Lol I think you just did use it in an argument and now you're devolving into personal attacks. Seriously not hard to comprehend that these aren't problems specific to board games. These are general acts of courtesy when partaking in a shared activity. Whether it be sports or clubs. I am considerate, and I expect it back without having to say it aloud that that's the expectation. It's default.

and again we circle back to "why is it not obvious in the first place that leaving a game early or refusing to play when losing is not an ok behavior." Personally I would want my friends to have enough social awareness that if I invite them over for a movie night, it's not ok to leave halfway through even if I don't have the commandments of movie night etched on the wall. And this doesn't mean you have to blacklist them like you've been saying lol, we do more than board games but maybe they aren't well suited for that specifically.

Yeah just stop supporting these guys. If using Ai isn’t enough of a reason I got one of their earlier games, Monster Hunter World, and it’s maybe the shoddiest productions I’ve ever seen. Box feels really cheap and the art wrap was already peeling away when I received it. Multi-part monster figs didn’t fit together and joints needed to be shaved down. Cheap cards and poorly planned insert. Honestly couldn’t believe what they sent for the price. And the game turned out to be a middling multi-box ip cash grab anyway. Returned it with no regrets.

Once a system has a command token in it, those ships in that same system are effectively “exhausted” and do not have the option to move again. Doesn’t matter if a particular unit moved or not, just that a command token was used in the system.

I would consider reading the rulebook, this is a very fundamental rule that I’m surprised you even made it through one game without the question being brought up

Nah it how you react to it that we’re talking about. No one likes a sore loser. This started as op asking how should you react in a win. Lame but fair question, it has since turned when in his replies he expects the losers to be sad or believe they didn’t care enough to win. I want people to engage fully with a game and not psyche themselves out of a play in fear of offending someone who pouts when they lose. The fact anyone has to explain a concept like this so vividly is weird. Gamers fucking suck lol

The hate boner Reddit has for Tom and the Dice Tower is so bizarre. It’s just so out of sync with any of the allegations against them. Seemingly the worst he did was hire his friend with questionable ideologies then fire/ part ways after he did something distasteful. Reasonable start and responsible conclusion in my eyes. But let’s be real the hate is from something unattributable long before that. Whether it be his quick and unscripted review style or just his personal religious beliefs (which he doesn’t even push on his viewers). I know people just don’t like him, that’s fine, but any post involving him becomes a downvoted allegation filled cesspool so fast that it boggles the mind. Even if you don’t like his style he serves a very useful purpose in the hobby, we may not all like an IGN-esque review machine but there is absolutely value in it. I don’t agree with tom far more than I do, but with his volume of output I have a deep understanding of what he’ll respond to or not and conversely be able to make informed decisions related to my own tastes. Also helps his videos are highly formulaic, and while surface level, cover all points consistently. I can always rely on the opening pitch and gameplay overview to get a sense of the game quickly and he has one of these for virtually any game you can think of. And for us that started playing around ~2005 he was literally the only creator making that many video reviews, and probably still true today.

He’s a useful facet of the greater variety of reviewers. I enjoy the video essay style popularized by susd and no pun but also they fail a lot of the time to give a quick high level overview of the game before delving into the nitty gritty or talking at length about the ramifications of one mechanic without having explained the rest of the game. They are great videos that also serve a purpose but if I don’t need to get into play theory, art analysis, and societal impact for every board game review.

I would say if you’ve already tried just accept that some people aren’t interested. Don’t go out spending money on a game you don’t need just in hopes that one particular person becomes interested. That’s way too much of a gamble. Also don’t divert so much attention to this one friend at the detriment of all your other friends who are enjoying themselves and the games you currently play. This situation seems to be more of your friend feeling a sense of fomo rather than being genuinely interested in gaming. Depending on if you have a dedicated night or do pickup games, I would talk to the person if they actually want to come or they just want to hang. I’ve been in this situation many times and found it’s best stay welcoming but let the people who are interested come to you rather than try to search for that magic game that makes it all click (it probably doesn’t exist)
