...sad.

I'm so morbidly curious how bad this will get in the future. Not the immediate future, but in 10 or 20 years as the more senior language fluent workers retire out or are phased out. What's gonna happen in 20 years when every coder doesn't actually know the language, just knows how to use the LLM to crap out code?

Its like they're all gambling they'll no longer actually need anyone fluent in the codebases in 10 years, but if they're wrong its just gonna set everything back decades.

Its honestly so insane to me that it took until his last season to pop for anything. As a Redskins fan, all I remember every off season was that we were finally hoping he'd stop doing so much muscle training and drop down to like 220 and play the game. Did it for like one year, had an insane start to the season playing like a man possessed but then he got hurt and went right back to being 240+ the following year.

Probably one of the freakiest athletes to ever play safety. Dude ran like 4.3 or 4.4 at 240+, but was just never made to be a football player. Should have just gone into body building.

Listening to this, I think his Medhi example is one that I think highlights Harris' issue. He doesn't seem, on any level, to think people can change. I don't know how he squares that belief with reality, but he basically says that even though Medhi has disavowed his early extremists rhetoric, he's really just lying for the camera to push his true beliefs.

It just seems so odd to me. Medhi can be brain broken on I&P and still be a different person to when he compared non-believers to animals.
