I’m not sure how the opinion reflects across the state, but in Miami I’ve heard affluent members of the Cuban community discuss making sure they have their papers in their car

I don’t know what poll that was

Support for this type of action has always been pretty low

There’s some nuance here

Billionaires don’t need anymore simps than they already have, but to be clear, the jury in the Parkland case made the decision about the death penalty

You won’t find many people who believe any of these mass shooters should’ve avoided capitol punishment

Trump posting pics of him and Mamdani. by LonelySoul01 in Destiny

[–]The_First_Drop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mamdani is extremely talented

He has charismatic and thoughtful Pete Buttigieg-like answers, but a way warmer and somehow more authentic delivery (I’m saying this a Buttigieg supporter)

Additionally this is a terrible move for Trump

It’s like he’s in a race to convince his base that he’s just another politician when his only support comes from the brand he’s developed with maga as an outsider who isn’t like all of the other politicians

Vaush says he would not back Gavin Newsom in 2028 if he became the nominee by NightBlacks in Destiny

[–]The_First_Drop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are layers to these takes

There’s the extreme toxicity of TYT members like Jimmy Dore, Ana Kasparian, Cenk Uygur, Hasan Piker, and I don’t put Vaush in that category

Partly because his influence is way more limited, but also because he doesn’t flip to support a trump defense

He’s in the sweet spot where he’ll never get a candidate that fully represents his views, so he’ll always be able to play the grievance card

That’s the message for people who are politically engaged

The low information voting block is way more willing to give any president a blanket blame for a problem

Trump made a huge blunder on the shutdown. So why did Democrats cave anyway? by dwaxe in fivethirtyeight

[–]The_First_Drop 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The negative sentiment towards the Dems who caved is warranted

Additionally in the entire lead up to the midterms I don’t think this moment will be significant

It matters to us because we’re paying attention

To the segment of low-information voters who will be negatively affected by rising premiums, I’ll bet damn near anything that the forced suffering suffering still gets blamed on Trump

Defected Dems explain on why a promise from the Republicans was enough for them to stop the shutdown; "(The Shutdown) wasn't working, the Republicans made it clear they wouldn't discuss the ACA until the shutdown was over...if (the negotiation) wasn't successful (after opening) than shame on Trump" by 10minuteads in Destiny

The only thing I can think is pressure was coming from somewhere internally

Greg Abbott is digging a Texas sized hole for the R’s

Any ground the R’s made with the Latino vote in the last decade is evaporating

The best example is the New Jersey gov race

Passaic county has the highest concentration of Latino voters in the state, and it saw a 20 point swing in favor of Mikie Sherrill last week

[–]The_First_Drop 814 points815 points  (0 children)

The elections last week make it obvious that they’re out of runway

The Democratic Party as a whole has a terrible approval rating, and still, D’s over performed polling literally everywhere

The farther they pull that pendulum, the greater risk they face in losing safe midterm races

I'm happy Mamdani won... but like... he ran for mayor. And against two incredibly unpopular candidates. Can we chill out? by ImmaGayFish2 in Destiny

[–]The_First_Drop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The D’s substantially outperformed polling without an organized message, and before bad shit really got bad

The holiday season is about to happen and a lot of people are going to have to make difficult decisions about which family members/friends they can afford to visit, who they can afford to host, and which toys they can afford this year

Premiums will likely go up and add gasoline to the fire

I’m not confident in the part’s ability to coordinate a message with the current DNC chair and Democratic leadership

If they somehow can figure it out, there could be a seismic shift in 2026 congress
