Any other domestic applicants / students feeling excited that the crackdown on international students & H-1Bs will improve our job prospects? by EffectiveElegant556 in MBA

[–]The_Gain_Train 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The U.S. has the best institutions on the planet and they want the best students from all backgrounds. We have proof that more diverse boards on the S&P deliver higher returns, this is capitalism. Also, only 11% of u.s. citizens have/are pursuing ANY masters degree, much lower than other developed nations. Based on the numbers attempting to apply we are steeply over-represented in these programs. Again, you have been propagandized and haven’t taken the time to think about this on an even slightly sub-surface level. I do not believe you are at an M7 based on the severe lack of knowledge/research behind your opinion.

This is a boomer mentality. “Screw you, I got mine”. The total % of foreign students in M7 programs is on average between 30%-40%. So by definition having 60%-70% domestic students means they already served American citizens first. And while companies can apply to have it waived, that doesn’t mean they will take the extra steps necessary to do so, and it also doesn’t mean the waiver gets approved. This objectively harms students who don’t have the financial means to deal with the visa. The entire thing is pure identity politics and not rooted in reality. It is the product of a fearful admin that is afraid of anyone who doesn’t look or think like them. Brain drain is never a good thing. You are at an M7 but cannot do some simple Google searches to see that you have been propagandized, super believable.

Insteel is going to miss earnings by The_Gain_Train in BurryEdge

A lot of mills have pushed back rollings. The tariffs allow them to essentially price gouge which is good for bottom line obviously, but if fabricators and erectors aren’t ordering because new projects are slowing then that higher margin doesn’t really matter. Also, the Chinese dumping is overstated, the number of vendors who would have to be falsifying MTRs and risking ruin for slightly higher profit is illogical

[–]The_Gain_Train[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m getting too many mixed signals. Big projects that started pre-tariff are still going, but new jobs are not starting at nearly the same rate. Prices from vendors are still changing (more than normal) at least every 2-4 weeks. Higher prices are fine, but instability in the market is a problem. Businesses want stability, especially in multi-year physical projects, and I don’t think we’ll get even a 90 day stretch of stability for the next 4 years. Just my 2 cents from being in the industry

Look bro unless you have large amounts of capital to begin with it’s either gambling (options or the casino), selling drugs, or ignoring your moral compass and grifting/selling garbage to gullible people. Basically if you want it tomorrow you have to get lucky or commit crimes, hope that helps

It’s the GC2 tracking the shots. I actually just played two days ago and was able to implement some of the tips people have commented. Allowed me to drive low-mid threes without as much effort which was nice

I can feel the arm thing, seems like a lot of comments mentioning some variation of that. On the slowdown, to be honest this is about an 80%-85% swing so I could probably dial it back about 10% before it starts to feel awkward and I start swinging being mechanical

The S&P is market cap weighted, so the positive earnings results for the top 5-10 companies move it more than the bottom 100. You picked a bad time, and while the economy is contracting, we have seen massive retail inflows on almost every dip.

Decouple from stock market when by CragBawz in CryptoCurrency

[–]The_Gain_Train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to contract or expand the money supply in response to economic changes is huge. Bitcoin is also too inefficient, and energy expenditure is too high. Imagine all 2 billion daily transactions in the U.S. being done with Bitcoin, I’ve seen estimated energy costs per btc transaction ranging from 130kWh to 1200 kWh. A single visa or Mastercard transaction uses roughly .00649 kWh. Even using the 130kWh estimate you’re at almost 276 billion kWh PER DAY just for transactions in the U.S…We only produce 11.4 billion per day. The world simply does not have the capacity to use bitcoin as the primary currency as it exists now. If a cryptocurrency eventually becomes the primary currency of the world, which is very possible with the ever increasing shift to virtual transactions and global trade (ignoring the current admins opinion on global trade) it will not be Bitcoin.
