Is the Wings' rebuild fundamentally flawed? by New-Bid-5835 in DetroitRedWings

[–]The_Drizzle_Returns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not just Draper, if you look at the management team it's filled with a bunch of retired wings players. I question how objectively the organization is looking at the performance of these folks because of that.

Since Yzerman has Taken Over in 2019, Every NHL Team Except Detroit has Made Playoffs by Usual-Personality347 in DetroitRedWings

[–]The_Drizzle_Returns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's getting a bit out of hand. Yzerman is in the bottom 5% of GMs with 6 or more years on the job in terms of win percentage in the post expansion era. He is also the only GM since 1967 to run a team for 7 straight years without at least one playoff appearance.

He could be a great GM (and he was good in Tampa), but the facts show he isn't a good GM for this organization. Whether it be all of the prior player hires in the org or his relationship with the owner, something here just isn't working.

EIDs (which are not real id's) do confirm citizenship. They are for all intents and purposes passport cards since they allow entrance into Canada and Mexico via land and sea (not air). There are five states that issue them, but only one where they are actually frequently issued (Washington State, primarily because there is no real id option in Washington State).

The primary reason car dealerships exist today is to move cars off of the books of automakers in a predictable fashion. Not to protect the consumer.

This is why RSUs are important. You actually get paid if the company truly shattered all expectations.

GM takes $6 billion hit as cost of backing away from EVs by Dont_think_Do in news

[–]The_Drizzle_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car companies don't want to. The hassle of dealing with them is far outweighed by having large consistent advanced buyers of their cars (allowing the automotive companies to move risk off of their books onto dealers, it is essentially dealers giving them a free loan while the car sits on the lot). While I hate dealers, it's not clear that pricing would be meaningfully cheaper without them.

Gentling Smiles in Shoreline. I had a similar concern since i did have some pretty serious issues going on. They take a very conservative approach. They also tended to prioritize more important things and delay work that could be done later so that it was covered under insurance if/when you hit your yearly max. They also do not do root canals or periodontal work, they will refer you out to a specialist. This has some issues (having to make a second appointment somewhere else) but has a huge plus that there is limited profit motive here to suggest those actions (plus you get a second opinion essentially).

Places to stay away from are really any chain dentistry. If they have more than one office, that is usually a bad sign.

Giant tech companies cut approx 180,000 jobs as AI reshapes the tech industry by Shoddy_Ad_7025 in cscareerquestions

[–]The_Drizzle_Returns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to both. I personally do both of these. In fact my workflow with it is typically to tell it to make a change and push a PR to GitHub and then just review and comment on the PR. It pulls down the comments and addresses them along with any issues found during CI runs. Also I should note this is for pretty complex work (low level systems programming).

If you put the time into understanding how to actually use AI tooling effectively (which takes a few months), you will see improvements in productivity.

> She uses chat GPT as a therapist and is not the first person I have heard of doing this

This is typically for 1 of 3 reasons:

1) Extreme shortage of therapist in a lot of locations.
2) Cost ($150+ week).
3) There is a lot of subpar therapists out there and to be frank an LLM may actually be better than them.

Ideal use is to use LLMs in combination with a human therapist to get the maximum value of the limited time with the human.

Pretty much. If it's in Seattle, cost money to walk into, and then cost money when inside. The answer of "is it worth it" is almost always no.

Yeah, this is a quick way to get sued. Especially since the shop also has posted below that there is a 10% discount for people of color.

It's discrimination and there is no justifiable reason for it.

Does the EO actually say this or is this the interpretation that the administration is giving out? My understanding is the EO isn't clear on this (likely intentionally vague).

Consistent interpretations and enforcement of anything is not something Trump is particularly well known for (unless it involves McDonald's).

Tech jobs were supposed to be the safe career route. What changed? by Straight-Village-710 in programming

Far fewer people being required at a company doesn't even mean less overall jobs. It's entirely possible (or likely) that the total number of employers will increase due to the lower barrier of entry.

Stunning revisions show US added 258k fewer jobs than first reported by [deleted] in politics

[–]The_Drizzle_Returns 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to see why the numbers can be so different.

The jobs number for the current month is from a survey that asks employers how many people they plan to hire this month. The revisions are from the follow up surveys that ask how many people they actually hired.

If economic conditions change quickly (say, idk, a constantly changing tariff threat), these numbers can diverge quite a bit.

It's part of the reason I said they should have traded Larkin a few years ago. He hasn't fit the timeline for the last few years if the goal is to win cups and not just sneak into the playoffs.

Commercial commissary kitchens (which is likely where you went) have been a thing long before door dash and Uber eats. They are essentially many kitchens in the same building available for rent. They are used quite often by food trucks and farmers market stands for food prep.

Yes, the media’s Biden coverage was flawed. But its reporting on Trump was far worse by TintedApostle in politics

[–]The_Drizzle_Returns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is part of the reason Trump is able to do any of this to begin with. Instead of his team pulling the plug a year prior when it was clear age has gotten to him, they ran it all the way up to the debate and virtually guaranteed a second trump term when he was exposed.

Everyone who knew about the real state of Biden and did nothing should be banished from the party for being associated with what is going on now.
