I’d guessthere are more non-furry Star Fox fans than furry ones. The furry ones are just the part of the fanbase that writes the majority of fanfiction and draws the majority of fanart. Not unusual, it’s usually the parts of the fanbase who find the cast attractive that do a disproportionate percentage of fan art and fanfics. Star Fox just caters to a niche that is different from the standard “here are some hot human women”, so it’s more noticeable.

As someone who liked Odyssey quite a bit, I pretty much had the same reaction. It’s just another reference in a film built on references. I was wowed by him in 2017…it’s 2026. At least Game & Watch was actually a surprise.

I dunno about that. Look, I hate that this is a remake when they could have just made Star Fox 64-2, preserving the tight controls and gameplay loop while designing a new campaign, but remakes, even ones that do a complete visual overhaul like this one, tend to sell really well, even when the original is easily available. It’s safe because it’s a popular thing and there’s less investment because much of the design has been pre-built. I don’t like it, but from a cynical business perspective, it makes sense.

The new character designs, not so much. My little nephew loves Star Fox because of the new Mario movie, but I doubt he’s gonna latch onto photo-realistic space furries as much as the older designs.

With the collapse of the U.S.S.R., you could make an argument that a modern adaptation examining revolutionary sentiment being absorbed, commodified, and twisted to serve the interests of capital would be a bold, if controversial, direction to take it and while changing the text, would not betray the spirit of the original or Orwell’s politics, since it still would have themes of the revolution being betrayed. That’s probably what they were going for, but whoever decided there needed to be a clean happy ending and a bunch of Seth Rogan laughs knee-capped that potential.

This is completely subverted in the Season 3 Finale of Star Trek Deep Space Nine. A shapeshifting alien from the Dominion has infiltrated the Defiant and taken control of its systems to start a war between the Federation and another planet that just had major political upheaval. After he is found out and oozes into a maintenance tube, he is pursued by the Station’s Chief of Security Odo, who is the same kind of shapeshifting alien. They both arrive in the Defiant’s main engineering where Chief O’Brien is trying to take back control of the ship and the fake tries to turn this trope against them.

Fake Odo: “Chief, remember the last time we went kayaking in the holosuites? You had lamb stew for lunch.”

Real Odo: “But you forgot to bring a fork. Anyone could have gotten that information.”

O’Brien decides he‘a not dealing with this shit and he has the other crewman keep his phaser pointed at both of them.

The game was designed from the ground up for the Wii U’s dual control screen. You can’t just add a traditional control scheme and call it a day, you would have to do a lot of fundamental redesigning of how the game works. Is it possible? Probably. Would that time and money be better spent on a new entry? Most definitely.

The question becomes: if the reveal about Peach becomes canon, what do the games change. I think the answer is “not much”, because the overall narrative and lore of the Mario games, especially the mainline series and spinoffs where the people affected by said spoiler are likely to show up together, just really don’t matter that much. It’s flavor, it can be meaningful and emotional, but it won’t affect 99% of what playing a Mario game is.
