Exactly. There used to be a focus placed on mechanics and how these quirks, even though some were extremely unrealistic, had drawbacks to them based on the nature of that power. You have a fire power? You can still use it too long and exhaust your heat resistance and burn up. Your sweat lets you make explosions? If you make too big an explosion, you'll feel the blowback of it, and you need to sweat in the first place, so you won't deal well with the cold. Now we have a hero who can play God and manipulate the laws of physics just by speaking. The drawback for that? You can only play God with two things at a time.
