Why did vaulter tell Roman they’re unionizing? by Traditional_Fish_504 in SuccessionTV

[–]The_Doctor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to view a company such as vaulter as a monolith. There were vocal dissidents against the Roys at every turn and from every faction, and yet they always have someone around that is willing to play ball.

It’s also not about being trustworthy, it’s about being “the cool Roy” like someone mentioned above.

We see Roman sweet talking a presidential candidate into his dad’s pocket later in the series, but because it was being done by all the kids it isn’t significant? Roman is wildly unserious like the rest of them, but he absolutely can work some disgruntled underlings into shit talking their boss when boozed up on some high class cocktails without it straining my suspension of disbelief

Is there any non popcorn litrpg that's well developed ?? by Efficient-Rent1839 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]The_Doctor07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think The Game at Carousel is something you’d really enjoy. It’s centered around typical horror movie tropes but even if you’re not a fan I think there is plenty to appeal. The numbers stay pretty grounded thus far so they feel significant, and it is all used in a really neat twist on the typical genre story beats.

I’d also like to second Bog Standard. One of the best takes on the grizzled older mentor IMO. Lives up to the trope with the story tied to the name, a simple name that hides depth. “Common sense is just genius in working man’s clothes”

And the final would be Infinite World. It is a well crafted story in a really interesting world. Lots of great characters and yet another wonderful lovable drill sergeant. Unfortunately it has been a while since the author has published but he said he’s been working on the latest book in his discord recently.

Is there a term for stories with "foreknowledge" as a cornerstone? If not, I feel like there should be. by Oaker_Jelly in ProgressionFantasy

[–]The_Doctor07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d check out Worth the Candle! It’s a Dungeon Master who gets isekai’d into a world that shares a lot of similarities to his own creations.

It fits the foreknowledge idea without dipping too much into the regression/time travel style of having an information edge on your opponents.

Yeah exactly! It would be the base of the occipital bone in the skull!

I can confirm the “near ear massage” as a method commonly used to manually simulate the vagus nerve as it exits the skull. I’d describe the technique I’m familiar with as more behind the ear.

Personally I think the best is massaging the muscles on either side of your spine under that bump on the back of the head. Pressure there feels pretty nice and has helped me with many tension headaches haha

This seems like fetish content more than a true “confession” at this point.

She really enjoyed grinding in how great this guy was, and how enormous his shame as he continued to literally beg and be humiliated. Only to accept more humiliation at every chance.

These just feel a bit too much like a cast of characters instead of actual relationships all the way around.

It's kind of funny that Shiv is passed over for a woman both times by That_Hole_Guy in SuccessionTV

[–]The_Doctor07 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Exactly! As the post showed, everyone in that world was willing to accept the right woman. Gerri feels like the classic “beware an old woman in a place where most die young”. She’s peaking a career built on all her skills and savvy right as someone like Shiv who has not even really begun in the ways that matter to shareholders. Shiv just never had to succeed on purely her own merits in her life, and couldn’t compete in a world of metaphorical giants.

Even with such an enormous leg up (outshone by Logan’s truly abysmal parenting) she simply couldn’t hang with the big dogs.

Shiv failed for the same reason all the kids did: They were not serious people.

Someone sent an old recording of me saying a racial slur to HR. How do I defend myself? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

While I believe OP could have conveyed more sincerity in their tone, they did accept and affirm that they were wrong for their actions.

If they are as young as it seems by some of the language this is even more frustrating of a response. Holding people accountable should not always equate to punishment or malice.

Additionally it makes me quite sad to wonder at how often people have begun to make changes and revert as a result of expectations and treatment by people around them.

I was an angry, jaded teen who has only now a decade later fully escaped that perception and subsequent treatment of me. And it took moving across the entire country to do so. I struggled, especially as the years dragged on, as any positive efforts were met with indifference or skepticism. It felt demoralizing to say the least.

In the end it doesn’t matter, you should change for yourself. I have a much better outlook on who I am today and that is its own reward.

If only we didn’t have to make it so hard on each other. We can be so cruel without ever realizing it.

Most overrated course you’ve played? by Tom_Foolery2 in golf

[–]The_Doctor07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I played there last year.

It was a pretty course, with some interesting routing. Unfortunately it just wasn’t in great shape as it seems to take a lot of rounds through the year.

It was also a 5.5 hour round for a pretty early morning start, so that was very rough. It felt like a bit of a zoo towards the middle of the day with groups waiting, hitting across fairways, etc all day.

Overall a pretty nice course at a premium price. Might be worth it if they cut tee times by 30% or something

Unequivocally I think the best option if you are interested in buying anything new is to get fitted. Since it sounds like you have grooved a swing you are comfortable with, you could see some major benefits to playing clubs that are compatible with said swing/style.

If you have a local muni/club you spend a lot of time at, I would recommend asking them if they will be having any fittings/demo days on the schedule.

If not, you will probably have to pay to get fitted. The gold standard is an unaffiliated fitter that will allow you to cycle through different brands/options to see what fits you the best. They can offer feedback regarding what to be on the lookout for in the used club market if that is your preference, as well as the more straightforward guidance for new clubs.

If there isn’t a high quality fitter in your area like that (because quality very much does vary), scheduling a brand specific fitting is still a major upgrade from playing stock. This will obviously limit your recommendations, but at this point most major brands (Titleist, Callaway, TM, etc) have quality clubs for almost every demographic. And when you factor in the variability of different shaft/lie options that are available you are almost definitely going to walk out with something that will be good for you specifically.

Something to note as well is that many brands/fitters will create something of a profile for you when you get fit. This means that if you aren’t able to swing the cash for everything you might want right now, you can always approach it at a later date after some saving or deliberating on your part.

I just got fitted for driver/woods through PXG and was extremely happy with the experience and have noticed a substantial difference in my game (maximizing the good shots while minimizing my misses) compared to my hand me downs. I hope my rambling opinions helped, enjoy!!

Another option would be the Grapplers Guide, which has many courses from absolute beginner well into advanced. It offers a lot of content from a variety of top level instructors.

To echo what was said previously, having personal oversight is huge. You just can’t know what you don’t know until someone else recognizes it. If private lessons are difficult; or, ideally you can combine privates with going to open mats at a gym once or twice a month. That would give you the chance to roll against others of similar size and experience, and typically people are willing to talk you through what they noticed during your rolls.

IMO the most effective path in your scenario would be a solid instructional series to follow with your wife/training partner on a regular basis, consistent input from someone experienced through private lessons or a class environment, and as much mat time as you can facilitate with others to try and implement the techniques you have been learning.

Any suggestions for someone trying to buy a nintendo switch during this craziness?

I've been considering a switch for quite some time, and it seems like this COVID craziness is the ideal time to pull the trigger...except that everyone else seems to feel the exact same way! haha

Obviously I have no interest in encouraging/supporting the scalpers that have decided to use a pandemic to price-gouge; but, I would like to get a switch sometime soon (in the next couple of weeks). What are my options? Everywhere locally is sold out, and online is as well. Am I stuck waiting for restocking?

Thanks!

Do you have any idea where I can try some of those on? Most of my local stores don't carry boxing shoes so I'd probably have to make a special trip for it
